Happy Father's Day - TV

I thought this TV image would be perfect for a father's day card.

Simply coloured it in, added the sentiment, attached it to a leftover background.  That black (not brown as it looks in the photo) woodgrain paper must be from a friend ... but darned if I can remember who!!

Enjoy your day!

Big Birthday Wishes

This week's CAS-ual Friday Challenge #43 is to make the sentiment the focal point ....

I think this qualifies ....

You all know how much I love to use up my scraps.  And lately, these banners for sentiments is a passion of mine ... the larger the better!!  And this is the first time I've inked up this BIG sentiment from Papertrey Ink  (Think Big Favorites #7).  I like the dot on the 'i' ... it started out as a Metallic Decor (Hero Arts) and silver ... but I painted it with my gold marker.

With a sentiment this big ... who needs other stuff on the card, it can stand alone!!  LOL!!

Thanks for dropping by,

Colour Q Challenge #112 - Quilt

This week's Colour Q challenge #112 is made up of such delicious colours!  Yum!!

I decided I wanted to make a home-made quilt look.  Took 1" squares, cut them down by hand so that they were not really straight, and did some faux stitching around each square.  Then, I poked holes and used thread to create real stitches to attach them to the card front.

Close up of the real stitching.

Took this photo at night in my light box.  It still makes a ton of difference shooting in the day time vs. night!  I need to remember to take my photos before the light goes away!

Thanks for visiting!

Play Date Cafe challenge #105 - You Did It!

Here are the yummy colours of the latest Play Date Cafe challenge #105.  I just couldn't resist

And came up with this.  I am really getting into these wide banner shaped elements on my cards these days.  You can see another one on THIS card.

Well, I seem to be on a roll with the challenges today.  This is my third post today.  Scroll down to see my other 2 challenge cards.

Creating with Scraps - Day 6

Here is the next installment of the cards I created using my scraps and a few other items and tools I packed up to take camping.

A while back I purchased a package of Stampbord becuase they looked like a lot of fun.  And they are ... I just find that they are heavy on cards.  I think they are better suited for alterable items like boxes, etc.  After the purchase, I created this scene on one of the 2" blocks.  It was stamped and colored using a paint brush and ink and just sitting in my scrap bin waiting to be used.  I added it to a few Lable 1 dies (smaller than an A2 card making it more firm to hold the Stampbord) which were in my scrap bin.  The button and ribbon were also sitting there waiting to be used.  Love it when it all just comes together so easily!!

This piece of scrap is a more recent addition to my pile.  It is a leftover from the invitations I made for my nephew and his lovely new wife this past September.  All that waws required was a small ribbon and dimensionals to add it to a vanila card base.  Another easy peasy card!!

This card ended up being one of my favorites.  It started with the 2 flowers that had been stamped onto watercolor paper ... years and years ago.  I cut them out leaving a small amount of white around the images.  Then I glued some brown seed beads (another small cheat!) onto the centers.  I adhered them to the card with dimensional tape and tucked the sentiment, from my scrap stash, to the pale yellow card base.  Before doing all of this, I did add some flourishes to the card base in just the right places using Versamark (which unfortunately makes it difficult to see in the photo).  This is likely one of my all time favorite color combos!

So even this card base is a leftover from a failed project!  Those butterflies had been stamped on and were not colored when I started out with this project.  I added some pink color using a paint brush (which I had thankfully included in my stash).  And see that frame ... I created it back when I was scrapbooking ... probably about 6 years ago!  The little flower is a bit newer.  I tried making one of those rolled  flowers that are popping up everywhere on blogs.  This one turned out okay but I never got around to actually using it, until now.

So a few pretty little cards to add to my growing pile.  Drop back in on Monday if you wnat to see more scrap cards.

Creating with Scraps - Day 1

Okay, best laid plans never seem to work.  You know how I had planned to take my crafting supplies with me camping and create a whole bunch of things ... well, that just didn't happen.  We were too busy.  So, I decided to see what I could create anyway with the same supplies ... but just at home.

I pulled out the supplies I had packed and swore that I would use nothing but what was there.  Man, was it hard not to grab something that was in my stash but I resisted (except for a few times)!  In the end, I created a ton of cards - 29 in total plus one bookmark!!!  Of course, there were still enough card bases to create 18 more cards and other scraps to create about 10 times that many cards!

Here are a few of the photos of the frenzie mid-create:

Look at all those bits and pieces.  What fun I had!!!  I could have been creating for hours
and hours and hours ... wait ... I did create for hours!!!

Here is one of the creations I made.

It was the very first card I created.  The flower image has been 'hanging around' for about ever! and the butter fly was alos one I have had in my scrap bin for a long time.  I had added some of that thin ribbon to the stash and it came in very handy.  I really like the result of this Clean and Simple (CAS) card.
Stay tuned for the rest that I will be posting in the coming days.

Using Scraps

Hi all!   Today I have a card made from many scraps that I have had for a very, very long time.  If you have been around my blog much you willl know that I like to challenge myself to use up scraps every once in a while.  This is one of those cards.

See those blue flowers ... they were punched out waaaaay back when I used to take a Stampin' Up! class.  And the grass bottom too.  They have been just sitting there in my scrap bin for a few years so I decided to finally do something with them.

I kinda like the white panel popped up on the white card base.  and the white eyelets (also something I've had for a long time but never use) really add some interest and dimension.

Hope you all have a great day!

Masculine Scraps?

Here is another card using up some bits of scrap I've been holding on to for a while.  See those flower "things" there ... they were cut our of some old patterned paper.  They look all rustic and cowboyish .. which is why I can't help but feel like this could be a masculine card even though they look like flowers.  What do you all think???

The 'flowers' were added to the black strip of paper using black brads.  Some natural hemp was tied around one end and then the whole thing was popped up on the kraft cardstock with dimensionals.  A simple sentiment (Birthday Basics, Papertrey Ink) was the only stamping on this simple card.

Oh and sorry about the weird color ... I tried to fix it but couldn't quiet get it to look normal!  Just invision the right color hue and what not!!!

Have a great day.  Thanks for dropping in for a visit!!

Valentines

Eeek, how did the days leading up to Valentine's get away from me.  I guess it is because we were really busy.  Anyway, here are a bunch of valentines I created.  Almost all of them use images and elements that come from my scrap bins!!
This squirrel image is from smARTworks.

This growing plant is also from smARTworks. And see the hearts on the brown piece of cardstock, they are embossed with clear embossing powder.

This grid card was tons of fun to create.  The heart image is an old one from Stampin' Up!  I had stamped off about a hundred of them a number of years ago so I decided to use a bunch up.  Cut 9 out and sponged around the edges with tea dye distress ink.  then I adhered them to 9 squares of white cardstock that were stamped with text using more tea dye distress ink.

This next card was also a scrap card... I used up this cardboard heart shape that I had stamped up last year!  Added a few strips of brown cardstocks and did a bit of faux stitching.  I think you could use this card for either a masculine or a feminine card.

This next card was lots of fun to make.  The sponged piece was also sitting in my scrap bin waiting to be used.  It had been created using a t!m holtz mask.  I simply added the sentiment, white silk ribbon, and glitter butterfly.

I love this very Clean and Simple card!  Just colored the crayon image with red watercolor pencil crayons and then, using a real red crayon, wrote on my sentiment!!

The main panel on this last card was something I created a few years ago, a decorated paper bag - and now I am "repurposing" it for a card. I strategically cut the branches and words to fit a card front, added some brown cardstock along the top and bottom as well as some lovely brown ribbon. Added it all to a card base and, voila, new life!!

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!!

Linda's Challenge #2

Hello and welcome to Linda and my 2nd challenge to use the same image to create a card.  You can see the results of our first challenge HERE

Today's card uses this awesome lighthouse image from Cornish Heritage Farms (sadly it is retired and this company is no longer!!)

To create the card I started out making that interesting background with scrap pieces of designer paper.  I then used my Labels 2 (Nestabilities) to cut it out.  Then, I stamped the lighthouse image and cut it out with an oval die (Nestabilities) and colored it in using my inks and a watercolor brush.   Some crochet yarn and a small sentiment tag (Mixed Messages, Papertrey Ink) and this clean and simple card is finished!

This style that I used is quite a bit different than Linda's typical beauties!!  I can't wait to pop over to Linda's blog and see what she did with this image

Thanks for dropping in.

Wishing you the best

ETA - don't forget to drop back in on Saturday to see what image Linda and I decided to use for our second challenge!!

I love how this card turned out!  It was a card designed to use up
some scrap pieces that have been hanging around my craft space for a while now.  I had stamped those pink flowers (With Sympathy - Papertrey Ink) a while ago - cool how they create a cluster when stamped in a circle (got that idea from Betsy Veldman).  The leaves were also hanging around from a former project gone astray.  I adhered them to the long tag I tied the satin ribbon (Berry Sorbet - Papertrey Ink) in a hole I had punched at the other end.  A simple sentiment was added (Wishing You ... - Papertrey Ink) in Chocolate chip ink.   I added that to some lovely pink designer paper (Porcelain collection - BasicGrey).  I adhered some more Kraft cardstock along the top edge with a small strip of Chocolate Chip (SU!).  To make a pink visual triangle, I added 3 buttons that match the Berry Sorbet color perfectly.  They came from my general stash of buttons.  Some white floss (DCM) finished them off nicely.  The top of the Kraft piece was rounded and then the whole focal piece was attached to a white card base with dimensionals.

I love this color combo and I am sure to use it again!  And I am proud to be 3 scraps less!!!

Thanks for dropping in.  Thanks to those who take the time to leave comments.  I love to read them and they always make me feel good!!

Have a great day!

Spread Your Purple Wings

I have one package of 8x8 Memory Box paper (aerial) ... and I love it ... I hoard it (snort, like you didn't know that).

So, as I try to use up my "scraps" I realized that I have a bunch of small strips of this memory box paper that I can't throw away (it's a sickness!).  So, I decided to use it to create an interesting border along the bottom of this card. I also used a piece to cut the scallop border along the bottom of the solid piece of dp.

The bird is stamped with Lavender ink (SU!) and comes from the old Carte Postale stamp set. It is actually stamped onto another piece of this Memory Box paper ... makes the whole card go together well!!   The sentiment is from Birds of a Feather set (Papertrey Ink).

Okay, so tell the truth ... do you suffer from this sickness as well???  Can you not bare to throw away the tiniest piece of designer paper????   LOL!!! !

Love Tag

I bet I made this tag more than 2 years ago!  It has sat, unused, in my bin of scrap items.  It has been patient!!  And finally, it belongs to a card which will likely get used this Valentines day.  (Note that I have edited the photo again, the original I had here was too yellow and the true colors were hard to see, this is much better.  Thank you for being patient with my lighting issues!)

The tag was made by stamping the branches and leaves (branch from Take a Bough and leaves from Beautiful Blooms - both Papertrey Ink) and then embossing them with clear embossing powder.  Then, the tag was sponged with Broken China ink (Ranger).  The hearts were cut from red cardstock and a small highlight of white added with my gel pen (Signo).  The Love sentiment is from Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink) and popped up with dimensionals.

The tag was added to the card by adhering the 3 strips of color (green, brown, and red) directly onto the card.  Then the tag was added with dimensions.  A bit of doodling around the edge of the card finishes it off.

Enjoy.

More Kissing Birdies

Yesterday I posted the card I made for the Clean and Simple challenge #100 over on SCS.  When I was trying out the 'kissing technique' I had actually made 5 birds.  The one you saw yesterday and then these 4 more.  Since my New Year's resolution is to use up stuff I decided to take the 4 additional birds and actually make cards with them (instead of dumping them into my 'stuff' bucket to sit for years waiting to be used).  My favorite is the Aqua Mist bird on the woodgrain panel.  All of the bits and pieces are scraps that have been sitting in my 'stuff' buckets!  That lined green frame is actually a digital element and the pink banner is from my former Secret Sister.   A pretty good start on my resolutions!

They are all pretty Clean and Simple and could have worked for the challenge.  Which one do you like best???

Thanks for dropping in.  Have a great day!  Today is my last day before heading back to work so I am planning on spending a lot of it in my craft room!  (Edited to read - guess my son has different plans, turns out we are going swimming, shopping, and then sledding!!!  Yikes, I'm going to be exhausted by tonight!)

Good Luck Trees and Circles

When making cards, I try to create a few cards for a specific occasion so I have a few on hand.  A few days ago, I had shown you a farwell card.  When I made it, I had also made this card. It is a more masculine good bye card.

This card started out with that small circle.  It is actually a left over piece of copper embossing that I had used for an old project.  I had created a circle of copper embossing punched out a 1&1/4" circle, then realized I needed a 1" circle.  The left over was this great copper circle with some crackles in it.  I couldn't bare to throw it away!!

I found a farewell sentiment that would fit inside the circle (from Mixed Messages, Papertrey - a must have set!) and started pulling the card together.

I kept the card masculine and rustic.  Lots of sweing and sponging.  Trees always work for guy cards (Tree Cluster small from Stampscapes).

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!  I can't wait for today to be over and to enjoy my leisurely weekend!

Misted Frame

I purchased a package of Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels) and I wanted to play around with them.  This particular color of blue - electric blue -  is so beautiful (the color is a bit washed out in this photo).

I also am continueing to "use what I have" and while I was poking aorund in one of my craft drawers I found a bag full of pieces from one of those old Stampin' Up! sets where you pop out all the die cut shapes to create a mini album of some sort ... do you remember those??  Well, I have a ton of pieces in this bag so I decided to try using at least one piece up.  I took the frame and misted it with the glimmer mist.  Then, I stamped it randomly with this demask image (Demask Designs, Papertrey Ink).  I looked through my sentiments to see if there was one that would fit in the smaller opening and the birthday sentiment from Demask Designs fit perfectly!!  I laid the frame where I wanted it on the card and then stamped the sentiment (love clear stamps!).  Then I added dimensionals to the frame and adhered it back onto the card.  The butterfly was a little guy I've had in my scrap bin for a while, so I sprayed him with a little pink glimmer mist - viva pink - and added him to the card.

I am slowly but surely working through all my scrap bins!!

Thanks for dropping into my little scrappy world!  Enjoy your day.

Elephant Parade

I continue on my quest to use up stuff from my scrap bins.  These elephants were punched out of some watercolor paper I had 'painted' with some reinkers.  Before punching out the elephants, I sprayed the paper with some water that had Perfect Pearls (Ranger) in it.  It gives the elephants a funky shimmer (see the smaller close up!).
I added some starbursts (Martha Stewart) punches cut in half like a scallop border.  Very different and I like it!  The sentiment is from this year's anniversary set from Papertrey Ink called Round and Round , I really like the fonts used in the sentiments.  The background paper is BasicGrey (Phoebe collection).

The elephant punch and the Basic Grey paper were given to me in a swap by my Secret Sister, Banu.  Isn't she the best??!!

Have a great day!

Apple Cards

I love Betsy Veldman's work and while I tend to be a more clean and simple (cas) stamper than she is, she still inspires me in many ways.  A while ago she posted THIS awesome apple card on her blog.  I knew instantly that I would have to re-create a similar card but simplify it a bit.  Here are my results::

I created an apple template for the main card base and slightly smaller templates for the apple and the leaves.   I cut 2 card bases out of the cardstock of my choice and then cut the designer paper in colors that were appropriate.  One apple is more traditional green and red however teh other is a bit more funky (but I love that bright limey green).

Stamps are Papertrey Ink.  The papers are all from my scrap bin.  Many of the buttons are Hero Arts but some are from my own vintage collection.

Thanks for dropping in!  I hope you have a wonderful week!

Using Scraps 7 - Hello You Deer

So I created a second card based on Kim Kesti's sketch shown on page 22 of the Sept/Oct issue of Paper Crafts magazine.  And continued to use up pieces of scrap.    This time I used one of my new stamps from American Crafts.  Isn't that deer the sweetest!!   and this time I did make the card square (yesterday's card used the same sketch but it was a typcial A2 size).
See that light brown circle, it is cardstock that has woodgrain already embossed into it.  However, the store where I bought it did not have the manufacturer identified so I just know that it is super cool!!

Well, there you have it!  7 cards all using nothing but scraps and all inspired by the September/October Paper Crafts magazine.  taht was lots of fun!!  I'll have to try it again soon!

Have a great weekend!

Using Scraps 6 - Wishing Your Happiness

So I know that I've had that dark blue flower in my scrap bin for many, many years and I'm happy to use it up on this card.  As well, the inky circle and the yellow frame have also been hanging around for a while :-)
This card was created based on Kim Kesti's sketch.  Of course her sketch is a square card but I wanted mine to be a regular A2 size.  To create the effect of square, I added the dark blue strips of cardstock down both sides!

I tell you the Sept/Oct issue of Paper Crafts magazine is truely chalk full of great inspiration!!   I have one last card to share tomorrow!
