Barbles Inspiration Challenge #2 - Dreams Take Flight

I really wanted to play along with Barb and her Barbles Inspiration Chellenge #2.  Check out the picture board she supplied for us to use as inspiration!  It was so hard to focus!  In the end, I decided to go wtih the picture of the bird on the wire.

And here is my final creations.

I decided to pull out my alcohol inks to create this swirly cloudy background.  So much fun.  The silver mixative is what really made the swirls.  The image is Bird Branch from Memory Box ... a sad stamp because he has not been inked up for a long time!!  Happy now!

Butterfly Flight

A while ago I was playing with transparencies and alcohol inks.  Back then I had made this focal point, which then got put into my "use later" bin.  There is a lot going on in that focal piece.  I started out by cutting a piece of clear acetate or tranparency with a Labels 1 (Spellbinders) die. Then, I used some green alcohol inks (Ranger) to color it (probably Lettuce and Meadow).  Next, I adhered some text paper from an old book (bought at a garage sale many years ago).  Finally, I added the butterfly (Rubber Stampede) and flourish (Fancy Flourishes, Papertrey Ink) using StazOn ink. 

So a few days ago, I pulled this piece from my bin and wanted to add it to a card.  I decided that I liked the piece so much I wanted to keep it the 'main attraction' so kept the rest pretty clean and simple.  I added a round birthday sentiment also found in my "use later" scrap bin (an old retired Stampin' Up set).  To finish off the card, I used my .3 black marker (Prismacolor) and a ruler around the edge of the card.

Deb Corder's Birthday Card!

You might have been over at Deb Corder's blog before, especially if you love vintage and collage.  She rocks at it!  And she is a super sweet person!!  So today is her birthday and a few of her friends decided to get together and surprise her with a birthday hop!!   So if you have arrived here from KELLY's blog you are on the right track.  If you have arrived her accendently, you will want to go to the start at JOANNA's blog.  For Deb's card, I wanted to create something she will appreciate. So, since her favorite color is green I decided to go with that combined with brown.  I found this "moo" (which is 1.5" x 3") that I had made a long time ago.  I thought it would be perfect for Deb's card as it was a bit on the collage side!  I added it to the alcohol inked background, did some sponging and added this rustic ribbon.  Some supplies: Stamps - Text Boxed (Papertrey Ink); Paper - glossy cardstock, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi (Stampin' Up!); Other - vintage girl (freebie from somewhere a long time ago!), leaf cut from fabric in my scraps, buttons (Hero Arts I think), brown ribbon (Stampin' Up!), alcohol inks (Ranger), dimensionals.

Delicious Apples - CAS 82

I had this idea running around and around in my head all night long for the Clean and Simple challenge #82 over at SCS.  I had to get up this morning and make it before heading out to work.  Now I'm going to be late but that is okay ... I'm kinda waiting for the FROST to melt off my car windshield before I have to go scrap it!!  Sheesh, frost on the 31st of August!!!!

I dropped the cranberry alcohol ink onto glossy paper and then moved it around with a can of air!  (so much fun!).  Then I stamped the open apple strategically on top.  Originally I had planned to use only 1 apple but I liked all of them so picked the best 3 and added them to the card.  Then I colored the leaf and stems with Copics.  Finally, I have been meaning to do some scoring (I've had my Score Pal since Christmas and haven't "thought" to do it yet!!! sheesh!!) so I added scoring lines above and below the apples and again at the bottom of the card.  A simple thinking of you sentiment finishes the card!  Good, clean, and simple!!

Supplies: Stamps-TEahcer's Apple, Beyond Basic Borders (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Kraft (SU!), glossy paper; Ink - Jet Black (Ranger); Other - Alcohol ink, Cranberry (Ranger), Score Pal, Copic markers (YG03 and E44).

Saturday Spotlight - Slick

The latest challenge at Saturday Spotlight with Hidden Potential was to use something "slick" on our cards - like slick cardstock, embellishments, acetate paper, crystal lacquar, etc. I knew instantly I wanted to do T!m Holtz' technique where he puts inks on photo paper and squirts the blobs with a can of air to make splats! You can see his tutorial HERE - he'll explain it much better than I ever could!! So I made this tag to put on a gift for my mom (who is feeling down these days). I then thought it could be a focal point for a card ... hence the stamped black butterflies behind it. What do you think....keep it as a tag to attach to a gift or add it to a card??? Daring Cardmakers - Scraplings

So here I am doing another Daring Cardmakers challenge -- two weeks in a row!! And, I am actually getting them posted!! Wow!! This week the challenge over at Daring Cardmakers is to make Scraplings. Now, if you know me at all you totally know that I LOVE making scraplings. I had so much fun today. I spent the whole day creating great stuff out of scraps (and I have a ton of that!!). These first scraplings are created from a background I created using alcohol inks. I have been watching Jennifer McGuire's videos on alcohol inks....again... and was inspired to drag mine out and give them a go. Can you believe that this colorful background was created with only 3 colors of ink -- lettuce, stream, and wild plum. I put them on the felt in strips and then swiped it across the glossy cardstock. Stunning!! Stamps: letters (Hero Arts) sentiments -Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink), squiggle line - Borders & Corners {square} (Papertrey Ink). Next up are these cherry cards. The inspiration and main background for these scraplings came from some Mary Engelbreit packaging - the black cardboard with the tiny red dots. Not sure if you can tell but the cherries have glaze over them to make them shiny! Stamps - All Through the Year (Stampin' Up!), sentiments - Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink). And last but certainly not least my pastel Scraplings. Many of my stamping friends laugh at how I save every little piece of paper and ribbon, especially Papertrey Ink paper!! But here is a good example of why I do it! See all those little strips of paper...I've been saving them!! Even the cut out side when I cut out scallops - see a few of them on the left hand scrapling. I love the result! I drew and hand cut the little talking bubble - so cute!! Stamps - Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink); Other - Cuttlebug Die (Cat), butterfly punch (Martha Stewart), gems (Dollarama), flowers are from a friend (maybe Stampin' Up! punch). So there you go, a whole bunch of Scraplings! I have all my different bins of scraps pulled out (large pieces of background, medium sized backgrounds and stamped images, medium sized punches and die cuts, and small items like the flowers and mouse and other small scraps) so I think I will just keep creating!! Alcohol Inked Butterfly

Isn't this background so pretty! The magic is in Alcohol Inks by Ranger! They are amazing!! For this background I used Lettuce, Meadow, and Caramel.

The butterfly is stamped onto cold laminate (like acetate only with a sticky side). Once it is dry, I added yellow and red Pearl Ex to the sticky side! It is really shimmery in person. Finally, I added some bling and the sentiment along the bottom of the card front and attached it all to the white card base.

Supplies: Stamp - Bliss (smARTworks); Ink-Jet Black (StazOn), various alcohol inks (Ranger); Paper-Glossy white, Whisper White (Stampin' Up!); Other-Pearl Ex (Stamin' Up!), cold laminate, rhinstones.

Encouragement - Dina's Challenge #4

So, Dina's fourth challenge out of the five she posted was to make an encouragement card for someone. Well, a wonderful lady from my work has been quitely looking out for me!! So, I decided to make her a card to thank her for being so kind for me and encouaraging her to keep up the great work she is doing!!

This image is so beautiful. And I love it done in black!! I stamped this with StazOn ink onto some alcohol inked glossy cardstock. That is always so much fun to do!!

I added some ribbon, a scallop edge, and a sentiment and a very simple and easy card made for a special person!!

Alcohol Inked Leaves

I love using my Alcohol Inks from Ranger but I can't seem to make the colors very "intense". I saw a great card a few weeks ago that was made this same way....but the colors on that card were so much more intense that this turned out.

See the leaves on the inked panel....they have just green ink on them (lettuce I think). They were embossed, then I covered the whole panel with multiple ink (being careful to not get any where the leaves were) and then went back in and inked the leaves, carefully using the bottle.

If anyone out there knows what I need to do to make my colors stronger, please leave me a comment. Maybe I should give ole Tim a call and see if I can a demo!!! Wouldn't that be cool!!

Valentine Card Sketch

It has been a long time since I've played at Roxie's Card Sketches so I decided I had to do today's Sketch Challenge 157. The layout looked like a lot of fun and Roxie's sample cards are always so inspiring!!

I made this card into a 3 1/2" x 5" card. I've been making a lot of cards this size and I really like it!! It is nice to try out something different than the typical size for a change.

I decided that I would take the opportunity to make a Valentine card for my wonderful husband. I'll have to ban him from my blog until then, LOL.

I started out with a vanilla card base and added some of the light brown patterned paper (Once Upon a Time Deja View) and added some of the textured pink (Classic K Cardstock Pad K&Company). I stitched around both pieces with pink thread then layered them. Then I stamped the image with Close to Cocoa ink and colored it in with my water pencil colors. I added some small scallops at the top as well. Once this was done, I added the sentiment using rub-ons.

I added the wonderfully beautiful Satin Ribbon from Stampin' Up. They had a sale on the chocolate chip and pomegrante - buy one get one free, so I ended up with 2 of each! They are both so beautiful and tie great knots and bows! Once this was done, I started working on that

cool puzzle piece. I bought it at Michaels and it is a 3 piece metal pendant and charm set called Heart and Soul from Blue Moon Beads. I got the inspiration from Gina K Design's wonderful puzzle set, of course. I used Ginger and Cranberry Alcohol Inks on the puzzle to match the browns and pinks of the card. It took a bit of playing around to get the cranberry to be more pink than red but I think it matches quite well.

Finally, I added some buttons onto the edge of the pink piece of designer paper. Other than the heart buton, the rest are not any ordinary buttons. They are buttons that I got from my husband's grandmother who passed away a few years ago. I have a whole bag of various colors, shapes, and sizes and I save them for very special family cards. He will definatly know where they came from and it will make the card even more special for him!

Bright and Shiny!!

Well, this card is certainly not my usual style!! I am probably going to have to work on this baby a bit more to make it "doable" for me. It all started with that shiney colorful strip.......see it!! Believe it or not, it is Aluminum Tape that I picked up in the hardware area of our Dollar Store. I thought I would be able to use my new Adirondack Alcohol Inks with it... and I was right!! I used Strem, Lettuce, and Wild Plum. Those colors lead me to the turquoise and orchird cardstocks. I added a bit of black to "tone it down a little". The drink is also colored with the same inks and the corner of a piece of felt. I made it circular because Sharon over at No Time To Stamp? had a challenge (Stamp Simply Challenge #12) to make a circle card. And the "tape" fits into Julia's challenge on SCS to use tape in some way on a card. Wow, I think this might be the only time I've ever actually "doubled up" on a challenge. Now, if someone had just had a challenge to use extremely bright colors on a card.... hahaha!! Here is a little peek at the project I will be posting tomorrow! Inked-Up Christmas Tree

The Card Positioning System layout looked like a lot of fun!!

I had this silver metal Christmas tree that I bought last year (see, I am really trying to use up some of the stuff I've been collecting). I decided to try using my Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks on it to see what it would look like. I ended up liking it a lot. I used Lettuce, Meadow, and Latte.

The designer paper is from 3 Bugs In A Rug called French Country - Trellis. I didn't have any ribbon that would match my Christmas tree so I decided to try adding some of the Lettuce Alcohol Ink to a piece of yellow organdy and it turned out great as well!! Gotta love when that happens!

Other products used are: Very Vanilla, Real Red, Whisper White cardstock (SU), Very Vanilla craft ink (sponged around the edge of the white card base) and Basic Black ink (distressed edge of vanilla cs), corner rounder.
