Papertrey Ink Blog Hop - January - Birthday Card

Yes, time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop! If you haven't played before, you will have to consider it for next month. Every release part, Nichole posts a Blog Hop challenge on the Papertrey Ink site. We prepare our cards and post on the 25th of the month! And then, we spend the evening hopping around on everyone else's blog to see what they made. You can check HERE for others who are blog hopping tonight. Okay, on to my card. Tonight, we were asked to make a birthday card. It might sound easy...but I've got to tell you, I find it even easier to do a challenge when there are more limitations or guidelines to follow. But, I did my best and came up with this card.

I decided that I wanted to use some sets that I've been neglecting! So I pulled out my First Fruits set and used that awesome design strip. I stamped it in Aqua Mist onto some Select White paper. Then, I added a piece of Aqua Mist satin ribbon. For those of you who hate to tie bows...I hear you becasue I used to feel the same way. But I've descovered that the best way to get better is to actually do it!! HERE and HERE are some great video's that I've watched over and over to help out! Those ladies really know what they are doing!!

Next, I used this 'in flight' bird with Chocolate Chip ink and cut it out. On a piece of Kraft cardstock, I drew a flight line with a pencil, did some piercing, and then erased the pencil line. Then I added the bird using some dimensionals. I added a sentiment (inside reads...that it is your birthday) as well using more Chocolate Chip ink.

A simple card but a great birthday card.

Loonie Stamper Challenge #24 - Bling

Well looky looky, I actually got a chance to play with this week's Loonie Stamper Challenge. It has been a LONG time since I was able to play....way before Christmas!! But Maria picked bling...so how could I refuse??!!

I started out using my Faux Ribbon stamp set from Papertrey Ink to make this wonderful bottom. It is lots of fun to make Christmas cards and packaging like THIS one I made last year. You might have seen THIS card more recently by Niki who also did a tutorial.

Next, I added some Sweet Blush twill to the top of the home-made paper. Then for my Bling...I have these strips of metallic tape writer. YOu know the stuff...it is meant to go into one of those letter punch things...we all had them as kids but they never really worked very well. OUr parents all got mad at us because we would punch our names into the black strips and then peel the backing and stick it onto our "things". Well, at least I remember my mom giving me trouble for it!! Anyway, they are the latest trend in scrapbooking and crafting these days. In fact, you can see THIS awesome layout by Kim Crawford which has been chosen as a finalist in the Dymo contest.....on her post you can find the link to go vote for her entry if you want!!

Anyway, I have hte strips but not the machine to go with it (don't ask!!) but I've been dermined to find a way to use these strips. So, I took the pink strip and used my mini heart punch to make some metallic and blingy hearts!!! It is hard to tell that they are pink and blingy in the main picutre so I took this other picture with the light shining into the hearts! See, they are pink and metallic in color -- my bling :-)

Now you have to go see what the other loonie girls did!!

KWerner Color Challenge #39

Can you believe that this is the first time I've actually gotten to try a color challenge by Kristina Werner??!! Well, it is. Her blog is one of my favorites and I check out the color challenge every week but I just never seem to be able to get the idea, make the card, and upload it in time.

Well, tonight I saw the colors for challenge #39 and I just HAD to give this one a go!!

So, if you can't read the colors, they are...basic black, real red, so saffron, whisper white, and green galore (or another green). Well, I stayed true to the colors. And don't you LOVE that picture!!

I started out with these awesome flowers from the Garden of Life set by Papertrey Ink. I had stamped them onto black cardstock with white craft ink! Cut them out using my coluzzle. Then, I wanted to use panels of the colors. I cut each color to size, then doodled around each one...one of my all time favorite things to do!! Then, added the circled flowers and a sentiment. Finished it off with some black and white gingham ribbon! I kinda like it!! I wonder what it would have looked like on a black card base instead of white??? Mmmmm, might need to give that a try!

Sympathy for a Co-Worker

I made this sympathy card for my co-worker. I wanted to make sure there was lots of room for everyone on the team to sign so I made the pull out card. The base is Plum Pudding cardstock and the inside card and the focal image are stamped onto Vintage Cream, both from Papertrey Ink. I added some Plum Pudding satin ribbon to keep the card closed.

I love the Out on a Limb set from Papertrey Ink. It is just one of those versatile sets that can be used for so many purposes!! Other sets include Birds of a Feather and Garden of Life (sentiment), both from Papertrey Ink as well. The branches are stamped with Spring Moss ink and the flowers are added with Lavender Moon and Plum Pudding, all Papertrey Ink colors!! The bird and sentiment are stamped with Basic Black from Stampin' Up! I really like how this turned out! I hope it brought my co-worker some peace when she needed it and helped her know that we were thinking of her! Thanks for dropping in! Donelda

smARTworks tea party

This time it is Giovana's turn to challenge us for our smARTworks Tea Party. smARTworks - Cheer Filled Sunflowers

Here are more sunflowers!! I love love love this stamp! It comes from smARTworks in a set appropriately called Sunflowers!! :D I randomly stamped this individual stamp all over a piece of white cardstock using StazOn black. Then I colored them in using my Stampin' Up water pencil crayons. Finished them up with a watercolor paint brush. I have an aqua painter but I just feel like I have more control over the amount of water when I use an old fashion brush!! Finished off the card with a chocolate chip mat. Added the sentiment onto a Cuttlebug die and used lots of hemp to tie it on!! I love how hmep makes a card feel so rustic! It really is one of my favorite "ribbons"!! Placed all of this onto a So Saffron card base! What is your favorite flower?? I love sunflowers (obviously) and daffodils. I haven't found a good daffodil stamp I like yet.....anyone seen a good one out there??? Have a great day! Donelda

My very favorite in my garden is my blue flowers!! I decided to go with a blue theme. I started out making the background paper and then added the various elements for the 2 layouts.

Sympathy Rose

I have decided that I should have some sympathy cards on hand. Love this rose image from Garden of Life (Papertrey Ink). The background is also made with a Papertrey Ink stamp set called Guide Lines. It is awesome for making beautiful backgrounds!! And so easy too!! Ribbon is the Berry Sorbet silk variety and just about the nicest ribbon I've ever tied! smARTworks Tea Party #9 - Glittery Creations

So, it was my turn to decide what the challenge was going to be for the 9th smARTworks Tea Party. Boy did I ever have a hard time deciding but I ultimately chose Glitter!! I have a whole bunch of glitter that I never seem to pull out so I thought it would be a good way to get some use of it!!

For this first card I really wanted to use this watch image from the smARTworks set called Watch Trio. Watch images are "in" right now which is why I ordered this set in the first place. In

my mind, I could see a silver watch so I embossed it with silver embossing powder and cut it out. Next, I made the glittery heart. I traced a foam heart onto some light cardboard I have. Then I added a piece of Sookwang tape (this is great stuff and there is lots of fun stuff you can do with it!!) Then, I peeled off the protective coating on the tape and poured red glitter all over it!! Finally, I tied a bit of beading cord around the heart!!

The rest of the card was pulled together easy enough. Some of the detials that make me love this card is the sewing around the red paper, the curve in the black patterned paper piece, and the heart popped up with dimensionals.

Here is the second card I ended up making. I love the look of the flowers. They are actually the flower stamp from the top right set on this page of the smARTworks catalog. It is meant to be used on a domino but I

can't help but use them to make great borders. You can see another example of this HERE on a previous card.

I stamped the domino image repeatedly using my Stamp-a-ma-jig. then, I colored in the flowers with some two-way glue and sprinkled the purple glitter all over it!! I let that dry for a few hours (so I was sure the glitter would stick) and then burnished it with my finger. This ensures it is stuck and actually makes this Jewel Glitter more sparkley. I cut this border out and added it with some black and purple scraps of paper from my pile. Finally, I added the sentiment. I realized that I do not have a "happy birthday" stamp from smARTworks so I had to use one from Papertrey Ink.

Supplies: Stamps - Watch Trio (smARTworks); Ink-Versamark; Paper-Whisper White (Stampin' Up), Pirate Bandana (Sandy Lion), Remember the Moment (Dream Street Papers); Other- silver and white embossing powder, light cardboard, double sided tape (Sookwang), red micro fine glitter (Jewel), beading cord (Bead Party), sewing machine, black thread.

Supplies: Stamps - DD08-Patterns (smARTworks), Birthday Basics (Papertrey Ink); Paper-Whisper White, Basic Black (Stampin' Up!), purple (unknown, maybe Making Memories); Ink - Basic Black (Stampin' Up!); Other - Ultra Fine Glitter (Jewel), two-way glue (Stampin' Up!).

Now you have to go check out all the other Design Team Members' creations!! Dina, Susan, Trish, Peggy, and Giovana ... and DEE joined in the fun too!!

One Sheet Wonder

Everyone once in a while I like to do a One Sheet Wonder. That is where you stamp an entire page randomly and then cut up that page to make various cards. For this One Sheet Wonder, I pulled out a farily new to me Papertrey Ink set called Flower Garden. I colored it in with a watercolor brush and my ink pads. I really like this color combo. It is Cameo Coral, Ruby Red, River Rock and Basic Black!!

Same Cards, Different Colors

I made this gift set a while ago. It was fun to make. I challenged myself to use the same stamps but different colors to make a gift set!! And check out those awesome Maya Road clear flowers beside each of the sentiments. I sponged some of the matching ink on them and let them dry! I think it looks so cool how the darker sentiment shows through behind them.

smARTworks Tea Party #9 - Glittery Creation

Well, it is my turn to set the challenge for our next smARTworks tea party. I had lots of ideas and a hard time deciding what to choose but ultimately, I decided to challenge everyone to use something glittery on your card. Anything glittery will do, glitter, shiny cardstock, bling ... just make sure you have something glittery on your card. :-) Can't you see it... hearts with red glitter, stars with silver foil, flowers with bling, or even snowflakes cut from white shimmer paper.... the ideas are endless. Last of Dina's Birthday Challenges

Note - this is the second of 2 posts on my blog today!! Make sure that you scroll down to see the other entry. Well, this is my entry for Dina's last birthday challenges and I did them all!! Yeah!! They were so much fun!! This time, Dina asked us to case a Design Team member from Our Daily Bread designs. Are you kidding me??!! Have you seen the talent in that team???? It was nearly impossible to ever make a final pick!! And while I saw lots of great cards I finally settled on this beauty by Becca Freeken. While my final card doesn't even measure up, it was a great card to draw some creativity from!! This focal image is actualy made from 2 stamp sets from smARTworks (sadly, I don't actually have any ODBD stamps yet). The cat and butterfly are individual stamps and the grass comes from a different set. I did a lot of masking to create the final image. The sentiment is stamped onto some awesome Memory Box paper!! I love it so much that while I've had the paper since August, I have only made 1 card with it!! I'm such a hoarder!!! But yeah, I actually used it!! And that sentiment, it comes from the smARTworks set called Looking Collage, and it another stamp set designed by Dina herself!! Everyone who sees a card that sentiment LOVES it!! Well, I've probably shared more than you care to read about!! Encouragement - Dina's Challenge #4

So, Dina's fourth challenge out of the five she posted was to make an encouragement card for someone. Well, a wonderful lady from my work has been quitely looking out for me!! So, I decided to make her a card to thank her for being so kind for me and encouaraging her to keep up the great work she is doing!!

This image is so beautiful. And I love it done in black!! I stamped this with StazOn ink onto some alcohol inked glossy cardstock. That is always so much fun to do!!

I added some ribbon, a scallop edge, and a sentiment and a very simple and easy card made for a special person!!

Pink Butterfly with Beads

I made this card a while ago and sent it off to a great freind {hi Jessica}!! I absolutely LOVE this paper!! It is the Ella paper from Cosmo Cricket's Twist and Shout collection. While I am a true Basic Grey lover, Cosmo Cricket is up there too with their fantastic papers!! I stamped the dotted circle border from Papertrey Ink's Borders & Corners {circle} set around the sentiment (Mixed Messages also from Papertrey INk) and then glued pink glass seed beads to every second 'dot' of the border. Jessica said that the beads were still there when she recieved it - all the way to the U.S. I had used Tombo Mono Mulit Liquid Glue. I swear, that stuff could hold an airplane together!! The butterfly is Martha Steward, of course.

Well, the rest of the card is pretty staight forward. I really should go get ready for work as today is my first day back after having a few weeks off. While I know I should feel lucky to get that much time off....it doesn't make going back any easier. It just gets in the way of what I love to do!!!

Dina Challenge 3 - Bee Treat

This is the first of 3 posts for today. Make sure you scroll down to see the other two entries. So here is the card I made for Dina's Third Challenge for her birthday celebration!! This time, she asked us to make a black and white card with a spash of color. When I see challenges to do "black and white" I always think of doing silhouettes. And as I sat trying to figure out what I wnted to do, the same idea came to mind. I decided to go with some stemps and flowers and add this little bee. My splash of color was then obvious - it would be yellow!! So, the card is very simple. I stamped various images of the flowers and stems using black on white cardstock. Then I stamped the bee in black. Then, I added a touch of yellow using my ink and watercolor brush. When I looked at the card...it was just not right... so I added some more yellow along the bottom of the card and blending it lighter as it moved up to the middle of the card. I really like the effect. I hope it is still considered just a "splash" of color. LOL. Dina Challenge 2 - Repeated Birdie

This is the second challenge that Mama Dini (Dina Kowal) gave for her week long birthday celebration! This time she asked us to create a card with a repeated image.

I just couldn't resist using these awesome birds that were actually created by none other than Dina herself!! I love their lines!! I used more Basic Grey dsigner paper and some buttons from my stash to add some dimension and interest. (Hey, did you know that Basic Grey has a challenge blog now?? ...I just found it tonight and can't wait to play with their challenge. I am hoping it will encourage me to actually use the paper instead of just hoard it! LOL).

Dina Challenge 1 - Tend the Little Things

So, January 1st was Dina Kowal's (better known as Mama Dini) birthday and she decided to celebrate...big time!! She is hosting some awesome challenges on her blog and I intend to play along to help her celebrate her special day.

Her first challenge was to make a card using the scraps that were out on your desk at the moment. Well, when I looked at my desk, I had this beautiful green paper from Basic Grey sitting there, some light pink cardstock and a spool of black organdy ribbon. I decided to do somthing 'cute' because I think the pink and green look 'cute' together.

I stamped this little kitten on a piece of watercolor paper and then colored him in with my watercolor pencil crayons. I doubt that there are actually pink butterflies...but how could I resist. Then I added the pink cardstock behind the focal image and scalloped the edge. I adheared this to the green designer paper, added the ribbon, and finally, this cute little sentiment that I got from a special set (I'll share more at a later date).

Twin Birthday

We have twin neices who share a birthday early in the new year. This year I decided to make them similar yet different cards. One of the girls is quite "girly" and likes pretty things. She will even wear a dress! For her card I used red and a flower silhouette. The other girl is more of a tom-boy and enjoys sports. She wouldn't be caught dead in a dress!! LOL. For her, I chose Chocolate Chip ink and kept to a more subtle ribbon.

I hope they like the cards and the enclosed gift cards. However, my husband is struggling to get something written inside of them. Really, what is it about men and birthday cards??!! These cards are now late!! They would have been on time, or at least close, if he had written in them and mailed them last week when I had gotten them done...but now they are late!! sheesh!!!!

Happy New Years!!

Happy New Years!! Well, this isn't a new years card but it is bright and shiny and I figured it might work just as well. I made this a while ago for the Casual Mid Week Challenges (CMWC) on the Papertrey Ink Forum (#25 and #26). Like usual, I never got around to actually uploading it! The blue paper on this is the Night Sky Shimmer Cardstock from Papertrey Ink. It is just amazing in real life, and like anything shimmery, impossible to capture in visual form. The background paper is some glossy patterned paper that I found on sale at my lss. Intersting stuff, but tricky to use. The star is cut from chipboard and embossed with silver embossing powder, like the moon, stars, and sentiment. Anyway, I hope you all have a great New Years and that 2009 brings good health and happiness to you and yours. Sketch Challenge 209 - Hello Friend

Well, this is my second post for today and my last post for 2008.

Since I am home all week, I am trying to do all of the SCS challenges this week. Just for fun (what else). During my regular life, I never seem to be able to get them done (actually I think it is really because I spend so much time blog surfing!! )

I pulled out a few Papertrey Ink stamps, paper, and ink to create this card based on Roxie's sketch.

I started out making the focal image panel (4). I stamped the flowers and stems first. Then, on a scrap of white cardstock, I stamped the humming bird and cut him out. I adheared him to the panel and then matted this on some coordinating cardstock. Next, I created the background panel (2) using Guide Lines. This set is amazing for making beautiful backgrounds that totally match your focal image. Finally, I created the third element where I placed my sentiment.

This took me a while to actually get pulled together. It didn't help that I started out with an increadible idea for a card using one of my smARTwork stamps...but it wouldn't "fit" into the layout once I was done. But you will definately be seeing that attempt on another card in the coming days!!

Old Guy Cards

So these are some of the most fun cards I've made!! My husband loves this clothing company called Old Guys Rule. They make hats, t-shirts, and stickers along with some other novelty items. So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw that they had come out with a scrapbooking line of papers and stickers.

I took the stickers and adhered them to some light cardboard. This way, they were like chipboard pieces. Then I started making some cards.

I think this long card is my favorite! It is home to the company's main logo. It says "Old Guys Rule Aged to Perfection". I added various circles on the blue paper (just like the card above) and also added some masculine feeling stripes to the gray paper.

The last card used the designer paper and one of the sticker "chipboard" pieces I created. I did a little altering of the sticker to read properly for the birthday card. A bit of doodling, sponging, and some string and, voila, a great masculine birthday card!!

So, what do you think?? Is there a guy in your life that might appreciate recieving one of these cards?? I sent one to my older brother...he didn't think it was too funny!! Hahahaha!! I love it!!
