Loonie Stamper's Challenge - 83 and Daring Cardmakers Turquoise

The Loonie Stamper's Challenge #83 was to use your favorite set. I actually included two of my all time favorites in here from Papertrey Ink. Beautiful Blooms was one of the first sets ever released by Nichole and it continues to be one of my favorites (but Turning a New Leaf and Beautiful Blooms 2 might give it a run for it's money) and also Background Basics: Retro which I can't seem to stop using!!! I also decided to play along with the Daring Cardmakers challenge - use turquoise (but of course I'm late - sheesh!!) The leaves are stamped on some Linen Vellum from Papertrey Ink which provides such an awesome effect!! Daring Cardmakers - Hole in One challenge

The challenge this week over at the Daring Cardmakers Blog is called 'Hole in One'. That's right, Lythan challenged us to make cards with at least one hole in it!

Well, I certainly did not stop at one...I made a card with a whole bunch of holes in it :o)

I stamped the circle background from Background Basics: Retro (Papertrey Ink) and then took my eyelet setter and puched out random holes.

Then I backed it with this yummy Marigold Morning (retired Stampin' Up! color). I used my new Threading Waters border punch (Fiskers) too, just to emphasize the holes!!

Finally, I added a bit of brown cardstock and a sentiment from Giga Guide Lines (Papertrey Ink) - a great size!!

Daring Cardmakers - Scraplings

So here I am doing another Daring Cardmakers challenge -- two weeks in a row!! And, I am actually getting them posted!! Wow!! This week the challenge over at Daring Cardmakers is to make Scraplings. Now, if you know me at all you totally know that I LOVE making scraplings. I had so much fun today. I spent the whole day creating great stuff out of scraps (and I have a ton of that!!). These first scraplings are created from a background I created using alcohol inks. I have been watching Jennifer McGuire's videos on alcohol inks....again... and was inspired to drag mine out and give them a go. Can you believe that this colorful background was created with only 3 colors of ink -- lettuce, stream, and wild plum. I put them on the felt in strips and then swiped it across the glossy cardstock. Stunning!! Stamps: letters (Hero Arts) sentiments -Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink), squiggle line - Borders & Corners {square} (Papertrey Ink). Next up are these cherry cards. The inspiration and main background for these scraplings came from some Mary Engelbreit packaging - the black cardboard with the tiny red dots. Not sure if you can tell but the cherries have glaze over them to make them shiny! Stamps - All Through the Year (Stampin' Up!), sentiments - Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink). And last but certainly not least my pastel Scraplings. Many of my stamping friends laugh at how I save every little piece of paper and ribbon, especially Papertrey Ink paper!! But here is a good example of why I do it! See all those little strips of paper...I've been saving them!! Even the cut out side when I cut out scallops - see a few of them on the left hand scrapling. I love the result! I drew and hand cut the little talking bubble - so cute!! Stamps - Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink); Other - Cuttlebug Die (Cat), butterfly punch (Martha Stewart), gems (Dollarama), flowers are from a friend (maybe Stampin' Up! punch). So there you go, a whole bunch of Scraplings! I have all my different bins of scraps pulled out (large pieces of background, medium sized backgrounds and stamped images, medium sized punches and die cuts, and small items like the flowers and mouse and other small scraps) so I think I will just keep creating!! Daring Cardmakers - Kraft

I don't usually get to play with the Daring Cardmakers challenges but I saw that this weeks challenge was to use Kraft ... and since I love Kraft so much, I decided to play.

I happened to be searching through Vicky's blog (aka Dolly - not sure which is her real name), she's the newest guest designer, and I saw THIS card....wow, how cute is that. I decided I would use it for inspiation for my card.

And, I did not use Kraft cardstock, but rather a Kraft file folder!!! I love the color, it is a bit warmer than the cardstock sold through Stampin' Up!

I created a card base and then stamped on this Fat Cat (All Night Media). Then I used some small stamps from Cats GAlore (Inkakinkado) to create a border on a seperate piece of the kraft file folder. I cut it and added some heavy black lines using a black marker. Next up, a word bubble with my sentiment in it that is hand drawn, stamped, cut out, and adhered to the card with dimensionals. The 'meow' is from the Cats Galore set and the 'happy birthday' are from Birthday Basics (Papertrey Ink).

Finally, I colored in my cat and the little images with my pencil crayons (Prismacolor). I love, love, love coloring on Kraft cardstock!!!!

Now I am anxious to go see what everyone else does with Kraft Cardstock.....off to take a peek!!

Plastic Challenge

Playing around tonight so I had to upload. Over at Daring Cardmakers they challenged us to make something using plastic packaging that is destined for the bin or recycling. What a great idea! I love recycling things in my crafting. See that blue and green "friend" tag...well, it is a bread clip! I used my alcohol inks to pretty it up and voila, a great tag. You might also recognize the green polka dot paper...it is actually some of the packaging that comes with the Papertrey Ink stamp sets. I saved it and knew some day I'd use it. Since I was "recycling" I decided that today was the day! Supplies: Cardstock-Basic Black (SU!), Green (unknown), polkadot (PTI packaging); stamps-Faux Ribbon (PTI), Ink-Basic Black (SU!), Accessories-bread tag, alcohol inks lettuce and stream (Ranger), ribbon (unknown), designer label punch (SU!), marker (Zig). Framed Flowers

Over at Daring Cardmakers, the end of year challenge is actually 4!! They have picked the 4 best challenges to try, including "buttons", "ribbons", "and cut" and "frames". Here is one that uses a frame. I recieved the coolest package of KI Memories called Funky Frames and Labels from Rhea at R&R Scrapbooking! I love all the different colors and shapes that are included on the sheet. I used a pink one on THIS card. Here, I've picked this awesome light blue oval shape....don't you just love it!! I do. If you've been following my blog at all, you will know that I am trying to use, use, use the stuff I already have! See that flower background, it has been in my "to use" box for a long while now. Do you all have one of those?? You know, a box where you put the bits and pieces of stuff, like the other half of a One Sheet Wonder, a picture you've colored with prisma pencilcrayons and didn't use, etc. My box is quite full, so I am trying to use some of it! This particular background was originally made for THIS , my very first ATC that you can see on my SCS gallery. It is done by stamping the flowers with Versamark and embossing with white then smudging on some chalks (from Stampin' Up) to give it some color. I also had some images of this bee that I got from my SU demo a very long time ago. I colored him in using my SU chalks in yellow, brown and blue. Then I added some Waterfall Stickles to make his wing all glittery!! The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Green Thumb set stamped on white with Chocolate Chip ink. I like the overall look of the card. I really do love the Carte Postale set (SU) and find I use it over and over again! Thanks for visiting!!

Daring Cardmakers Challenge - Where the Wild Things Are

Happy Saturday! I love Saturdays because I can always find a few minutes to do some stamping!

This card is made for the Daring Cardmakers Challenge - Where the Wild Things Are for Friday October 12. Obviously the theme is Animals and once I read that I knew exactly what animal I would be using. You see, I love giraffes! When we were on our family vacation to California, my husband laughed because he says I took more photos of the giraffes at the Wild Life Park than anything else, including Disney Land. LOL!!

To make this card, I took this image from In the Wild (SU) and stamped it onto glossy cardstock. Then, using a sponge, I covered the giraffe itself with Summer Sun (SU) and also made a bit of a sun in the top left using this color. Then, I took Pumpkin Pie (SU) and sponged all around the giraffe. I added a the sentiment using some foam letter stamps that I got from Michael's for $1.50. A few black brads and the main image was done. I matted it on black and then on some Karen Foster design paper called "Shades of Yellow". Then, I matted all of that on this cool weaved material that I got from my local scrapbook store. It is so cool and I thought it pulled all the elements of this card together. The card base is So Saffron (SU).
