PaperCrafts Magazine CASE - Lindsey's choice

I knew you'd come back!  If you missed yesterday's CASE cards, make sure you go to my post yesterday and check it out.

But today is Lindsey's pick and she chose this stunner by Sarah Jay (on page 22).  She particuarly liked the technique.  Now, there are really 2 techniques here ... the shadowed sentiment as well as the masking.  I opted to use both and keep my card very similar to the original.

However, I decided to go with a different colour combination.

I chose some of my favourite flowers from various Papertrey Ink sets.

and here is a closer up of the shadow sentiment.  To create it, I stamped the sentiment once and then moved the image slightly to the right and stamped again (2nd generational stamping).  The stamp set is from Lawn Fawn.

Okay, now off to see what Lindsay did with this CASE.  I'm always so excited to see what she has created.  And don't forget to leave a link in a comment if you decide to play along with us.

And we are planning to post again next week on Thurs and Fri more CASE cards!  See you then.

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) #81 - Cream, Black, and Bling

Jennifer set this week's One Layer Wednesday (OLW) challenge # 81 to use Cream, Black, and Bling.  Wow - this really stumped me!!  I just don't use cream that often so I kept having a big block ... until I polled out my new-to-me Mehndi Medallion stamp set (Papertrey Ink) ....

You will note that there is 1 black bling (half rhinstone) and 4 other regular rhinstones in the middles of the bigger medallions.

Love this set!!  So worth the $5!

Play Date Cafe #119 and One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Hello

I love a black and white + splash of colour challenges!  This one was certainly no exception!  I decided to combine it with this week's One Layer Wednesday challenge - to use 3 or more stamps on your one layer card.

Here is my first card using a new set of stamps (Happy Spring Day - Inkadinkado).   The butterfly and flower centers were coloured in using a blender pen and some Raspberry Fizz ink (Papertrey Ink).  Love masking!

And my second card, however, as you can see I used different colours and added a border of the word 'friend' from Gracious Vases (Papertrey Ink).

Fun, fun, fun!

Hope you are having a wonderful long weekend.  I know I am!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) #78 and Play Date Cafe 118 - Celebrate Circles

So the latest One Layer Wednesday challenge that Susan R. threw at us was to use "at least 5 circles on a card".  Well at first I was stumped.... but not for long!! And then I got inspired by the colours of the latest Play Date Cafe challenge ....

Here is the card I ended up with ....

Stamped the open circles (Polka Dot Basics, PTI) and filled them in with the Play Date Cafe colours (Broken China, Faded Jeans, and Wild Honey - Ranger).  Check it .. there are 17 circles!!  So there, Susan!!  Haha!! Sentiment is from Think Big Favorites #4 (PTI) with a half rhinstone for emphasis .. the 17th circle!!

There,  that was fun.
Off to see what everyone else came up with ...

Crafty Creations Challenge #156 - Swirly Whirly Owl Greetings

This week I am playing along with my Crafty Creations Challenge friends.  This week Claire is sponsoring with some great Swirly Whirly images for us to use!!  So much fun!!

I paper pieced the owl using some Basics Kraft (BasicGrey) and used Copics on parts.  I also coloured and cut leaves out from a second image and layered them as well.  The branches and little hearts were coloured with Copics as well and I used Glossy Accents on the little hearts to make them shine!

Head over to the Crafty Creations Challenge blog to see what everyone else did with Clair's great images.

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) #77 - Grunge Bird

This week Jennifer is giving us the One Layer Wednesday challenge #77 and wants us to use birds on our cards.  I decided to use this great owl image from Tattered Angels.

I decided to grunge him up and love the effect of putting ink on an acrylic block and then smudging it onto the corners of the card.

Off to link up ...

Another One Layer Wednesday challenge.  This time Susan wanted us to make a one-layer card that uses white, gray, with a pop of one bright color of your choice.

I used a white card base embossed with this lovely embossing, added a strip of grey along the bottom.  It is covered with Glossy Accents (continuing my obsession this month with this product) and the added colour is the blue half pearls (in the photo are looking rather close to the grey colour).

My sentiment is hidden inside.  It just didn't seem to want to go on the outside!

Off to see what others did with this colour combination.

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) 75 - Masculine Birthday

This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge #75 from Susan R. is to create a masculine birthday card.  Easy peasy ... when I need a masculine stamp, I just reach for my Bitty Grunge set from Stampers Anonymous (good old t!m holtz).

And this particular birthday sentiment is always my 'guy' go-to ... it is from Birthday Basics (Papertrey).  It's perfect - bold, strong, and not a feminine serif in sight!!

Embossed in gold makes it stand out on top of the Chocolate Chip ink.

Off to get some more CAS masculine ideas from all the other CAS addicts...

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Red and Pink Only

So Susan's latest One Layer Challenge #74 (a nice even number) is to create a card with red and pink ONLY.  That means no black for the sentiment or outlines.  I've got to admit I thought and thought and thought about what I was going to do.  Then I decided to do this:

I cut out a heart as a mask, stamped the word LOVE (Paper Trey from Papertrey Ink) in red in the bottome right edge of the heart.  Then I continued to add the same word repeatedly using pink ink.  While the difference is not so obvious in this poor quality picture, it stands out better in real life! Sigh!! To make sure the heart shape stood out, I did a little bit of sponging with the pink around the edges of the heart.

Off to post and see what everyone else did with pink and red only.

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) #73 and CASual Friday #31 - Peaceful Mist

I love it when a see a card making challenge and an idea instantly pops into my head!  and it is even better when I see a second challenge and know that the idea will totally fit for both challenges!!

This weeks One Layer Wednesday #73 is to make a card that says peace to us - I instantly thought of a blue sky with puffy white clouds.  Then, the CASual Friday Challenge #31 was to use mists ... well that would totally work!!

Here is my card ...

A nice blue sky with fluffy white clouds floating by ... now that is peaceful!!  As you can see, I really need a bit more practice with the mists.  These are ones from Tattered Angels.  It is mostly blue and I did a bit of pink in the top left corner ... like it is dawn or dusk.

And I thought this sentiment was a bit appropriate!!

Off to see all the other projects!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Variations On a Sentiment

Leave it to Susan R. to create a real tricky One Layer Wednesday challenge #72.  She wants us to use a sentiment and nothing else on a non-standard sized card!  Wow, now that is a challenge!!  At first I pulled out the largest sentiments I have ... but then I got creative and created these:

They are mini scraplings ... 1" x 3" little mini cards.  I keep lots of these small little cards around the office to leave on the desks of my co-workers on their birthdays.  The ones I have at work right now are all girly cards so I was stuck last week when one of our tech guys had a birthday!  These will make great additions to the stash and will be perfect for the guys!!

Thanks Susan for a real challenge, like usual!!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) 70 - Red and White

So, Susan posted the One Layer Wednesday Challenge #70  - Red and White!  It would make sense for this to be a holiday challenge but that was not required ... so I did this ...

Essentially it is a one layer card since there is no extra layer on top of the card!!  The sentiment is stamped ona  white piece of cardstock adhered to the inside of the card.  I almost stamped it in black ... which would have been a 'no no' according to the challenge!!  LOL!!

But in my effort to use up my scraps better, I took the heart and made this card which does have black and a second layer ...

There, valentine cards completed for my boys!!  :-)

Hope you are having a good weekend!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) # 69 - Stripes

I like to try to play along with Susan and Jen for their One Layer Wednesday challenges.  This week, even though she was sick, Jen still posted the challenge -- Stripes.  I had this going around and around in my head.

Made up using 2 great Hero Arts stamps Canvas Stripes and Everyday Sayings.  Colours and sentiment could be easily swapped out for any occassion!

I wonder what everyone else did .... off to see....

Make It Monday - Trigger Tuesday - One Layer Wednesday

Hi Everyone.

I wanted to play around with some challenges tonight and ... believe it or not ... I actually combined a few.  I usually am amazed at folks who do this but tonight the 3 challenges just kinda fell together.

First off, this delicious looking image, from Moxie Fab World's Trigger Tuesday, got my taste buds flowing.   Then, I was inspired by Nichole Heady's Make It Monday #35 to create some home-made washi tape.  This is a BRILLIANT idea ... I just cannot afford those yummy tapes (only own 1 roll at this point) so making my own is a great option.  And finally, the One Layer Wednesday #67 was to make a Thinking of You card and donate to a cause of their choice.

So the colours and the stripes come from the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger picture.  Yummy!  The strips are some home-made washi tape using Polka Dot Basics II and Background Basics: Stars (both Papertrey Ink).  The apple is from Teacher's Apple (Papertrey Ink).  The sentiment .. making it a "thinking of you" card ... is from Around and About Sentiments (also Papertrey Ink) which I love because you can create small sentiments.   I know the apple is popped up ... which means it is not "technically" a One Layer Card ... but it is close ... certainly close enough for me!!

Off to camp this weekend!  The last outting of the season.  The van will go away until next spring.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) - Inspiration from Janelle

So this week's One Layer Wednesday posted by Susan R. is a really different and very special challenge.  Susan has challenged us to be inspired by Janelle, a woman from Susan's home town who has been diagnosed with brain cancer.  Janelle is an inspriation as she faces this challenge in her life ... and we can all be inspired by her!

I chose to use this amazing card as my inspiration - I love the colors and I adore black eyed susans.

Here is my card.

I used Fancy Flourishes (Papertrey Ink) with Versamark ink and Everyday Classics (Papertrey Ink Anniversary set) for the sentiment.  I have had these black eyed susan flowers for a long time but haven't used them.  The little brown frame is from one of those old Stampin' Up packages you could buy that had a bunch of die cuts in them, before dies and punches were as popular as they are today.

I hope you join us in this great challenge!

Thanks for dropping by my blog!  I appreciate your interest and a comment if you have time to leave one.

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) 64 - Pumpkin Thanks

This week is Susan R's turn to host the One Layer Wednesday challenge (#64) and she wanted us to color it!  Well, I can color!  While I've been having a lot of fun with my pencil crayons these days, I decided to use my Copics to color in this simple card.

I tried and tried to get a good photo but the lighting was bad and the end result is just bad!  Sorry!  I was inspired by Pat who created a card with these pumpkins (see HERE) that come from Papertrey Ink's Vintage Picnic set.   It seems we have been inspiring each other a lot these days. :-)

Thanks for taking a peek!!  Off to see all the other OLW cards entered!

One Layer Wednesday (OLW) 63 -- Baby

Susan and Jennifer have resumed their One Layer Wednesdays (OLW)!!  Yeah!!
This week Jennifer challenged us to make a one layer baby themed card.
I hunted through my stash for all things baby and decided upon this Kaisercraft image and a PTI sentiment.

The image was done with a combination of watercoloring with ink and Copics.  I love all the Star Dust Stickles on the moon, star, and clouds.

Off to see what others are creating with their baby stuff!

Take 3 - Week of July 11 - part 1

Here is my new stamp that I decided to make the focus of this week's Take 3.

It comes from the Hero Arts set called Antique Flower Engravings.  It is a leaf and oh so elegant at that.

I wanted to go with something different so decided to use the color challenge offered up by Susan's One Layer Wednesday #58 challenge (a few weeks ago) - turquoise, orange, and yellow.

I added a splash of black!

I hope you are enjoying my Take 3 challenges.  Feel free to let me know what you think!  Make sure you drop by tomorrow for a read different look using this same image.

OLW 59 - Inspiration photo

Susan R has posted this week's One Layer Wednesday challenge # 59 and I just couldn't resist!  It is a great inspiration photo.  Have I mentioned how much I love daffodils??!!

Once I saw the lovely picture I knew I would use this image from Impression Obsession that a blogging friend of mine, Dina from Mama Dini's Stamperia sent me when she heard I loved daffodils and couldn't find a great stamp of them.  Isn't it a beauty and isn't she just the sweetest person ever??!!
So here is my end result.  I found I again struggled to keep it ONE LAYER!!  I always want to use a panel!  This time I stamped the image and colored it with a combo of Copics and Pencilcrayons.  I added the sentiment (from Vintage Picnic, Papertrey Ink) and called it finished.  A true one layer card that will be easy to mail ... whenever the postal strike ends!!
Thanks for dropping by!  Don't forget to come back on Monday for my latest "Take3" cards!!

OLW 52 - Circles

Yup, another One Layer Wednesday .. and I just got this one posted in time.  (I have been away again for work but this should be the last one until next year!!)
I have realized that I love making Clean and Simple cards but getting them to be One Layer is what I find rather difficult!!  So when I heard "circles" I decided to do some masking -- an easy way to create interesting cards and keep it one layer!
To create this card, I punched 1" circles from a large post it note, adhered the sticky note onto a kraft card, then stamped the Designer Woodgrain image (Hero Arts) onto the card.  Then, I sponged on a bit of brown ink to complete the circles!  Also, when I added the post it note, I left a little of the cardstock showing along the bottom to get a base.

A simple sentiment (Around and About - Papertrey Ink) and some red and white baker's twine (Martha Stewart) and this CAS OLW card is complete!!

Thanks for dropping by for a visit!
