Whatevers Round 2 -6 (Journal Page)

Hello.  I am back.  I have taken a VERY LONG vacation from uploading to this blog but now I am back.  And, as you will notice, I have shifted, yet again, my passion.  These days I have been dabbling in art journaling.  I love it and it allows me to work through and manage the stress of a busy life.  I still do some scrapbooking and the occasional card, but I will likely be posting about art journaling more than anything else.

 

Today, I am uploading this page I created for the Whatevers Round 2 #6.  If you have not heard about it you need to go check out Nat Kalbach's blog and read about it.  I think it is a lot of fun and have played along before but never uploaded until now. 

 

 

Had so much fun on this page.  Started out with splats of distress stains, added script stamping, then lemon zest ink spray from Dylusions. Added some modelling past over the Mini Tiny Circles stencil by Balzer Designs.  The stencil had leftover red ink on it which ended up making a cool colour pattern on the modelling paste!.  A bit of brown distress ink and some turquoise paint splatters finished off the background.

 

 

All of the additional paper embellishments are from a Kaiser Craft package called Tigerlilly.  I also added some strips of fabric that had white gesso added.

Computer Genius (Scrapbook)

Welcome back!  Dropping in to share another layout.  I must say, I am enjoying getting back into scrapbooking SO MUCH!!  I am sleeping better at night too - which is always a bonus.

 

One of the scrapbookers who is really inspiring me is Shimelle.  This layout was made in response to her challenge - to use fabric on a layout.  See that apple print ... it is fabric!  The colours were perfect for this layout about my son building his own computer! 

 

 

I used my new Mr. Heuy's blue mist, so popular these days.  However, I've got to say, I am not keen on the all white background.  I tried it here ... and not all that happy with the final results.

Crafty Creations Challenge #178 - Free For All

This week's Crafty Creations Challenge #178 is a Free For All.  Gotta love it when there are no restrictions.  The only need this week was to use one of the adorable images provided by our sponser Kindy Garden.  I chose to work with this cute little dancer.  While my initial desire was to colour her pink, I restrained myself and decided to go with orange ... for something different.  I used my new Bic Mark Its from my current Secret Sister (so cool - thanks sis!)

Home-made Rubber Stamps #2 - Chevron

If you were here yesterday you will know that I have been playing around with making my own stamps.  I first saw it on Godelieve's blog who is taking a course from Julie Baltzer. 

Here is my second attempt ... actually a bunch of different styles of chevron. I don't own a chevron set so I thought this would come in handy.  You should see all the great cards I created with it!

Here is one example:

This particular Chevron I call "chevron stitched".  I thought it kinda looked like a jean pocket ... which reminded me of this star I had made out of some old jeans.  I think the end result is real rustic looking.  This card would be great for a young boy or teenager.

Tomorrow will be my Crafty Creations Challenge but then I'll be back on Thursday with some more cards using some of the other Chevron stamps I created!  One might just be a Christmas card!!

You Rock!

I Love this stamp set from Stampendous.  It is called Rock Out and perfect for a mom of a guitar player. In fact, this is exactly what my sons guitar looks like.  I stamped the image onto the white cardstock and then colored the black portion using my black Copic marker.  I added some silver with my silver Sukura pen and then covered the main part of the guitar with glossy accents.  It looks so cool in real life (sadly doesn't really show the shine in this photo). 

I stamped the rest of the white panel with some stamps from t!m holtz's Bitty Grunge (Stampers Anonymous) set and the stars are from the addition set to Out on a Limb (Papertrey Ink).  I added a bit of silver dry embossed metal (actually it is a piece of coke can, cut, cleaned, and then run through my Cuttlebug with the Distressed Stripes folder).   As well, I added the star that I hand cut from a pair of old jeans and then sewed around the edges with my sewing machine.  The whole lot got adhered to a Kraft card base.

I think it rocks!!  Can't wait to give this to my wonderful son ... a card to let him know how much I think of him!!

Deb Corder's Birthday Card!

You might have been over at Deb Corder's blog before, especially if you love vintage and collage.  She rocks at it!  And she is a super sweet person!!  So today is her birthday and a few of her friends decided to get together and surprise her with a birthday hop!!   So if you have arrived here from KELLY's blog you are on the right track.  If you have arrived her accendently, you will want to go to the start at JOANNA's blog.  For Deb's card, I wanted to create something she will appreciate. So, since her favorite color is green I decided to go with that combined with brown.  I found this "moo" (which is 1.5" x 3") that I had made a long time ago.  I thought it would be perfect for Deb's card as it was a bit on the collage side!  I added it to the alcohol inked background, did some sponging and added this rustic ribbon.  Some supplies: Stamps - Text Boxed (Papertrey Ink); Paper - glossy cardstock, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi (Stampin' Up!); Other - vintage girl (freebie from somewhere a long time ago!), leaf cut from fabric in my scraps, buttons (Hero Arts I think), brown ribbon (Stampin' Up!), alcohol inks (Ranger), dimensionals.

Loonie Stamper's Challenge - #106 - Fabric

The latest Loonie Challenge is to use fabric.  Well, I just happen to have acquired a ton of great fabric scraps and also recently purchased a package of K&Co. fabric so this is a perfect excuse to get off my duff and actually use it! 

I started out with the flower.  A few days ago I had made THIS card using pink and green reinker inks.  Not wanting to waste anything, I took the left over pink and green ink and brushed it onto a piece of scrap cardstock.  I used this scrap today (see me trying to be better at using my scraps!) by stamping this lovely flower (smARTworks), a waterlily I would say, onto the paper.  I mostly got the pink part of the paper but the tips of the middle petals have a bit of green on them.  Then, I picked this green and white fabric (K&Co.) to combine with the pink color.  I adore pink and green together (as you can see on the card that I posted where these colors of ink originated).  The little strip of pink at the bottom is also the painted reinker scrap and I stamped this swirl border (Stampology) on it.  The black under the flower is some True Black twill (Papertrey Ink) and the sentiment is from the Birthday Basics set (Papertrey Ink). 

Okay, now what did those loonie ladies do with fabric ... I can't wait to find out:

Embellish Magazine - Fabric

The most recent challenge going on at Embellish Magazine is to use FABRIC. Yikes, I don't have much of that laying around so I had to really look for something. I found an old blue canvas bag that I recieved as part of being at a conference. Truth of the matter is I will never use the bag ... so I cut it up and cut out this circle!! LOL!! The colors are also very bold and bright, not my typical style so this took some work!

The making of this CAS card is pretty straight forward. I did some blue doodling lines around the green square to tie it all toghether and finish it off.

Supplies: Stamps - Scattered Showers (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Kraft, Garden Green , white(Stampin' Up!); Ink - Pure Poppy (Papertrey Ink); Other - Circle Die (Spellbinders), Cuttlebug, dimensionals, blue marker.

Hubby's Sympathy Card

Yes, this is a very sad day. You see, my husband's favorite shirt finally wore out!! Yup, can't be worn any longer and he was terribly broken up about it. He threw it out in the garbage but I secretly pulled it out and snatched a small bit of it....cause I KNEW I had to make a card out of it!!

I have used removable glue on the sentiment so that I could initially give it to hubby as a sympathy card for his shirt. Inside temporarily reads "We are so sorry about your loss. Time will heal the pain. Remember the good memories". At first he didn't get it and then it made sense and he had a great laugh!!

The sketch follow's Beate's Weekend Sketch #37. I will replace the sentiment with a Happy Birthday as this will make a great masculine birthday card!!

See, you never know what beauty lies in your garbage :-)

\What do you get when you cross Roxie, Sharon and Julia??

Well, you get an awesome card!!

I decided to play with Roxie's sketch challenge #162 tonight. But I also wanted to play along with Sharon's Stamp Simply Challenge #20 - Pretties. Then I realized that the card also fit with Julia's Ways To Use It Challene 141!

So, what's a girl to do but combine the three!

Roxie's challenge is pretty straight forward...see the sketch, that's it!! :-) If you haven't participated in a sketch challenge, you really should. They are a ton of fun!!

Julia's challenge asked us to use stitching on our card. I love to pull out my sewing maching and put some stitching on a card. It makes the card feel more soft and warm...just my opinion!! I knew that the stitching would go great with the fabric I was planning to use!!

For Sharon's challenge, she asked us to pull out our pretties and use them on a card. See that fabric...that's my pretty!! I've had it for almost a year now...saw it in a scrapbooking store and loved it instantly but have never gotten around to using it (it was just too pretty and I'm into hoarding the pretty stuff). I also have some other pretties on here too. The flower is a vanilla Bazzill Basics flower...only use them on very special cards!! And see that hat pin, just found those in a craft store in Calgary!! My first time trying such elegance on a card!! And, see all the designer paper...well, that is K&Company stuff!! I love their paper, truely elegant and beautiful! I have a hard time using it (the hoarding thing again) but I made myself pull it out and use it!!

Daring Cardmakers Challenge - Where the Wild Things Are

Happy Saturday! I love Saturdays because I can always find a few minutes to do some stamping!

This card is made for the Daring Cardmakers Challenge - Where the Wild Things Are for Friday October 12. Obviously the theme is Animals and once I read that I knew exactly what animal I would be using. You see, I love giraffes! When we were on our family vacation to California, my husband laughed because he says I took more photos of the giraffes at the Wild Life Park than anything else, including Disney Land. LOL!!

To make this card, I took this image from In the Wild (SU) and stamped it onto glossy cardstock. Then, using a sponge, I covered the giraffe itself with Summer Sun (SU) and also made a bit of a sun in the top left using this color. Then, I took Pumpkin Pie (SU) and sponged all around the giraffe. I added a the sentiment using some foam letter stamps that I got from Michael's for $1.50. A few black brads and the main image was done. I matted it on black and then on some Karen Foster design paper called "Shades of Yellow". Then, I matted all of that on this cool weaved material that I got from my local scrapbook store. It is so cool and I thought it pulled all the elements of this card together. The card base is So Saffron (SU).
