Moxie Fab World - Fashion Challenge - Thinking of You Brooch

I wanted to play along with this challenge from Moxie Fab World ... but can you believe that I do not own any houndstooth paper or stamps!!  I looked thinking surely I have something ... but no I have nothing!  So I had to improvise.

I focused on the green (although a much yellow-er green than the color in the inspiration photo) and the brooch....

I added a pattern similar to houndstooth on my green designer paper using Versamark ink.  I kept the rest of the card clean and simple to focus on the embellishment and sentiment.  I stamped the bird image (Memory Box) and then cut out the paper to be just smaller than the frame.  Once the image was adhered, I filled the frame with Glossy Accents to mimic a brooch.

I adore that cream coloured lace below the sentiment strip ... found it at the Dollar Store for "a dollar!".

Okay, so that was a stretch for me .. but fun just the same!!

Make It Monday #37 - Layered Mats and Frames

Wanted to play along with this week's Make It Monday challenge #37 - to use layered mats and frames.  Trouble is, I only own 1 Papertrey Ink die (thanks Linda, a great Secret Sister!!).  Regardless, I knew I could be creative!!

I coloured in the small bloom from In Bloom (Papertrey Ink) with a blender pen and Lavendar Moon and Pure Poppy ink.  Cut the frame with Fillable Frames #4 and then the inside with a round spellbinder nestability oval die.  I added some text inside the frame with Background Basics: Text Style (Papertrey Ink).  The sentiment is also from the Fillable Frames #4 stamp set (thanks again to a wonderful Secret Sister, Linda!!).  The background is Hero Arts Decrative Woodgrain. 

This was fun, off to link it up and see what everyone else created!!

Thinking of You - Deer Scene

Another scene card this time created using the adorable set called Laughter (American Crafts).  The animals in the set are adorable.  And see that sun and cloud, they are also a stamp in the set which lends to creating cute little scenes like this one.

The frame that is around the scene (which is a greenish-yellow color in real life!) was an item from my scrap bin ... something that I was going to use on another card and decided not to at the time.  I think it looks great here around little Bambi. It is up on dimensionals! The sentiment is from Beyond Basic Borders (Papertrey Ink).  I created the grass by flicking color on the bottom with a Copic marker (YG95). 

This card could be used for many occasions - love creating cards like that!!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Yellow Flower Frame

Susan R. makes her One Layer Wednesday (OLW) challenges a real challenge.  This time the challenge was to use yellow (#35).  I had to cheat a bit with this card becuase there is a brad that holds the frame in place and I just don't like the backs of the brads showing through to the inside of the card.  So, I did add a whole other white layer onto the white card base.  I hope everyone can excuse this little oversight !!  If I wasn't so paticular ... the brads would show on the inside of a one layer card!! LOL!!  I'm sure our AR/OC leader will understand ... right Susan??

Sentiment is from Papertrey Inks 2010 Anniversary set Round and Round.

KLSNS Challenge #15 - Sketch

The gals over at KL Stampin N Scrapin have posted this awesome sketch to use as a challenge. I kinda swayed a bit from the basics here but the general layout follows the basics of the sketch.

This is actually a magnet and I am planning on sending it to my mom for a valentine gift with her card. I cut the square, scallop square, and circle using my Nestabilities. The rest is all bits and pieces put together!! I think it turned out pretty good and I am considering making a few more for myself and some other friends/relatives!

A Few Challenge Items

I've been working on some of my favorite challenges today. I am going to up load them so people can link to my blog and see them.

Here is an altered frame for Caardvarks (see link on right). I love the designer paper!! Not so keen on how the swirl turned out!! Chipboard and I don't seem to get along. It never ends up looking like I want it to look!!

Next up is this cute little baby card to show the baby love for Caardvarks (see link on right). Very little stamping on this card but I love that pieced bunny!!

Supplies: Paper-background is from K&Company, blues are from We R Memories; Ink-basic black (SU!); stamps-just one of the Studio g stamps from Michael's; Accessories-black pen(zig), white gel pen (Marvy), buttons and ribbon (unknown).

More Coaster Frames

I have already posted one of these frames, but that one did not have any stamping on it. So, I decided I'd make a few more. I thought it would be nice to send a present to Granny and Grampy so there will be pictures of my son inserted into these before the get dropped in the mail.

The first frame is made by covering it with this designer paper from Chatterbox called Olive Eyelet. Then I stamped this heart stamp with black ink. The colorful paper is actually Morning Marigold paper with the bouncing brayer technique. I used the Pumpkin Patch spectrum pad for this which is where all the colors come from. I used rub on letters for the sentiment and added a few swirls.

The second frame is made using River Rock cardstock. On it, I stamped the leaf image from The Art of Life using River Rock ink. I then took the leaf design from Sketch An Event and stamped it onto whisper white paper using black ink. Then, using a watercolor paint brush and the ink pad, I watercolored some of the River Rock color onto these leaves. It is difficult to see the color in the picture. I, again, used rub on letters for the sentiment and added a few leaves.

This sentiment... it is what my son says to Granny and Grampy every time he talks to them on the phone. It is so cute and I know my parents love it, and I'm sure they will love these frames too!!

Coaster Frame

Here is a quick and easy project using 3 coasters. I got the idea from Small Pig Pig at our Innisfail stamping weekend in July! Man, you should have seen her wipping these out at top speed!! They would make great presents for teachers or grandparents!!

They are extremely easy. You take your first coaster and using a ruler, measure to make a square in the middle of one coaster by marking the back of the coaster. Then cut it out with your hobby knife. I made my opening 2 1/4 x 2 1/2 here. Then glue a 2 1/2 x 2 3/4 sheet of transparency to the back of the coaster (the same side as the pencil marks)!! This is the front of the frame. Next, cut a "square U" in the second coaster so that the bottome of the U lines up with the bottom of your first square. This becomes the slot that you slide the picture into and the bottom of the U holds your little picture in place. The back of the frame is a plain coaster. You should decorate the front of your frame before glueing the 3 coasters together, especially if you want to tie ribbon around it or use brads.

The paper on this frame is from 7 gypsies - Angelo 6x6 variety pack. The ribbon I picked up at Michaels in the $1.50 bin (remember, I live in Canada and even though our dollar is now more than the US, we still have $1.50 bins while you enjoy your $1.00 bins). The entire coaster is sponged with Close to Cocoa (SU) using a dauber. I also dragged the edge of the frame on my Close to Cocoa stamp pad to make the edges all brown. I think this "finishes" the frame! You could really make this much more decorative using stamped and colored images.
