Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #2 - Vellum Sentiment Strip

I finally had time to create my card for this week's Make It Monday #2, Papertrey Ink's newest challenge! This week we were to create a vellum sentiment strip.  I decided to pull out Garden Of Life since it is an all time favorite of mine and I haven't used it for a while!

I started out stamping the solid rose with Sweet Blush and then the outline with Hibiscus Burst.  I then layered the Aqua colored vellum over the bottom of the flowers and added the sentiment with white embossing powder (Spiral Bouquet stamp set).

I had just dried a piece of seam binding that I had spritz with some Glimmer Mist (Electric Blue and Silver Sugar) and noticed how well it went with the vellum.  Tied it in a bow and added it on top.  Then, some aqua rhinstones for some bling and shine.

I love the look of the vellum strip as you can still see the flowers behind it!  A great way to add a sentiment but not loose the stamping or designer paper in behind!

Off to see what everyone else did with this challenge.

Make a Moo or Two - Romance

Okay, so I am falling back into my old habits!!  I had created these Moos for the Moo or Two challenge Romance but am just getting around to posting them now ... and the challenge is done.  But it is okay becuase they were fun to create  anyway.

Started with a background made with Fire Brick red distress ink and maybe some Walnut Stain in there too (Ranger).  Stamped the word LOVE diagnally across the backgrounds (from Wedding Day, Papertrey Ink) and sponged around the edges.   Then, I cut out 2 hearts from vellum and sewed them to the moos with brown thread.  These will be added to my stuff bins ... and will be used ... eventually on cards :-)

The next challenge is up so I'm off to see what it is....

You Rock!

I Love this stamp set from Stampendous.  It is called Rock Out and perfect for a mom of a guitar player. In fact, this is exactly what my sons guitar looks like.  I stamped the image onto the white cardstock and then colored the black portion using my black Copic marker.  I added some silver with my silver Sukura pen and then covered the main part of the guitar with glossy accents.  It looks so cool in real life (sadly doesn't really show the shine in this photo).

I stamped the rest of the white panel with some stamps from t!m holtz's Bitty Grunge (Stampers Anonymous) set and the stars are from the addition set to Out on a Limb (Papertrey Ink).  I added a bit of silver dry embossed metal (actually it is a piece of coke can, cut, cleaned, and then run through my Cuttlebug with the Distressed Stripes folder).   As well, I added the star that I hand cut from a pair of old jeans and then sewed around the edges with my sewing machine.  The whole lot got adhered to a Kraft card base.

I think it rocks!!  Can't wait to give this to my wonderful son ... a card to let him know how much I think of him!!

Edited to add:  This post has recently been added to the Going Green Crafters and Artists site.  You can check it out HERE!

Have a great day!

OLW41 - Christmas

Okay, so Susan R. has gone bonkers and has given us the challenge to make Christmas cards!  The good thing is that I have told myself I will create cards all year long to avoid the Christmas card creation stress.  So, I pulled out a stamp set this morning and created this!  Using the "sweet spot".

Stamps - Made of Snow (Papertrey Ink) colored with Copic markers.

Pretty CAS, right!

Now I'm off to work. Have a great day!

Valentines

Eeek, how did the days leading up to Valentine's get away from me.  I guess it is because we were really busy.  Anyway, here are a bunch of valentines I created.  Almost all of them use images and elements that come from my scrap bins!!
This squirrel image is from smARTworks.

This growing plant is also from smARTworks. And see the hearts on the brown piece of cardstock, they are embossed with clear embossing powder.

This grid card was tons of fun to create.  The heart image is an old one from Stampin' Up!  I had stamped off about a hundred of them a number of years ago so I decided to use a bunch up.  Cut 9 out and sponged around the edges with tea dye distress ink.  then I adhered them to 9 squares of white cardstock that were stamped with text using more tea dye distress ink.

This next card was also a scrap card... I used up this cardboard heart shape that I had stamped up last year!  Added a few strips of brown cardstocks and did a bit of faux stitching.  I think you could use this card for either a masculine or a feminine card.

This next card was lots of fun to make.  The sponged piece was also sitting in my scrap bin waiting to be used.  It had been created using a t!m holtz mask.  I simply added the sentiment, white silk ribbon, and glitter butterfly.

I love this very Clean and Simple card!  Just colored the crayon image with red watercolor pencil crayons and then, using a real red crayon, wrote on my sentiment!!

The main panel on this last card was something I created a few years ago, a decorated paper bag - and now I am "repurposing" it for a card. I strategically cut the branches and words to fit a card front, added some brown cardstock along the top and bottom as well as some lovely brown ribbon. Added it all to a card base and, voila, new life!!

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!!

Scraps!!!

Edited: This post was supposed to go up on Saturday to give you all something to look at while I was away for a short family holiday this weekend.  Seems that when I schedule a post in blogger it sometimes changes it to a draft!  Sheesh!  So, here is the post for you to enjoy now

Hey everyone.

I am away from my craft desk for a few days so I thought I'd leave you with these photos.  You know how I am always talking about using some of my many scraps.  Well, I thought it would be humorous to share with you just how many I have.

Here are 3 of my "bins".  At one time they were all in that one large clear bin but I couldn't find anything so I decided to seperate them.  The large bin continues to hold big sized pieces, usually backgrounds that I have started or made that I have not used.  You can see the brown scrap background - so fun to make and use and also some backgrounds that were made using Distress inks (blue/green and red).

In the shoebox (top right) you will see a whole bunch of images I have stamped and some are even colored with ink or Copics.  Se ethe house mouse, one of the images from Autumn Abundance colored and waiting to be used, and you can see how high the pile is ... there are so many images in here!!

And then see that hexigon-shaped box .. that is where I keep my die cuts.  There are a bunch of ovals, scallops, Die 1 and 2 (all from Nestabilities) in there in various sizes and colors but especailly the larger sizes.

Now this seperate box of stuff is actually my favorite bin to look through. It is filled mostly with smaller sized items.  Some are just punched circles or some of the smaller die shapes (see that cork on the right edge cut with the Labels 2 die).  But others are things or embellishments I have created!!  See the denim star!!  and look in the right top corner, there is a speech bubble made out of felt that says "happy birthday friend".  There is a little mini pink envelop on the top left corner and beside that is a strip of scarlet jewel felt that has been sewn so it looks kinda like ribbon.  If you were to be able to get your hands down in there you would find embossed coke can material, leather that has been die cut in the shape of leaves (you can just see a bit of an oak leaf in the bottom right corner), rosettes made from torn paper, sentiments that are stamped on small tags with a ribbon attached, and many, many other goodies.   Sometimes I just like to dump this box onto my craft desk and "see" what looks good together as the pieces all fall beside each other.  It is a great way to "think outside the box" (pardon the pun!) and put items and colors together that I would never think of otherwise!

Well, I hope you found some interest in my little "tour".  What do you do with the bits and pieces that you start and don't end up using????????

Have a great weekend.

Buttons, Buttons ... Home-made Thomas Kinkade Button

So today over at Papertrey Ink (Nichole Heady's blog - see the link at bottom right of my blog) they are showing off their great new idea ....Buttons!!  Are you kidding me????  Brilliance!!!

To enter to win, Nichole wanted us to create a project with buttons.  Well, this is my card.  There is a lot of "old items" used up on this card.  Let's see....

I guess the first thing is the button.  I had a Thomas Kinkade calendar that was beautiful.  Once it was finished, I was looking at it before ...gasp ... throwing it away.  I noticed on the back of the cover there were SMALL scale photos of each page ... perfect to add to cards or something ... so of course I kept it!!  Then I saw some awesome buttons on Jenni Bowlin's site that were made from "pictures" and realized that my small scale Thomas Kinkade pictures would be perfect for this.  So I punched out a good piece of one image and then added 2 small holes in the middle and finished it off with some hemp.   Here is a close up ... see those cute little swans swimming in the lake??!!

On this card there are some other "interesting" itmes.  See the pale colored circles ... well they are the color of linen a "newish" color of Papertrey Ink.  Well, I don't actually own any of that color but I did snag some of the packaging from my last PTI order.  And then there is the ribbon.  That I cut off a sweater this morning, LOL!!  You know, those ribbons they sew into sweathers so you can hang them.  Well, I don't hang sweaters so I just cut the ribbon out.  It was a nice ivory color but that didn't go with my creation so I simply used one of my Copic markers to make it match my project!!  Yeah!!

Staying true to my New Year's resolution ... use what I have, use up my scraps and pieces of projects I've created.  Maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture of what I have left to use up!!  LOL!!  You will laugh .. trust me :-)

Okay, now I have to get my son up, showered and off to school ...

PTI Color Combo - Polka Dots

Another challenge was given over on the PTI site today.  I created this card before leaving for work this morning but was too busy all day to get it uploaded until tonight!!

The color combo I picked was Michelle Wooderson's colors: Aqua Mist (my all time fav color of PTI), Sweet Blush, Harvest Gold and Simply Chartreuse.

Started otu with a rectangle of each color's cardstock and heat embossed white polka dots (Polka Dot Basics II, Papertrey Ink).  then I adhered them to a Kraft cardbase.  I added the Aqua Mist satin ribbon (PTI) and a half Labels One die (Spellbinders) with a simple sentiment (Round and Round, Papertrey Ink).

I'm loving the polka dots!!
Thanks for dropping by!!

Simply Less Is More Challenge #1 - Pink, Black, and White

Hi everyone.  Today was a bummer for me since I don't live in contentinal USA so I couldn't enter into the PTI draw.  So instead I decided to play along with a NEW challenge blog.  Mandi and Chrissy have started the Simply Less Is More challenge blog.  This week's challenge #1 is a color challenge: Pink, Black, and White!  I thought all night of what I could do ... and then did something totally different this morning before leaving for work.

Here is my Clean and Simple card.  The butterfly is from the Hero Arts set called Antique Engravings and the sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's 2010 anniversary set called Round and Round.

The pink paper is from Stampin' Up (can't recall the name) but I realized that one of my few Copic markers (YR00 Powder Pink) is the perfect match so I used it to color in my butterfly.

A real Clean and Simple card for a real clean and simple friend??!!  :-)   Off to see what everyone else did with this color combo!!

PTI Make It Monday - Go To Sentiment Card

A new feature to come to the PTI world and Nichole Heady's blog is the Make It Monday series.  One of the Design Team or Nichole will be showing a technique video!  Every week!!

Today Erin Lincoln demonstrated this sentment card. Kinda reminds me of Susan R's One Layer Wednesday challenge a few weeks ago!!

Black card base, white focal piece, Aqua Mist torn cardstock at bottom (probably my favorite  PTI color!).  Large Star is traced onto Itty Bitty Dots paper in more Aqua Mist.  Stars are from Around & About Sentiments.  The birthday wishes are from the following sets from top to bottom: Demask Designs, Rustic Brnaches, Around & About Sentiments, Round and Round, Paper Tray, Birthday Basics, Birthday Basics .. all, of course, from Papertrey Ink!

It's been fun so far at PTI.  Can't wait to see what Nichole has in store for us tomorrow!

PTI Anniversary Tag - Melissa Bickford and Group shot

Papertrey Ink is having their Anniversary Bash and to celebrate their designers have created free tags that can be downloaded. And, in true PTI form, Nichole is giving away a great prize to one random entry!! Go to her blog to see all the details!!

I decided to use the images to make 3x3" cards. This is the first of 7 (I didn't use 2 of the tag images as I ran out of time).

This tag was created by Melissa Bickford.  Her images are always so FUN!  I colored her image in with Copics and then added some blue glitter onto the clouds.  I made a fun background by using the same Copics used in the rainbow and drawing diagonal lines.  The black is the perfect to make it POP!!

This is the first of 7 posts I made; each one using a different free lable by one of the PTI designers.  I didn't use the one by Nichole Heady or Beth Silaika mostly because I don't have a circle punch the right size and also becuase I ran out of time!!

Make sure you check out all of my 3x3 cards.  Here is a group shot of them all!  What a fun morning!  Now I'd better go get some stuff done.  Thanks for dropping in today!

This card was super simple to create.  Colored the pinwheels with PTI ink (Summer Sun and Ocean Tides) using a blender pen.  The designer paper is from Pretty Pastels (PTI) and I added some Summer Sun and Aqua Mist (PTI) cardstock one cut with a Spellbinders scallop square.  A few mini brads (Queen & Co.) and dimensionals and the little card was done.

This is the 2nd of 7 posts using these great free tags.  Check them all out!!

Favorite Papertrey Ink Project of 2010

(Note: if you are looking for Linda and my 2nd image challenge scroll down as this is my second post today!)

Over at Papertrey Ink, they are celebrating their anniversary.
This happens every February (which is the month that Nichole Heady started the company) and Nichole always has lots of FUN posts, challenges, and oppotunities to win some of the wonderful PTI products.

Today, she has asked us to pick our favorite PTI creation that we made in 2010.  What??!!  How am I supposed to pick just one??  But I did in the end and decided on this pretty card that I had made for one of Kristina Werner's challenges.    I also like THIS card I made and like to focus on my masculine card making skills but in the end, this doily favoite won out!

You should pop over to Nichole's blog and see all the fun going on!

Linda's Challenge #2

Hello and welcome to Linda and my 2nd challenge to use the same image to create a card.  You can see the results of our first challenge HERE.

Today's card uses this awesome lighthouse image from Cornish Heritage Farms (sadly it is retired and this company is no longer!!)

To create the card I started out making that interesting background with scrap pieces of designer paper.  I then used my Labels 2 (Nestabilities) to cut it out.  Then, I stamped the lighthouse image and cut it out with an oval die (Nestabilities) and colored it in using my inks and a watercolor brush.   Some crochet yarn and a small sentiment tag (Mixed Messages, Papertrey Ink) and this clean and simple card is finished!

This style that I used is quite a bit different than Linda's typical beauties!!  I can't wait to pop over to Linda's blog and see what she did with this image.

Thanks for dropping in.

Wishing you the best

ETA - don't forget to drop back in on Saturday to see what image Linda and I decided to use for our second challenge!!

I love how this card turned out!  It was a card designed to use up
some scrap pieces that have been hanging around my craft space for a while now.  I had stamped those pink flowers (With Sympathy - Papertrey Ink) a while ago - cool how they create a cluster when stamped in a circle (got that idea from Betsy Veldman).  The leaves were also hanging around from a former project gone astray.  I adhered them to the long tag I tied the satin ribbon (Berry Sorbet - Papertrey Ink) in a hole I had punched at the other end.  A simple sentiment was added (Wishing You ... - Papertrey Ink) in Chocolate chip ink.   I added that to some lovely pink designer paper (Porcelain collection - BasicGrey).  I adhered some more Kraft cardstock along the top edge with a small strip of Chocolate Chip (SU!).  To make a pink visual triangle, I added 3 buttons that match the Berry Sorbet color perfectly.  They came from my general stash of buttons.  Some white floss (DCM) finished them off nicely.  The top of the Kraft piece was rounded and then the whole focal piece was attached to a white card base with dimensionals.

I love this color combo and I am sure to use it again!  And I am proud to be 3 scraps less!!!

Thanks for dropping in.  Thanks to those who take the time to leave comments.  I love to read them and they always make me feel good!!

Have a great day!

Inchie Nuts About You

Happy Groundhog Day.  I don't actually own a groundhog stamp so I thought this squirrel was pretty close.
This cute little squirrel is from the retired Stampin' Up! set called Wildlife Reserve.   The card ended up being very Clean and Simple.
I stamped the squirrel and then colored him with my Copics and colored pencils (Prismacolor).  Then I punched him out with a one inch square.  Next, I punched out 4 other 1" squares and colored 3 of them in with 3 of the Copic colors I had used to color in the squirrel (a pale blue, clay, and light brown).  I left one of the squares white.  Lined the squares up on the card.  The 4 colored squares are adhered directly to the card and the squirrel is popped up on dimensionals.  I added the sentiment (smARTworks) but now that this is posted I see it is a bit crooked.  Drat, I even used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and everything .. grrrrr!

Drop back in on Friday to find out what image Linda and I decided to use for our second challenge!!!

Have a great day!

Rainbow Card Set

These cards are made with the latest Papertrey Ink Anniversary stamp set.  Each year, PTI offers it's customers the option to receive a free stamp set (never to be sold) if you purchase so much from them.  I have recieved all 3 sets since PTI opened it's doors.  They are ususally great sets and this one is no exception.  Sadly, it did take a while to get it this year so the excitement of recieving it was pretty anticlimatic ... but regardless, it is a great set.

For this card set of 4 I took some scrap white cardstock and colored strips of Copic marker colors to form a rainbow.  Then, I stamped the 4 circle images from the set using Jet Black ink from Ranger.  The effect is awesome.  Of course I had to cut the circles by hand because I don't have the right size circle punch ... sheesh!!  The background is created using one of the leaf images from Turning a New Leaf (Papertrey Ink) heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  You can see that there is a similar leaf image in the circle focal images so I thought it would go well.   Some simple sentiments (from 2009's anniversary set Simple Little Things) are stamped on white cardstock and adhered behind the circle images.   The photo I took of the other 2 cards was horrible so you'll just have to get the basic idea with this one photo.  LOL.

Thanks for dropping by my little corner of the www.  Have a great day.

Tone on Tone

I saw THIS card on Kim Hughs' blog.  Her card was inspired by Regina's card as you will see on Kim's post.                                                              I loved the tone on tone and it happens to be one of my favorite layouts so I had to create my own version.  But I couldn't stop at one ... and ended up with 3 quite different versions.
I decided to make my squares smaller and use butterflies (Martha Stewart) and leaves (Punch a Bunch).  The buttons on the butterfly card are from BasicGrey.  The yellow was a bit too bright but a bit of Copic marker colored on it made it the perfect match.  The sentiment comes from Around & About Sentiments (Papertrey Ink) which I can't seem to stop using!!  I even inked up just bits of it to add on this first card.  I've also used the stripes from the Background Basics :Retro (Papertrey Ink) and some text for the leaves (Background Basics: Text Style - Papertrey Ink) on this first card.
Thanks for dropping by my little blogging corner of the world.  Enjoy your day!

Challenge with Linda #1

Hello everyone!  Today is an exciting day.

My blogging friend Linda and I decided to have a little fun on our blogs.  You see, I met Linda in a Secret Sister swap over at SCS.  I was her "big sister" and got to send her a whole bunch of fun things to play with.  Becuase of that, I knew that Linda and I had a number of similar images.  So, I asked her if she would like to have some fun on our blogs, creating cards with the same images.  I LOVE doing this becuase I find it fascinating that you can use the same images and get such different cards.

Now, when you go and visit Linda's blog you will see that she makes the most beautiful layered cards.  She is an expert at coloring with copics and she always uses great colors, beautiful designer paper, and embellishments.  That is quite a bit different from my typical style.  So today, I decided to try to be like Linda :-) and yet keep to my more clean and simple style.

The image (Hero Arts) is colored with Copics.  I added some designer paper (Bitty Dots in Spring Rain, Papertrey Ink) behind my image.  The bottom is some Spring Rain cardstock with some stripes added using my Versamark pen and a ruler.  You might remember I did this HERE a little while ago.  The sentiment is from Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink).  I attached the image with dimensional tape and actually tilted it a bit for some fun.  A bit of ribbon, a button and a pink gem in the girls hair and my card is finished.

Now, off to see what Linda created using this image.  I can hardly wait to see what she did!!   Drop back by next week because we have planned to do this again next week!!

Thanks for dropping in!
