Welcome to another Crafty Creations Challenge.  This week's challenge #173 - is to make a wedding or anniversary card.  We were so lucky to have Digital Paper Craft provide us with a bunch of great images.  I saw this church and just knew I wanted to make a shaped card with it. 

In the end, the overall shape remained rectangular, however, I made a gate-fold card with some "shaped" edges.  It is a good size and will be perfect for all of us to sign when our co-worker gets married!!

Lucy's Digital Inspiration - Digital #1 - Friends

Lucy is one of my favourite card makers.  She is amazing with her digital know-how.  And this past week, she has been sharing her secrets!!  Today she announced a challenge "Create a card that features some kind of digital element - paper or stamps.  To be eligible to win the prize, please use a Hero Arts digital product"

Well, it is hard to create a card using a Hero Arts digital product when you haven't bought any .. but then I remembered this freebie Friends Definition from Hero Arts!  I hope that counts! 

While my finished product is rather blahh ~~  I did have fun playing around. 

First I loaded up the definition and then played around with colour and brightness.  Then, I added this coffee cup (free from Market Street) which was printed off on some free digital paper from Tricia Chapman called So Lucky.  I also printed out the heart on some free digital paper from Brandy Buffington called Boho Chic.  I used a bit of the leftover red digital paper for my sentiment flag as well. 

A small bit of stamping (the coffee steam - Fancy Flourishes, Papertrey Ink and sentiment from Round and Round, Papertrey Ink)  a bit of twine (thanks Imke!!) and some Glossy Accents for the heart ... and voila, my first digital hybrid card following some of Lucy's great teaching tips! 

Okay, now I have to go practice ... cause clearly I need more work to make it look good!!  LOL!!

Her big beautiful dress just screamed purple to me!!  I wanted to keep the overall card clean and simple so I just added this great ribbon and flower embellishment.

Crafty Creations Challenge #156 - Swirly Whirly Owl Greetings

This week I am playing along with my Crafty Creations Challenge friends.  This week Claire is sponsoring with some great Swirly Whirly images for us to use!!  So much fun!!  

I paper pieced the owl using some Basics Kraft (BasicGrey) and used Copics on parts.  I also coloured and cut leaves out from a second image and layered them as well.  The branches and little hearts were coloured with Copics as well and I used Glossy Accents on the little hearts to make them shine!

Lawnscaping Challenge - Past Due!

I don't know about you but I think that Lawn Fawn stamps are adorable!  However, I don't own any.  I try to stick to 2 or 3 primary companies ... but it is tough.  There are lots of others who also love Lawn Fawn stamps, and some of those gals run a challenge blog called Lawnscaping Challenge.  Earlier this month, they celebrated their birthday and for the occassion, Melania Deasy created the cutest digital image set to share! 

So I took advantage of the cute images and created this!

... and I think I am currently "hooked" on using glossy accents ... as I've done here on the balloon!

Shaped Card - Valentine Gumball Machine

The challenge over at Our Creative Corner for this week is Shaped Cards.  I adore shaped cards but rarely think to make them ... so I thought I'd give it a go.

I found this awesome digital image in my digital file and went to town!

I used lots and lots of Glossy Accents for the clear part of the machine where all the heart gumballs are ...

and also on the one pink heart at the door of the machine ...

That was a ton of FUN!!  I must remember to make shaped cards more often!!

Dilly Beans 1st Challenge/Giveaway - Holiday Snow Family

Have you seen that there is a new Challenge Blog in town?!  It is Dilly Bean Designers & Friday Challenges.

I have already entered their Stripes Challenge ... you can check my card HERE.  To start off their new blog, they offered a great free digi of this sweet snow family and asked us to use it in a new creation! 

Here is what I did with it.  If you look at the original image, there is a location between the groups of snowmen where I cut them apart and added a holiday greeting between.

Here is a close up of the glitter I added to the hats and the glossy accents on the buttons and heart.

This is such a cute image.  I know I'll be using it more!!

More Kissing Birdies

Yesterday I posted the card I made for the Clean and Simple challenge #100 over on SCS.  When I was trying out the 'kissing technique' I had actually made 5 birds.  The one you saw yesterday and then these 4 more.  Since my New Year's resolution is to use up stuff I decided to take the 4 additional birds and actually make cards with them (instead of dumping them into my 'stuff' bucket to sit for years waiting to be used).  My favorite is the Aqua Mist bird on the woodgrain panel.  All of the bits and pieces are scraps that have been sitting in my 'stuff' buckets!  That lined green frame is actually a digital element and the pink banner is from my former Secret Sister.   A pretty good start on my resolutions!

They are all pretty Clean and Simple and could have worked for the challenge.  Which one do you like best???

Happy New Year 2011

Yaaahoooo!!  It is 2011!  Wow, it is hard to believe that 2010 is finished and we now move in to a fresh new year.  I love the new year.  It feels like a clean slate where you can do anything you want.  I have been thinking of some New Year resolutions (other than my crafting ones which I posted yesterday) and will finalize them today as we take down our Christmas decorations and spend a fun family day together playing games, reading, and generally taking it easy! 

I got up early this morning (6:30 - waaaaay before the boys woke up) so that I could enjoy the Christmas lights in our living room one last time.  It is really one of my favorite things about the holiday season.  It is just so warm and cozy in my big chair with a big blanket over me, enjoying the twinkle of the lights.  I had been browsing a few blogs and remembered that I had downloaded this free New Years image last year (from Mo's Blog).  So I visited my craft room (first card I've made in about 4 or 5 weeks) and whipped up this little card.  He is colored in with Copics and I added a bit of sparkle with my Sukara gel pen. 

Happy New year to all of you who visit me here at my blog.  I look forward to all that the crafty New Year brings, including sharing the joy of creating with all of you!

Faux Washi Tape (Japanese Tape)

So I am sure that you have all seen the amazing cards that all the "in" girls are making with Washi Tape or Japanese Tape. Well, I don't own any ..  yet!   I am hoping my local scrapbook store or Michael's get some in ...soon!!  I try really hard to not order anything on line ... too tempting to just push a button, doesn't feel like you are really spending any money and I can just imagine how much I will start to spend. 

Anyway ... the other day I found a few sites that were offering "digital" Japanese tape (puglypixel.com).  Now you are supposed to use it in Photoshop and the like .. but I am still working on figuring out all that kind of thing so I didn't use it quite the way you were supposed to.  Instead, I decided to print the "tapes" out onto vellum and then I cut/tore them out and adhered them onto my card.  Unfortunately, becuase it was vellum I got the wrong side down and it made the printer ink run a bit.  Sheesh!!  I'll have to be more careful next time. 

I also used this digital polka dot paper from Krystal Hartley's "Sky Falling" digital collection.  Look at me go!!  And I actually used the Tea for Two set (Papertrey Ink) which is only the 2nd time using it!!  Again, trying to use the products and stamps I have on hand!!

I think I will send this card off to my mom as she is a big "tea tottler"!!!  It would be a nice think of you card so she knows that is what I do!!

Hybrid Owl Card

So, look what I did today!! I watched Kristina Werner's latest Finally Friday post where she shared a step by step tutorial on creating a digital card template. Well, I wasn't able to do all the exact same things ... I still need lots of work on figuring out Photoshop, but I was able to create this!! I printed off the card and then stamped the sentiment and the little feather. That, of course, makes it a hybrid. I could have added the sentiment on Photoshop but I really wanted to make it hybrid. I don't have any free "shadows" to make the digital elements look 3 dimensional so I took my light grey alcohol marker and drew around the elements to help give some dimension. Supplies: Digital - papers and owl element from Krystal Hartley's free set called Sky Falling; Stamps - Beyond Baisc Background and Birds of a Feather (Papertrey Ink); Other - light grey (Prismacolor Alcohol marker), corner rounder (We R Memory Makers). Now, since it took me hours of playing around with lots of 'undos' I don't think I'll jump on the digital band wagon just yet. But it is kinda fun and I will probably continue to try a little!! Lucy`s Challenge /10 - Digital - Airplane Birthday

Lucy is such an amazing crafter!! I love her clean and simple cards. And lately, she`s been throwing out challenges. This time, it is a challenge to use digital, something she is very good at. I, however, am not so good at that!! But I wanted to try!

A few weeks ago I purchased some stuff at my local scrapbook store and had spent enough to pick something out of the bucket for free. I saw a digital scrapbook memories CD that was called Oh Boy and had tons of sport images and papers on it so I picked it. I decided to try it out for Lucy`s challenge.

Here is the end result. I`m not totally sold on the card itself but I love the images. The clouds are a great turquoise gingham pattern - love them!! I chose the 3 clouds, resized them to what I wanted and printed them out. Then I picked the cute airplane, resized it, and printed it out. I cut all 4 items and adhered them to the card using dimensional foam for the plane and one cloud. A sentiment was added and some sponging. Voila, a digital card!

Supplies: Stamps - Birthday Basics, Simple Alphabet (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Whisper White (Stampin`Up!); Ink - Tempting Turquoise (Stampin Up!); Other - Oh Boy CD (Digital Scrapbook Memories), dimensionals.

I am going to continue to play around with digital but I love the feel of playing with paper and embellishments that I doubt I will ever become a true digital crafter! But I love the options of what digital can provide in a hybrid kind of way. I just need more practice!!!

Corrosive Challenge #47 - Digital Hero Arts

The challenge this week on Corrosive Challenge Blog is to 'use digital images'. I am just starting to explore the world of digital so I am limited on my supplies but I have been gathering a few items.

On this card, the digital element is the pink polka dot paper. It is from Krystal Hartley and very yummy!!

I printed it off onto white cardstock and sewed around it with my sewing machine. Then, I stamped this butterfly (Hero Arts) onto the dotted paper and then again on 2 other sheets of designer paper scraps. I cut the bits and pieces of the butterfly out and glued it all back together again. I added the sentiment (Demask Designs - Papertrey Ink) and matted it on some matching blue paper. This was all on a white card base.

This card also qualifies for the Hero Arts challenge this month which is a theme - Friendship and Valentine. I think I'll send this little card to my mom for Valentine's day!!

Trying Digital

So I popped over to Caardvarks today to see what the challenge was and found out that it was being sponsored by Hero Arts (love them!) and that the challenge was to use a digital item on your card. Now, I've been checking into "digital" these days. It interests me but I am at a bit of a stand still since I'm still trying to figure out Photoshop!! Regardless, since I had nothing better to do on this cold, cold day (it is -28 here today, celcius) I decided to play around a bit. Here are my first ever hybrid cards (a little digital and a little stamping). They are small cards that fit into the "mini envelope treat pattern" by Lisa Johnson . She used hers for valentine treats, I figured they'd make great mini card envelopes. The card measures 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/16" high - perfect for a little "hello" card to a friend. I haven't purchased any digital images (yet) but there are lots for free on line, if you look! I decided that since the challenge was being sponsored by Hero Arts I'd use their free Friendship Definition digital image. That's the background. As well, and less noticable, is a layer of cream color underneath the definition stamp, from the same set. The hybrid part comes in with the addition of my hand stamping that I added. I used these yummy strawberries from the Fruitful set by Papertrey Ink. I started out with the blue background color. But then, I wanted the background to match the strawberries better so I changed the color - wow, look at me go!!! So, if you are like me and a bit "scared" to "go digital" - start small!! It was a lot of fun making these cards ... eventually after a LOT of fiddling!! Thanks for dropping in! Donelda

Adobe Snowflake Sketch Challenge

Okay, so this looks like a really simple card... but there is so much behind it!

First, this card is made using Papertrey Ink cardstock, the very cardstock that was sent to me from Kimberly Crawford when she read that I didn't have any. Wasn't that the nicest thing a girl could do!!!

Second, I saw that the Casual Mid-Week Challenge #20 on the PTI forum this week was actually posted by the same Kimberly Crawford.

Third, I had read an awesome post by still the same Kimberly Crawford on her blog explaining how to print using digital papers...and since my increadibly awesome husband surprised me with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 ... I had to give it a try!!

Finally, the designer paper on there...it is created by the one and only ... Becky Oehlers (bet you thought I was going to say Kimberly Crawford...just give the girl some time, I'm sure it is coming, LOL). Becky is an increadible crafter, Papertrey Ink Design Team Member, opera singer, and now....digital paper creator!! I love her stuff and she is sharing it FREE on her blog...run over there and check it out!!

See, I told you there was a lot going on with this card :-)

Making the card was easy... Kraft base, 1 1/4" squares, two snowflakes cut with my hobby knife from Becky's paper, a strip and a 1" square of Becky's papers, Merry Christmas stamped in Chocolate Chip ink... finally some sponging on the snowflakes and around the card for definition. Simple!

Supplies: Cardstock-Dark Chocolate, Kraft, Select White (all Papertrey Ink) Designer paper- Piffaro Shawm (Becky Oehlers); Stamps - Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink); Ink - Chocolate Chip (Stampin' Up!); Other - 1 1/4" and 1" square punches, sponge dauber, hobby knife, Adobe Photoshop, computer.
