Scrapbooking Starting Point with Shimelle - You Rock (Scrapbooking)

I am a huge Shimelle fan (and a Glitter Girl fan too!).  I visit Shimelle's blog often and was excited to see she had a challenge up called Scrapbooking Starting Point.  She started with this basic layout and added her own photos, title, and embellishments.  She wanted us to start at this point in the process, forget what she did and just do our own thing!  Awesome idea!!

I had to give myself a few days break to actually forget what Shimelle did (or try to forget) so that I wouldn't just copy her overall finished result.

In the end, I scrapped these photos of my son playing his guitar when we were camping.  I chose bright colours for my patterened papers (all BasicGrey)!  The arrow-like stamp ... that is one I created myself!

While Shimelle always uses stickers for her title, I decided to go with stamps and used jibber jabber from Alley Way Stamps (stamped with Walnut Stain ink by Ranger).  I also used the ticket stamp from the Miss Caroline set by My Minds Eye (with Fired Brick ink by Ranger).  And see that brown circle with the embellishments - it is actually a postage circle stamp from French Country Postage by gel-a-tins.  I like it alot because it is not a perfect circle but has imperfectios.

To finish the layout, I added a few blue heart brads to my 3 embellishment spots as well as a few green brads at the top right and bottom left corners.  I spattered on some Mr. Huey's Dark Calico color mist (that is becomming a favourite of mine!) and drew some brown lines around the edge of the cardstock to finish off the page.

So, if you are interested in scrapbooking and want some inspiration, you MUST visit Shimelle's blog! (and go see Glitter Girl at 2peas as well!!)

Thanks for dropping by.

She Loves You (scrapbooking)

Hello and if you are returning, welcome back!

Today's layout is made for a challenge at 2peas - to use Christmas products on a non-Christmas page.  This was rather easy for me since I only own 1 Chrismas paper collection (Holly Jolly from My Minds Eye - a few years old) and had already pulled out the papers that could be used for everyday crafting!

So, this layout uses all papers and tags from the Christmas line.  I added in buttons from my stash, letter stickers (My Little Shoe Box) and rub on letters (American Crafts).  Also, I want to use my stamps as much as possible on my layouts so I pulled out Flourished (Papertrey Ink) and stamped it using Walnut Stain ink (Ranger).

A close up of the title.  You can also see where I sprinkled some Mister Huey's color mist (Dark Calico - Studio Calico) around the stamped images.

So that was a real fun challenge.

Thanks for dropping by.

Still My Crazy Kid (scrapbooking)

Hi all!

I was able to make another page for one of the challenges going on over at 2 peas.  This time the challenge was to use a 4 word title.  That made it easy. I wanted to scrapbook about my son who is growing up ... but yet still just my good old crazy kid whom I love so much!

I used some of my new products I ordered from 2peas.  I know, I said I wasn't going to buy new stuff but use the stuff I have... but what I've discovered is that the products I had for cardmaking don't necessarily work well for scrapbooking.  So, I HAD to buy some basics!!

Supplies: Papers - Fourteen collection from Crate Paper, Basic White from BasicGrey, black polka dot paper is Making Memories; Stamps - Lovestuck by Amy Tangerine;  Punches - all but little heart from Martha Stewart; Tag from gloves we bought our son for Christmas (I love to recycle!).

I am really enjoying getting back into scrapbooking again!  I have another page made as well which I will load up soon!

I have some requests for cards as well so I will be blogging them soon.

Thanks for dropping by.

You & Me (Scrapbooking)

A few weeks ago I was checking out my stash of scraps and die cuts and found a bunch of wonderful die cut flowers one of my former Secret Sister's had sent me (that's you Linda!).  I pulled them all out and set them aside so that I could use them.  Well, today I am showing you the project I made with them.

I started out by adhering all the flowers to white cardstock.  That was inspired by THIS awesome layout by Leanne Allinson at 2Peas and a Bucket.  Then I added stamped leaves (Turning a New Leaf, Papertrey Ink).  Then the addition of the little heart and word Love (Wedding Day, Papertrey Ink).

The overall layout and focal image was inspired by THIS layout by Scrapnik on 2peas and a Bucket.

I stamped more leaves on the kraft cardstock.  Added various strips of cardstock (stamped with little lines or large chevron by Recollections sold at Michael's).  The circle doily is from Martha Steward.  I pulled out some rub-ons to use (butterflies-Maya Road; decorative strip - BasicGrey) and that with the letters (EK Success) make a black triangle.  The amphersand is from Picadilly collection (BasicGrey).  The little kraft pocket that holds the journalling is from Recollections.  The white lacey trim is a die from Linda again (thanks Linda, I kept being able to use all the wonderful things you've sent me!).

Okay, so I like it ... but what is it about good scrapbookers ... their projects look so awesome and mine just looks so novice ... sheesh!!

Thanks for dropping by for a visit.

Your Room (scrapbooking)

Hello.

If you are unaware ... Winter CHA is happening this weekend.  What that means is new supplies coming to an LSS near you.  But not for me (or at least I am going to try to withstand the temptation).
What it also means is 2Peas is running online challenges where you can win if you upload layouts or cards based on the challenge.  I get if I win ... so I'll be entering!!

For today, I wanted to scrap by sons room as it is now that he is 13.  A long time ago, I scrapped his room when he was just little.  While some things are the same, there is a lot that is different as well.  I think it will be cool for him when he is older to look back and see what was in his room.

The 2peas Challenge I am entering this layout into is the Select 7 Diffrent Patterns challenge.  That is right ... use 7 different patterns on your layout. I can hardly believe it but I did.  All come from the Lime Rickey Collection (BasicGrey).  That made it a bit easier.

Here is a close up of the title.  Large letters are also from the Lime Rickey collection (BasicGrey) but the little letters are black on clear squares from Recollections (sold at Michaels).

I also used a rub-on (the All Mine circle at the top left corner of the verticle photo) and it is from Sampin' Up!

I must say, I am enjoying the creative outlet of scrapbooking again!  I am trying to be brave and just cut into all my beautiful paper .. to use it up.  I have an agreement with myself .. if I use it all, I can buy new stuff again.  No better way to motivate myself!!

Hope over to 2peas and see what is going down at Winter CHA.  If you want to see video's showing some of the new products you can check it out HERE.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hawaii Scrapbook - Day 2

Hello and welcome back to some more pages of my Hawaii scrapbook.

This page of the book featured our favourite adventure ... and I wanted to scrap a bunch of photos so I ended up making a 3 page layout ... one of the sides opens up!

Here is the first page of the layout.  See those home-made flower embellishments.  I used a clip art, sprayed them with some aqua mist, and then painted on more of the aqua mist near the center for lots of interest.

Here is the second page.

And then you flip open the page to get these last 2 pages.

I have been working on incorporating the visual triangles on my pages.  You can clearly see one here with the pages open.  3 embellishment spots with a collage of a blue flower, and red circle.

One day left with just a few pages.

Thanks for dropping by,
Donelda

Hawaii Scrapbook - Day 1

Hello everyone!

(Edited - I realize that this ended up being the second day my Hawaii scrapbook published ... last week I see the wrong post went up .... sheesh!!  Sorry about that!)

This week I will be sharing my Hawaii scrapbook, or at least a few of the pages from it (I've picked the ones I like best)

Here is the book.  I bought it when I was in Hawaii.  It is cool ... but hard to photograph as the pages do not open up easily (you get to see my hand!)

And here are some of the pages.

(sorry for the glare ... hard to hold the book open and get a good shot!)

Handmade turtle embellishment.

The first page of a double page on snorkling.  Another homemade turtle embellishment .. see the glaze on his back?

The other side of the double layout talks about the monk seal that was on the beach sunning himself!

Back on Wednesday for a few more pages.
Thanks for dropping in.

Be Positive (scrapbooking)

Hello.

Today I have a scrapbook page to share.  It is about me.  This would be the first time I've ever scrapbooked about me.  I was inspired by a challenge at 2peas - the new In the Mood to Scrap for Jan 1, 2013 where Wilna wanted us to use the mood board she created as inspiration as well as pick a word that means something to us.

If you check out the mood board, you will see that I used the quote "creativity takes courage" as it really spoke to me.  I also used the same colour for my 'word' - which was cut the old fashioned way (printed in reverse on paper and cut with a craft knife).

Here is a close up of the bottom corner of the page.  I like the little pops of pink and red in the tiny flowers on the punched circles of designer paper.

And I like the stitiching on some of the elements which gives it a home-made feel.

Supplies used:  Paper - Deck the Halls from Holly Jolly collection (My Mind's Eye) - Yup ... Christmas paper used on a non-Christmas page  - it is the lovely brown tone on tone damask background paper and oh so beautiful!!, Blush collection (BasicGrey) - that's the turquoise, Sunshine collection (My Mind's Eye) - the pattern used for the hexigons, Market (My Mind's Eye) the cute little flower pattern from those little circles and the back of that is the ledger paper that the word 'Simplify' is stamped onto, Basics White (BasicGrey) - the paper I printed the quote onto and the date tag; Ink - Walnut Stain (Ranger); Other - 1" and 1/2" circle punches (Stampin' Up!), hexigon shapes were traced from the negative cardboard from punching out game pieces from one of my son's games  ... I knew it would come in handy!!, sewing maching, brown pearls from my stash.

Sorry about the poor quality photography.  I continue to struggle with lighting in my craft room. Might have to splurge on a better lamp.

So, are you courageous enough to scrapbook about yourself??!!  Go for it.

Thanks for dropping by for a visit.

Hawaii Scrapbook - Day 3

Hello.

Last 3 pages of my Hawaii scrapbook.

These ones are of the luau that we went to.  So much fun.

Love the black and white background paper (Lillybee) with all those colourful flags at the bottom.  I also tucked in the actual ticket stub in with the journalling as a keepsake!

Page 2 of this 2-page layout (sorry it seems washed out!)

and finally a layout featuring my son and I at Cheeseburgers ... yum!  Again, loving the suble background paper with all the pops of colour!

and that is it!!

Thanks for hanging out here for the week checking out this scrapbook. I hope you have
been inspired a bit.

See you next week wth something different.

Just Saying Hello (Card)

Hello.

Made this card using some wonderful secret sister supplies!  I love the collage image and used my inks and a sponge to add colour.

And check the fancy brad centers!  Love them.

New Craft Room

Hello!

One of the things I did while on a break from crafting was to paint and reorganize my craft room.  I wanted it to be conducive to many crafts, not just card making.

My creativity flows so much better now due to less clutter!  And the colour is so soothing.

Here is my desk.  Bins of supplies close by.  Stamps on the shelf above and my Papertrey Ink stamps are against the wall.    My key items are in the organizer under the desk so I can pull it out when I am going to create.  If I want to work on other things, like painting or drawing, then they are not in my way.

On the other side of my desk sits my papers, inks, and embellishments.  See that little white basket on my desk, that is where I put items I want to use on a project in the near future.  For example, when I was making a page this week, I came across some great flowers one of my former secret sister's sent me (that's you Linda!) ... so I pulled them out and put them in there to use them soon.

See, I really don't need to purchase anything else but, rather, need to use up all this!!!  LOL!

Against the other wall is my brand new Epson printer!  And see that green wicker basket - that is for projects to do other than paper crafts, like mending, painting, etc.  Very helpful when I have a few minutes to look in there and see what I could get done.

I'd love to see your space too.  Leave me a link if you post about it on your blog.
Until next time,
Donelda

Lilacs - Scrapbook Page

Wow, I did't realize it would be so difficult to get back in the saddle.  It is hard to find your scrapbooking mojo when you've been away from it for so long (or crafting in general!).

Been spending time reconnecting with the scrapbooking world over on 2peas in a bucket

I started out making a sketch ... but you'll notice I strayed a bit.

Here is my page.  Took me way too long!  LOL!

And the details.  Note that I made the tags myself.  Other than the letters and the bird, all of the embellishments were handmade.  If I am not able to buy all the goodies in the world, I will need to make them.  This is something I find fulfilling ... like old fashion scrapbooking before there were so many dies and pemade embellies to buy.  You'll be seeing a lot of homemade stuff on my pages.

I will be entering it in the last Memory Keeping Monday Challenge (2peas is changing a bunch of the weekly challenges/video topics) which was to use any of the challenges covered in 2012's MKM challenges.  I chose the chipboard challenge posted 07/16/12.  I used the chipboard frame and bird.

Supplies: Papers - Reindeer Fly Paper (Holly Jolly - My Mind's Eye), Origins Collection (BasicGrey), papers from my stash; Ink - Walnut Stain (Ranger); Stamp - Designer Woodgrain (Hero Arts); Ribbon - Plum Pudding twill (Papertrey Ink); Punches/Diecuts - leaves (Stampin' Up!), burst (Martha Stewart) 1/4" and 1/2" circle punches (Stampin' Up!), Labels 8 (Spellbinders); Letters from Blush collection (BasicGrey); Chipboard - bird (Megenta), frame (unknown); Other - packaging (K&Co.), linen thread (Papertrey Ink), brown acrylic paint, vellum (blue and white).

I hope you like and maybe get inspired by my page today.
Thanks for visiting.

Happy 2013 and Welcome Back!

Hello out there crafters and welcome to a New Year here at Wiggy's World!

I am very excited to jump back into crafting and blogging.
For most of 2012, I took a break from both.  I needed to take some time out in order to simplify my life, reduce some added stress, and realign what is important to me.

Crafting is one of the things that is important to me.  But I have to do it in a way that makes sense and does not create an added stressor in my very busy life.  I've been busy thinking about what I want to do and how to do it. I am not sure I have it all figured out ... but I'm ready to start back in again.

One of the things I've decided to do is start scrapbooking again.  I will still make cards, but I need another creative outlet.  I have also started an art journal and will be sharing some of my work with that as well.

Finally, I have committed myself to not spend any more money on supplies (or a very minimal amount) and to use what I have.  That means I will not be creating with the most current lines or products.  It is my hope to use what I have to replicate some of those new embellishments, doodads, journalling tags and flowers.

So, if you are like me and don't have thousands of dollars to spend on supplies or you don't belong to all the coolest desgin teams in the world ...but still like to create.. maybe you can join me in my journey and we can inspire each other.

I think it is going to be FUN!!

Thanks for dropping by.  See you tomorrow.
