Colour Q Challenge #113 and Make It Monday #43 - Ribbon Pleating

The Colour Q Challenge colours this week are amazing!  I really like Sahara Sand and I'm always trying to find great colours to go with them ... this is it!! 

I decided to combine the colours with this week's Make It Monday challenge #43 from Papertrey Ink - Ribbon Pleating.  I don't think I've ever tried ribbon pleating so I decided to "take it easy" and just do a few pleats like on Dawn's 2nd card in the video. 

Supplies used include Background Basics: Retro and Birthday Basics (both Papertrey Ink), Spring Rain grosgrain ribbon (Papertrey Ink), Sahara Sand, Night of Navy, Whisper White, and other blue cardstock (Stampin' Up!). 

And see, I've used another one of my "home-made" half & half die cuts.  I have had a lot of people ask how I do this.  Nothing magical I assure you.  I simply took some light cardboard, traced some edges of other dies I had with nice curvy edges, made straight edges and cut them out.   Now, if I want a "half & half die" that I don't own (yet - getting them for my birthday) I just trace the outline onto cardstock or patterned paper and cut it out by hand!  More effort but cheaper!!  Here is a photo of the 3 I made ...

This colour combo is going to inspire lots of increadible projects.  I'm off to check it out!!

Make It Monday # 39 - Multi-Stamp Background

I love making my own backgrounds using stamps so I was excited to see Nichole's Make It Monday Challenge #39.  I wanted to do something different than flowers and leaves so I pulled out the set Fruitful.  I also decided to go with an unexpected color combo - Scarlet Jewel, Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise and Spring Moss. 

I created the senitment by combining a sentiment from Birthday Basics (it reads "Hope this day is as special as you are") and then adding the "Sweet and Juicy" using Simple Alphabet!  I like how the start of the sentiment is all neat and tidy but then the second part is lopsided and fun!!  LOL!!

Make It Monday #37 - Layered Mats and Frames

Wanted to play along with this week's Make It Monday challenge #37 - to use layered mats and frames.  Trouble is, I only own 1 Papertrey Ink die (thanks Linda, a great Secret Sister!!).  Regardless, I knew I could be creative!!

I coloured in the small bloom from In Bloom (Papertrey Ink) with a blender pen and Lavendar Moon and Pure Poppy ink.  Cut the frame with Fillable Frames #4 and then the inside with a round spellbinder nestability oval die.  I added some text inside the frame with Background Basics: Text Style (Papertrey Ink).  The sentiment is also from the Fillable Frames #4 stamp set (thanks again to a wonderful Secret Sister, Linda!!).  The background is Hero Arts Decrative Woodgrain. 

This was fun, off to link it up and see what everyone else created!!

Make It Monday - Trigger Tuesday - One Layer Wednesday

Hi Everyone. 

I wanted to play around with some challenges tonight and ... believe it or not ... I actually combined a few.  I usually am amazed at folks who do this but tonight the 3 challenges just kinda fell together.

First off, this delicious looking image, from Moxie Fab World's Trigger Tuesday, got my taste buds flowing.   Then, I was inspired by Nichole Heady's Make It Monday #35 to create some home-made washi tape.  This is a BRILLIANT idea ... I just cannot afford those yummy tapes (only own 1 roll at this point) so making my own is a great option.  And finally, the One Layer Wednesday #67 was to make a Thinking of You card and donate to a cause of their choice.

So the colours and the stripes come from the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger picture.  Yummy!  The strips are some home-made washi tape using Polka Dot Basics II and Background Basics: Stars (both Papertrey Ink).  The apple is from Teacher's Apple (Papertrey Ink).  The sentiment .. making it a "thinking of you" card ... is from Around and About Sentiments (also Papertrey Ink) which I love because you can create small sentiments.   I know the apple is popped up ... which means it is not "technically" a One Layer Card ... but it is close ... certainly close enough for me!!

Off to camp this weekend!  The last outting of the season.  The van will go away until next spring.

Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #25 - Coloring With White Ink

So I couldn't resist playing along with this week's Make It Monday challenge #25 from Papertrey Ink.  Heather Nichols (one of my favorite design team members) showed how she uses white ink to "paint" or color images.  I laid in bed after watching the video and decided that painting with the white ink is fun but adding some color on top would make it even better.  Then I started invisioning some white day lilies with the deep reddish purple color near the center. 

In the end ... here is what I created when I woke up.  I used Beautiful Blooms (PTI) set which is a long time favorite but I don't take it out nearly often enough!!

PTI - Make It Monday #3 - Glitter Strips - Apple Well

This week's Make It Monday #3 on Nichole Heady's blog is to use glitter strips with sco re tape.  Here is my creation -- proudly made with all scraps (with the exception of the card base).  Yup, all those components you see were in my "bin" so I used them LOL!! 

All supplies are Papertrey Ink unless indicated - Stamps: Teacher's Apple, Wedding Day, Vintage Picnic; Ink - Pure Poppy, New Leaf; Paper - Pure Poppy; Other - glitter (Stampin' Up!), dimensionals.

I can't wait to see what this coming MIM #4 is going to be!!

Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #2 - Vellum Sentiment Strip

I finally had time to create my card for this week's Make It Monday #2, Papertrey Ink's newest challenge!This week we were to create a vellum sentiment strip.  I decided to pull out Garden Of Life since it is an all time favorite of mine and I haven't used it for a while! 
 
I started out stamping the solid rose with Sweet Blush and then the outline with Hibiscus Burst.  I then layered the Aqua colored vellum over the bottom of the flowers and added the sentiment with white embossing powder (Spiral Bouquet stamp set). 

I had just dried a piece of seam binding that I had spritz with some Glimmer Mist (Electric Blue and Silver Sugar) and noticed how well it went with the vellum.  Tied it in a bow and added it on top.  Then, some aqua rhinstones for some bling and shine. 

I love the look of the vellum strip as you can still see the flowers behind it!  A great way to add a sentiment but not loose the stamping or designer paper in behind!
