Clean and Simple Stitched Valentine

A few months ago I made a big Papertrey Ink order and in it was a set called Daily Designs.  This is such a great versatile set ... perfect for a beginner as it has lots of small images that could be used for all the holidays and occasions - spring, father's day, easter, baby, halloween, birthday, winter, and valentines day, plus some general images like leaves and birds.

For this card, I used this great stitched heart image in various PTI shades of pinks and red.

A little bit of pure poppy Itty Bitty Dots designer paper (Papertrey Ink) and voila!  A great Valentine!

Glad you could drop by my little corner of the www

Valentine Collage

While at my local scrapbooking store, I was trying really hard to just buy the necessities ... but couldn't help picking up a package of Echo Park paper - Victoria Garderns by Cassandra Cooper.  It is so beautiful and perfect for making Valentine cards!  I made this card a while ago (it went to my mom for Valentine's day) but haven't had a chance to load it up yet.

Such a different style for me.

The only stamping on this card is the sentiment from Beyond Basic Borders (Papertrey Ink).  That stamp was an element on one back side of a page, I just cut it out using my deco scissors to become a stamp!  The larger flower was from the sticker page.  The heart-shaped doily was from one of my former Secret Sisters (thanks Linda!).

So fun to play around with such lovely papers!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Made this adorable card for a swap I am in over at SCS.  This image was from Debra - perfect for Valentine's day.  These lovely Tilda's always give my copic's a good workout.  Problem is that i have few to choose from!!  Sentiments are from Wishing You ... and Gracious Vases (both Papertrey Ink).

Off to post on SCS now!  Have a great day with lots of hugs and kisses!!

Valentine project Recap

This week at Crafty Creations Challenges #154 the challenge is to make anything but a card.  I had plans to do that but work has been keeping me away from my computer.  So, I offer up an old project I did many years ago as inspiration.  I made this box back in 2008.  White the idea of making a heart shaped box sounds intimidating, it is rather easy... you just need good liquid adhesive!

And there is a tutorial on SCS right now!!

Hope this inspires you!  Head over to Crafty Creations Challenges and link up your project!

Crafty Creations Challenge #153 - Valentine

This week's challenge at Crafty Creations Challenge is to create a Valentine Themed card or project.  We are being sponsored by Whiff of Joy this week so play along ... you might win a prize!!

Here is my card...

The papers come from one of my past Secret Sisters (thanks Linda).  I saw a lovely die in this shape, so in true Donelda fashion, I created my own out of cardstock.  The images and sentiment are from Papertrey Ink.

Now off to see what everyone else created from the Design Team playing along this week:

Thanks for visiting.  Enjoy making a Valentine themed project.  Don't forget to link it up at Crafty Creations Challenges for a chance to win!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Red and Pink Only

So Susan's latest One Layer Challenge #74 (a nice even number) is to create a card with red and pink ONLY.  That means no black for the sentiment or outlines.  I've got to admit I thought and thought and thought about what I was going to do.  Then I decided to do this:

I cut out a heart as a mask, stamped the word LOVE (Paper Trey from Papertrey Ink) in red in the bottome right edge of the heart.  Then I continued to add the same word repeatedly using pink ink.  While the difference is not so obvious in this poor quality picture, it stands out better in real life! Sigh!! To make sure the heart shape stood out, I did a little bit of sponging with the pink around the edges of the heart.

Off to post and see what everyone else did with pink and red only.
Thanks for dropping by,

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) 70 - Red and White

So, Susan posted the One Layer Wednesday Challenge #70  - Red and White!  It would make sense for this to be a holiday challenge but that was not required ... so I did this ...

Essentially it is a one layer card since there is no extra layer on top of the card!!  The sentiment is stamped ona  white piece of cardstock adhered to the inside of the card.  I almost stamped it in black ... which would have been a 'no no' according to the challenge!!  LOL!!

But in my effort to use up my scraps better, I took the heart and made this card which does have black and a second layer ...

There, valentine cards completed for my boys!!  :-)

Hope you are having a good weekend!

Valentines

Eeek, how did the days leading up to Valentine's get away from me.  I guess it is because we were really busy.  Anyway, here are a bunch of valentines I created.  Almost all of them use images and elements that come from my scrap bins!!
This squirrel image is from smARTworks.

This growing plant is also from smARTworks. And see the hearts on the brown piece of cardstock, they are embossed with clear embossing powder.

This grid card was tons of fun to create.  The heart image is an old one from Stampin' Up!  I had stamped off about a hundred of them a number of years ago so I decided to use a bunch up.  Cut 9 out and sponged around the edges with tea dye distress ink.  then I adhered them to 9 squares of white cardstock that were stamped with text using more tea dye distress ink.

This next card was also a scrap card... I used up this cardboard heart shape that I had stamped up last year!  Added a few strips of brown cardstocks and did a bit of faux stitching.  I think you could use this card for either a masculine or a feminine card.

This next card was lots of fun to make.  The sponged piece was also sitting in my scrap bin waiting to be used.  It had been created using a t!m holtz mask.  I simply added the sentiment, white silk ribbon, and glitter butterfly.

I love this very Clean and Simple card!  Just colored the crayon image with red watercolor pencil crayons and then, using a real red crayon, wrote on my sentiment!!

The main panel on this last card was something I created a few years ago, a decorated paper bag - and now I am "repurposing" it for a card. I strategically cut the branches and words to fit a card front, added some brown cardstock along the top and bottom as well as some lovely brown ribbon. Added it all to a card base and, voila, new life!!

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!!

Love Tag

I bet I made this tag more than 2 years ago!  It has sat, unused, in my bin of scrap items.  It has been patient!!  And finally, it belongs to a card which will likely get used this Valentines day.  (Note that I have edited the photo again, the original I had here was too yellow and the true colors were hard to see, this is much better.  Thank you for being patient with my lighting issues!)

The tag was made by stamping the branches and leaves (branch from Take a Bough and leaves from Beautiful Blooms - both Papertrey Ink) and then embossing them with clear embossing powder.  Then, the tag was sponged with Broken China ink (Ranger).  The hearts were cut from red cardstock and a small highlight of white added with my gel pen (Signo).  The Love sentiment is from Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink) and popped up with dimensionals.

The tag was added to the card by adhering the 3 strips of color (green, brown, and red) directly onto the card.  Then the tag was added with dimensions.  A bit of doodling around the edge of the card finishes it off.

Enjoy.

Boy Valentine Cards x 2

That's right, I've been creating masculine cards for the last few weeks. And masculine cards mean big guys and little guys. When I bought this stamp set by Recollections (Michaels), I realized that one of the monsters had a "heart tail". that made me realize I could use these cute guys for valentine cards. I went to town!! I colored the monsters with my alcohol markers (Copic). I also used this new cuttlebug embossing folder (Distressed Stripes) - bought it purposefully becuase it was "masculine". I hand drew the speech bubble on the right, like Kristina Werner likes to do. Supplies - Stamps - Monsters (Recollections), Everyday Flexible Phrases (Stampin' Up!, retired); Paper - Whisper White, Kraft, Green Galore (Stampin' Up!); Ink - black; Other - alcohol markers (Copic), hemp, dimensionals, embossing folder (Cuttlebug), corner rounder, black marker. Thanks for dropping in to my little blogging world. I hope you are enjoyed my masculine valentine cards. Donelda

More Valentine cards (many are masculine)

So I made a whole bunch of Valentine cards!! I tried making a bunch of 'masculine' ones keeping it pretty clean and simple and using masculine images, papers, and enbellishments! I'm not sure how the layout will go on my post...I'll try leaving a few comments about each and hopefully it all lines up! This awesome squirrel is from smARTworks from the latest Cookie Plate called Vintage Variety! In order to get your hands on one you need to gather smART Bucks!! Pinks and oranges with a bit of green!! See that bit of vellum under the main image.
Funky heart!! The colors are Twinkling H2Os on watercolor paper. Martha Stewart heart punch. sentiment is from Paper Tray (Papertrey Ink)
Perfect Pear... love this pear image (sorry Susan, but I do!!) and how the rock n' roll technique works for it! This one is for my hubby.
totally masculine!! love the staples that are crossed to be "kisses" but using metal makes it kinda masculine....right??? I am totally in love with this color combo!!
about a month ago I created a bunch of backgrounds by putting strips of scrap together! This one looks great as a valentine!!
a little pretty heart card using Life (Papertrey Ink). Another great color combo!! and look at that "triangle" of black!!
This was a fun card to make. Love the sentiment I created on the inside "honey bunny"!!
I couldn't wait to make this card when I recieved this image. It comes from smARTworks' set Fun Stuff. I knew it would be a perfect valentine for a fisherman!!
a real masculine card. Corregated cardboard cut into a heart and staples made into a "kiss" plus a small piece of great scratchy paper!!
another masculine card. another corregated heart. This piece of designer paper has been in my scrap pile forever. it is some old Au Chocolate paper from SU! that I dragged my Mellow Moss ink pad over to color in the design!
Last but not least, some great wrinkly paper and a bit of silver wire!! Clean and simple and masculine!!
I hope you enjoyed everything and maybe got some inspiration. I have 2 more little boy cards to share tomorrow!!
Enjoy!

KLSNS Challenge #15 - Sketch

The gals over at KL Stampin N Scrapin have posted this awesome sketch to use as a challenge. I kinda swayed a bit from the basics here but the general layout follows the basics of the sketch.
This is actually a magnet and I am planning on sending it to my mom for a valentine gift with her card. I cut the square, scallop square, and circle using my Nestabilities. The rest is all bits and pieces put together!! I think it turned out pretty good and I am considering making a few more for myself and some other friends/relatives!
Supplies: Stamps - Background Basics: Text Style, Beyond Basic Borders, Limitless Labels (all Papertrey Ink); Ink - Walnut Ink (Ranger) Pure Poppy (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Brown (Bazzil), Very Vanilla (Stampin' Up!), Green (scrap, unknown); Other-butterfly punch (Martha Stewart), various Nestabilities (Spellbinders), button (Papertrey Ink), twine (Stampin' Up!), brown marker, decorative scissors (Provocraft).
Hope you have a great day! Thanks for dropping by my little corner of blogland!!

More smART Word GLITTER cards

When I picked the smART Word GLITTER for the month of February, I knew that it would be fun to make Valentine cards. Here are a few more cards I created this month.
This background is created with clear embossed hearts (Plant Love, smARTworks). The white heart is stamped with another petal from the Petal Power set (smARTworks), twice to make a heart. I added some Stardust Stickles (Ranger) for some bling. I also added a strip of double sided tape along the bottom and sprinkled some red glitter.
This next card is an ultra clean and simple card. I took this soft silver cardstock, cut it to a 3x3 card and cut a Lables 1 (Spellbinders) die from the card. Then, I stamped the striped petal from Petal Power set (smARTworks) and added pink and silver glitter to alternating strips. I cut it out and added it to the card with a dimensional.
This last card is made with yet another petal from the Petal Power set (smARTworks). This just happens to be one of my favorite petals with all this beautiful swirls in it!! I think it makes a great heart!! I added some more Stardust Stickles (Ranger) .... I love it, can you tell. I even added a bit more around the edge of the brown square. Isn't pink and brown a lovely color combo??!!!
SDo you love glitter as much as I do??!!! :o) Let see it on your GLITTER cards. Link it to Mr. Linky over on the smART Word Challenge.

Masculine Love You card

Here is a masculine valentine I made. I spent the last few weeks trying really hard to create as many as I could. This one is very clean and simple. I used a strip of background paper that was left over from a whole bunch of older projects. I used this circle image from the Swirly Gigs smARTworks stamp set and bleach. I did some sewing along both sides and adhered it to some light cardboard. I then cut a heart out of corregated cardboard that is sponged with some blue ink. A simple sentiment and, voila, a simple, clean and simple card.
Thanks for dropping in to my blog. I hope you have a great day!

February smART Word Challenge - Glitter!!!

This month on the smART Word Challenge blog it is my turn to pick the Word. What did I pick...well, GLITTER, of course!! I picked glitter because it could be used for Valentine cards but if you were done all your valentine cards, or don't make any, you could always make a birthday or any other occasion card. Any card looks great with GLITTER, right!! I actually made a whole bunch of cards. You see, once I pull out the glitter, I like to make as many cards as possible!! Here are just 2 of the cards that I made. I'll post the rest later in the month!! Keep an eye out for them!!
This first card was lots of fun to make. I started out making the actual heart. I took one of the petals from the smARTworks Petal Power set. Then I colored them in with my red pencil color (Prisma) and blended with odorless thinner. Next, I took these awesome Grundgeboard (Ranger) wings and painted them white. When the paint was still wet, I sprinkled some dazzling diamond glitter (Stampin' Up!). Yum, yum, yum!! Then, I used some designer paper (BasicGrey) and adhered red glue strip around the edge and sprinkled on red glitter. I used the word 'love' from the Birdhouse Trio set (smARTworks).
This next card is actually the first card I created. I started out by stamping the largest outline petal from Petal Power (smARTworks) twice onto some scratch white paper. Then, I made a mask so I could stamp inside the heart. I took some flowers (FL18 - Shorties, smARTworks) and some words (Piggy Dreams) and randomly stamped them inside being sure the do some 'stamping off' for depth. Then I added some Stardust Stickles (Ranger) for that yummy glittery goodness. I also used the stripe and dot lines from the Petal Power set to create the strip that is adhered along the bottom. The small sentiment is from Lock and Key (smARTworks). Both the heart and the strip are distressed with Antique Linen (Ranger) distress ink.
So come and play along!! Pull out your glitter and create something fun. Link your card up to the Mr. Linky on the smART Word Challenge. Remember, you can use any products you have on hand but if you do use smART rubber on your entries you will earn a smART Buck ... very cool!!
See you over at the challenge.

KLSNS Jan. Challenge - pink and black

(note: my clean and simple challenge card is posted just under this one -- I posted it late last night -- so make sure you scroll down to see it!!) The challenge over on KL Stampin N Scrapin is to use pink, black, and a neutral color. I couldn't resist!!!
I had made this striped background a while ago while I was trying to use up some scraps. I knew it would work perfectly. I colored in this image (sent to me by a friend) with my Prisma pencilcrayons and blended with some odorless thinner. With the addition of my Copics, I'd forgotten how much I enjoy doing this technique!!
You can see that I have added some Star Dust Stickles (Ranger) to her wings. They are so sparkly in real life!! For now I have left a sentiment off this card. I will add one just under her arm when I decide what I want it to say :o)
So, what pink and black project are you planning on creating??!!!
Thanks for dropping in!!
