Creative Jump Start 2014 - Fly (Art Journal Page)

HI!  I have signed up for Creative Jump Start 2014.  So far it has been lots of fun and very inspiring!
The overall theme is using household objects in your art.  What fun!

In one of Natalie's first video's she encouraged us to use a very interesting household object to create cool texture ... like I did here!  Curious .. sign up for the course and find out what made this awesome design.

When making it, I used Liquitex Gesso spread over the entire page, then used the household object to create partial circles of awesome texture!

Added home-made sprays and Gelatos for colour.  Then collaged a bit with some bits and pieces in my stash.  I really like how the bird turned out ... it is cut from grungeboard (Ranger) then painted with more Liquitex Gesso, then  stamped using more of the turquoise home-made spray.  The brad was rusted (followed France's technique) and then some white spray added to it and more of my turquoise home-made spray to look like patina.

So much fun.  I have so much more to share. Stay tuned!

Downhill Tubing Fun (Scrapbooking)

Welcome back!  Here is another layout created based on Shimelle's Sketch 6

It was a perfect sketch for this event where I had a number of photos I wanted to include.

Remember how I am trying to not spend money but use what I have.  Well, I am always so tempted to purchase all the great labels that different companies sell.  But I don't and instead, I created my own labels that you see here using my circle and rectangle stamps from Papertrey Ink.

This was a lot of fun to create!
Thanks for visiting my small piece of the www

Life is Better with Friends (Scrapbooking)

Hi everyone.  I've been scrapbooking again.  I can't tell you how happy I am to be back at scrapbooking.  And the creative outlet is so good for me!!

Here is a page I made about my son's 13th birthday party and his friends.  The faces are blurred out as I don't have permission to share their images online.  Respect!

Did lots of distressing on this one. It just was required when using those papers!!

Papers are from the Industrial Park Collection by Scrap Within Reach (excellent boy papers!).

Stamps - finger pointer is from Purple Onion Designs, circles are from Boarders & Corners {Circles} from Papertrey Ink, Chinese Man is a stamp I made myself, small letters are from Simple Alphabet from Papertrey Ink.

Title sticker is from the Note to Self element sticker page by Echo Park and the 'Don't Ever Forget' sticker is from the Alpha Sticker page from the same collection (again, great boy colours in this collection .. if only I had the papers!).  The numbers 1 and 3 are from bon bon coloured teensy type stickers by Doodlebug Design.

Don't you just love my little chinese man??!!  He took a bit to carve but I think he turned out pretty good.  DS was pretty impressed so that means a lot.  It's a funny saying that he and his buddies say these days ... want to scrap it so he can remember it when he is older!

Thanks for dropping by for a visit.  Enjoy your day.

She Loves You (scrapbooking)

Hello and if you are returning, welcome back!

Today's layout is made for a challenge at 2peas - to use Christmas products on a non-Christmas page.  This was rather easy for me since I only own 1 Chrismas paper collection (Holly Jolly from My Minds Eye - a few years old) and had already pulled out the papers that could be used for everyday crafting!

So, this layout uses all papers and tags from the Christmas line.  I added in buttons from my stash, letter stickers (My Little Shoe Box) and rub on letters (American Crafts).  Also, I want to use my stamps as much as possible on my layouts so I pulled out Flourished (Papertrey Ink) and stamped it using Walnut Stain ink (Ranger).

A close up of the title.  You can also see where I sprinkled some Mister Huey's color mist (Dark Calico - Studio Calico) around the stamped images.

So that was a real fun challenge.

Thanks for dropping by.

You & Me (Scrapbooking)

A few weeks ago I was checking out my stash of scraps and die cuts and found a bunch of wonderful die cut flowers one of my former Secret Sister's had sent me (that's you Linda!).  I pulled them all out and set them aside so that I could use them.  Well, today I am showing you the project I made with them.

I started out by adhering all the flowers to white cardstock.  That was inspired by THIS awesome layout by Leanne Allinson at 2Peas and a Bucket.  Then I added stamped leaves (Turning a New Leaf, Papertrey Ink).  Then the addition of the little heart and word Love (Wedding Day, Papertrey Ink).

The overall layout and focal image was inspired by THIS layout by Scrapnik on 2peas and a Bucket.

I stamped more leaves on the kraft cardstock.  Added various strips of cardstock (stamped with little lines or large chevron by Recollections sold at Michael's).  The circle doily is from Martha Steward.  I pulled out some rub-ons to use (butterflies-Maya Road; decorative strip - BasicGrey) and that with the letters (EK Success) make a black triangle.  The amphersand is from Picadilly collection (BasicGrey).  The little kraft pocket that holds the journalling is from Recollections.  The white lacey trim is a die from Linda again (thanks Linda, I kept being able to use all the wonderful things you've sent me!).

Okay, so I like it ... but what is it about good scrapbookers ... their projects look so awesome and mine just looks so novice ... sheesh!!

Thanks for dropping by for a visit.

Lilacs - Scrapbook Page

Wow, I did't realize it would be so difficult to get back in the saddle.  It is hard to find your scrapbooking mojo when you've been away from it for so long (or crafting in general!).

Been spending time reconnecting with the scrapbooking world over on 2peas in a bucket

I started out making a sketch ... but you'll notice I strayed a bit.

Here is my page.  Took me way too long!  LOL!

And the details.  Note that I made the tags myself.  Other than the letters and the bird, all of the embellishments were handmade.  If I am not able to buy all the goodies in the world, I will need to make them.  This is something I find fulfilling ... like old fashion scrapbooking before there were so many dies and pemade embellies to buy.  You'll be seeing a lot of homemade stuff on my pages.

I will be entering it in the last Memory Keeping Monday Challenge (2peas is changing a bunch of the weekly challenges/video topics) which was to use any of the challenges covered in 2012's MKM challenges.  I chose the chipboard challenge posted 07/16/12.  I used the chipboard frame and bird.

Supplies: Papers - Reindeer Fly Paper (Holly Jolly - My Mind's Eye), Origins Collection (BasicGrey), papers from my stash; Ink - Walnut Stain (Ranger); Stamp - Designer Woodgrain (Hero Arts); Ribbon - Plum Pudding twill (Papertrey Ink); Punches/Diecuts - leaves (Stampin' Up!), burst (Martha Stewart) 1/4" and 1/2" circle punches (Stampin' Up!), Labels 8 (Spellbinders); Letters from Blush collection (BasicGrey); Chipboard - bird (Megenta), frame (unknown); Other - packaging (K&Co.), linen thread (Papertrey Ink), brown acrylic paint, vellum (blue and white).

I hope you like and maybe get inspired by my page today.
Thanks for visiting.

Crafty Creations Challenge #179 - Tag Bear

Hi everyone!  This week the Crafty Creations Challenge #179 is to create a tag or use a tag on your card.  Well, I don't know about you but I adore these big, long ribbon tags that are so popular right now!!  And this one looks so sweet next to this lovely image from Meljens Designs, our sponser this week!!

I coloured the bear and berry with a combination of Copics and pencil crayons.  See that awesome baker's twine .. it is grey and white and compliments of a former Secret Sister (thanks Vickie - LoVE it!!).  I did a bunch of faux stitching on this card - seemed approrpriate due to the stitched bear :-)

Now off you go to upload your tag at Crafty Creations Challenge for your chance to be the winner!!
See you there.

Birthday Butterfly

I am so grateful for online crafting friends!  You see, this card is created thanks to one!

I used my relatively new butterfly die from Papertrey Ink (why have I used it much less than I figured I would??) and creaeted this card from papers that I received from Angela - an online friend.  I won some goodies from her when I did a word scramble on a swap that we are both in.  Such beautiful papers and goodies.

Thanks for dropping by.

Image Swap - April

Hello!  Today I am sharing the card I created for a swap I am in.  This image, from Tanja is so cute.  She added the challenge to use red and blue, which I think was a perfect choice for the image.

While you can't see it in the photo, the stars are all painted with Twinkling H2O and looks really shimmery in real life!

And see my sentiment bubble ... made with felt!  So fun!!

Thanks for dropping by.

PaperCrafts Magazine CASE - Lindsey's choice

I knew you'd come back!  If you missed yesterday's CASE cards, make sure you go to my post yesterday and check it out.

But today is Lindsey's pick and she chose this stunner by Sarah Jay (on page 22).  She particuarly liked the technique.  Now, there are really 2 techniques here ... the shadowed sentiment as well as the masking.  I opted to use both and keep my card very similar to the original.

However, I decided to go with a different colour combination.

I chose some of my favourite flowers from various Papertrey Ink sets.

and here is a closer up of the shadow sentiment.  To create it, I stamped the sentiment once and then moved the image slightly to the right and stamped again (2nd generational stamping).  The stamp set is from Lawn Fawn.

Okay, now off to see what Lindsay did with this CASE.  I'm always so excited to see what she has created.  And don't forget to leave a link in a comment if you decide to play along with us.

And we are planning to post again next week on Thurs and Fri more CASE cards!  See you then.

PaperCrafts Magazine CASE - My Choice

Lindsey and I are at it again!  We have picked cards from the magazine Paper Crafts (March/Arpil 2012).
Today is my pick and I just had to choose this one by Jaclyn Miller (page 52).  Such an amazing layout!

So for my card, I kept the layout and the polka dots ... and changed a whole bunch of things.

And now off to see what Lindsey created using this layout.

Wanna join us??  If you have the magazine, why not give this CASE a try.  Just leave us a comment and let us see what you did with it.

And don't forget to come back tomorrow when we will both show you CASE cards based on Lindsey's pick.  It's a good one!  You won't want to miss it.

PaperCrafts Magazine CASE - Lindsey's choice 2

Hello again!  Glad to see you back.  Today's card is choosen by Lindsey.  Check out that beauty.  I too almost picked it so was totally pumped to see that Lindsey had.  That ribbon behind the element is awesome!!  (see pg 26 by Vivian Masket)

So I kept to the overall layout, changing the colours and card theme.

This great flower is from a sticker sheet (BasicGrey).  The ribbon is Stampin' Up! and the sentiment is Papertrey Ink.

Okay, now off to see what Lindsey created with this awesome card.  I know she had a particular ribbon she was going to use on this card.

Hope you enjoyed this CASEing fun.

Clean and Simple Stitched Valentine

A few months ago I made a big Papertrey Ink order and in it was a set called Daily Designs.  This is such a great versatile set ... perfect for a beginner as it has lots of small images that could be used for all the holidays and occasions - spring, father's day, easter, baby, halloween, birthday, winter, and valentines day, plus some general images like leaves and birds.

For this card, I used this great stitched heart image in various PTI shades of pinks and red.

A little bit of pure poppy Itty Bitty Dots designer paper (Papertrey Ink) and voila!  A great Valentine!

Glad you could drop by my little corner of the www

Today is Lindsey's choice (see page 29 by Angeline Yong Jeet Leen)

I focused on the general layout....

These apple stickers are from the Picadilly paper pack (BasicGrey), which I ADORE!!!  Very little stamping, just the lovely sentiment (from Autumn Abundance, Papertrey Ink).

Now you need to head over to Lindsey's blog to see what she did with this inspiration card.
And, don't forget to drop back in tomorrow for my CASE choice.

Crafty Creations Challenge #163 - Game On!

Hello and welcome to Crafty Creations Challenge #163 - Game On!  That's right, the challenge is to create a card that deals with games (ball, board, or anything else).

Now let me tell you, I was really stumped on this one at first .. but then I started looking around and realized I did have a few sets that would help.  In the end, I created 3 different Clean And Simple cards using Toy Box (Stampin' Up - retired) and Boy Basics: Game On (Papertrey Ink).

Here is card #1 - a little 3x3 to give my wonderful son some inspiration at some point:

Card #2 ... a play off the ball in Toy Story ....

and Card #3, which I will probably save for my son's birthday which is quickly approaching!  Check that awesome graph paper ... downloaded it free HERE.

Like I said, I stuck to Clean and Simple, and all are very masculine cards - perfect for boys!

Okay, now off to check out and see what everyone else created.

Group 2:

and check out the
for cards that members of Group 1 might have added.

Now it is your turn.  Look around your crafting space ... think outside the box!!  Maybe you have some old dominos laying around or scabble pieces ... just think ... Bingo is a game, right .... (now I am just giving myself more ideas ... LOL!)

Stretching Supplies

Hello!
A number of weeks ago on Make It Monday, Dawn McVey showed a snazzy idea of stretching your supplies .. specifically your frames or labels.  You simply stamp one image twice but then cover up the spot where they stamp beside each other to make it look like a bigger frame.  Here the butterfly and flower are covering up where the 2 are stamped on top of each other... but if you don't know that it just looks like a really big frame stamp.

I really like these colours: lavender moon, spring moss, white, and kraft.  It looks really fresh and springy to me!!
