Take 3 Challenge - Pumpkins - Take 1

Hello again and welcome back to another installment of one of my Take 3 Challenges.  This is where I use 1 stamp (or item) on 3 different cards, showcasing each on Mon, Tue, and Wed of the week. 

Today's Take 1 card is a Halloween card, of course!  Happy Halloween!! Typically I'm not a real halloween card maker but this year I did create a few (3 to be exact) using this pumpkin from Craftsmart. 

This panel started off white ... believe it or not!  Gotta love distress inks!!  And that soft ribbon is an oldie from Stampin' Up!  Loved it so much back then I bought 2 spools ... still love it and have decided I'd better start using it!!  LOL!!

Halloween

A quick post before I leave for work.  Made this for hubby ... only problem is that he walked in when I was colouring him and said "wow, that's cool!".  The image and designer paper are from my wonderful Secret Sister ... who is supposed to be a secret ... but I know who she is ... thanks Secret Sister - you're the best!

I don't make many Halloween cards usually but this year I've been on a bit of a roll.  Next week's Take 3 challenge are all halloween cards.

CAS-ual Fridays #24 - No Orange Halloween

Over at CAS-ual Fridays the latest challenge is to create a Halloween card that does not have any orange in it!  Well, that isn't really so hard now .. is it??!!

Here is what I ended up with ....  I really like it ... but it kinda makes me think of batman ... no it totally makes me think of batman!!  LOL!!

The bat was cut out of Sookwang tape and then covered with black glitter ... here is a closer picture that almsot captures the sparkliness of the glitter:

If you are a regular here you know that I love to create CAS (Clean and Simple) cards.  This is the first time I've played along with a CASual Fridays challenge but I am sure to be there again!!

Using Scraps 1 - Halloween Stripes

I am always so inspired by those of you who buy crafting magazines and actually use them for inspiration !!  You know who you are.  So, I decided to take my Sept/Oct 2010 issue of Paper Crafts and actually let it inspire me (in addition to drooling all over the great cards!).

In addition to using the magazine for inspiration, I also decided to go with all scraps!!  Everything you will see in the coming posts will include items from my scrap cardstock pile, scrap designer paper pile, or from my bins of "things" I made but didn't end up using .. you know, like die cuts, stamped images, etc.

This card was created based on the Moxi Fab Color Combo - grey, royal blue, rich purple, and gold (page 32).  Once I pulled out a bunch of the scraps onto my crafting desk, the colors were totally Halloween so I created this card.  The grey shape was hand cut and then spritzed with some Silver Sugar Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels).  The buckle of the hat was coated with some Glossy Accents (Ranger) to make it shine.  the hat stamp is a g studio from Michaels and the sentiment is from an old Stampin' Up! set that retired long ago!!

Halloween Cards for 2009

Okay, so I love all those great Halloween stamps out there ... but I just don't make Halloween cards and I wouldn't do any home decore with them either ... so I've kept my stash rather limited. Just a few dollar stamps from Michaels is all I have. I do, however, like to make just 2 cards, for my boys (that's my husband and my son!). Because I don't have many Halloween stamps it forces me to be creative. This first card doesn't have any stamps on it!! The silhouettes are actually from a Halloween card my son received from his grandparents last year. I had saved it all this time :-) The ribbon is a sweet gift from Jessica (Hi Jessica!) that I have also had for a year...or maybe 2. The sentiment is from a package of stickers that came in that card from the grandparents - convenient! Just a bit of torn black paper at the top and we have a great halloween card. Next up is an image I got from a friend (by Doodle Factory). I colored it in with my Copic markers. When did green and purple become Halloween colors??? The papers are a gift from my friend Dawn (Hi Dawn if you are out there) - they are the Creative Memories Hallowen prints from last year! Very cool!! and the sentiment - well the 'happy' is from my Everyday Flexible Phrases set (retired from Stampin Up!) and the 'halloween' is made with Hero Arts alphabet stamps. A bit of creative cutting and another great halloween card. If you needed more inspiration, the Saturday Spotlight with Hidden Potential challenge site held a challenge a few weeks ago where Halloween cards were to be made without any Halloween stamps. You should see the great and creative cards, including my card HERE. So, if you don't have halloween stamps that doesn't mean you can't get creative!! Happy Halloween everyone! Donelda

Old Witches Shoes

For anyone who has followed my blog over the last few years, you'll have seen these before. They are not new, I made them in 2007!! However, my dh asked me to order my Splitcoaststampers Gallery by views and this was the item in my gallery that has had the most views, 12003 to be precise, althought I noticed that there were 5 views added while I was typing up this post!!! Ha, you can tell it is halloween.

The picture in my gallery is a better shot and actually has 4 shoes so if you want to take a peek you can see them HERE. The link to where I found the template is also there!!

Saturday Spotlight - Halloween ... but not Halloween

(Note that this is my 3rd post for today...cruise down to see them all) So there is a new challenge blog out there called Saturday Spotlight with Hidden Potential . What a great name hey!! It sounds like their challenges are going to be lots of fun...like their very first one - It's Halloween...but NOT! They started out with a bang challenging us to create a halloween card....but without using halloween stamps!! What!!?? At first I was a bit concerned that I would never figure out a way to do it but laying in bed late last night it came to me....my favorite scribble cat would be perfect!! I decided to go with a Michelle Zindorf brayering style and add the cat in front of a full moon. My favorite part are the clouds in the sky....I did that by swiping my Chocolate Chip ink pad directly onto the paper. I was just "winging it" so I was so glad it turned out. A few brads and a sentiment and voila, a halloween card without one halloween stamp used!! Supplies: Stamps - Scribble Cat (All Night Media), Everyday Flexible Phrases (Stampin' Up! retired); Paper - Whisper White, Chocolate Chip (Stampin' Up!); Ink - Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip (SU!); Other - 1 1/4" circle punch, Post It notes, corner rounder, brads, sponges. I can't wait to see what everyone else does. And if this is the first challenge on the Saturday Spotlight blog, I can't wait to see what's next!! Donelda

Halloween Treats

I have made a lot of treats for Halloween. First of all, I made these awesome Edible Eye Balls!! I saw them on Lauren's blog and knew I had to make them for my son's class!! It was very easy. The bat was a stamp my husband picked up for me from the $1.50 bin in Michaels. I stamped them onto shrink plastic, cut them out and shrunk them!

Then, I found awesome packets of Halloween hot chocolate. One is hot chocolate that is actually orange. The other one is hot chocolate with Snoopy characters on it. I made long holders for the hot chocolate packages - one for my son (the blue with spiders) and the other one is for my husband (the orange one).

Finally, I found some popcorn that pops up orange!! Cool!! I decided to package it to give to my co-workers!! I used this awesome designer paper from Making Memories that my friend gave me (Hi Dawn!!). Not only did she give me the papers, she also got me the cutest little halloween punch form Making Memories. It has a small spider, ghost, bat, and pumpkin. It is hard to see them, unless you click on the picture, but there are actually spiders hanging from the spider webs that are on the designer paper (go ahead, click on it and see it for yourself). It is hanging from a piece of DCM floss!! They were also a lot of fun to make!

Supplies: There are way too many supplies here to mention them all but I will identify a few of the stamp sets. Birds of a Feather (Papertrey Ink), Year Around Fun 2 (Stampin' Up!).

Candy Shoes

I made these "witch shoes" a bit ago but spent today filling bags with the kandy korn filled shoes and adding them to bigger bags of candy treats!! My son was drooling over everything...the temptation is killing him!!

The template is from Ellen Hutson. On splitcoast someone was looking for the template of these shoes on this thread . They had seen them in a magazine. Sweet Ellen was able to help everyone out and posted it on her blog!! Wasn't that wonderful for her to do. I totally fell in love with the shoes and started making them!! They are quite simple to make. It does use up a lot of black paper as it is hard to cut 2 templates from one 81/2 x 11" sheet but if you are really careful you can do it! It also takes a lot of cutting -- the black shoe and then the inside designer paper. But the embellishing part is easy. I have that great buckle stamp from Close to my Heart which worked well with ribbon. My other favorite (not shown here) is to use 3 small rhinstones along the right hand side (like buttons) and a bow on top. And my big question for the season... When exactly did purple and green become Halloween colors?? They were never considered Halloween colors when I was a kid!! I find that very interesting!!

I made this card for Caardvarks challenge - A Card to Die for, where they asked us to use Diecuts on our cards.

Well, I looked at the samples and all the beautiful cards that others had done and I became quite confused as to what a Diecut actually was. Was it a piece of chipboard?? a punched shape?? or a piece of an old Christmas card? You see, I had believed that a Diecut was an already cut shape of some sort.... does that make sense. Anyway, it seemed like what others were using as diecuts was much more liberal... which works for me!! Well, I looked through my stash of stuff and found a book of Alpha Blocks by Deja Views and right there on the cover it says "10 Die-Cut Cardstock letter and number sheets" so I guessed that I was good to use them!! Yeah!!

The card itself is quite simple. I decided I'd use a letter H and make a halloween card. I don't really like halloween all that much (I know, I'm a big scaredy cat!) so I don't have many stamps to use for such cards. I did find this cool ghost stamp (sorry no indication on it who makes or distributes it) in my stash that I bought about 6 years ago for a project I don't think I ever got around to doing (what else is new). I used a piece of Kraft cardstock and stamped the ghost image all over it. It is a self inking stamp and comes out in a light brown color - similar to close to cocoa. Next, I added "appy alloween" using some black funky letters called Alphabitties from Provo Craft. I tied a small bit of black organdy ribbon along the top of the diecut H and added that little web and spider in the corner (I just couldn't help myself *giggle*). To finish off the card, I inked the edges using my Close to Cocoa ink pad.

Halloween Treats

Well, I don't have much of a project to share tonight. But I did want to share a few stories with you! This is a little 3x3 card that I made to give my son on Halloween. But there is a story behind it!! You see, I don't have many halloween stamps. In fact, the only ones I own are the 2 little stamps from Year Around Fun 2 - a tiny jack o'lantern and a tiny witch hat. I have been able to make a bunch of great things using those 2 little stamps like this ATC. But, since I don't really like Halloween and certainly don't send Halloween cards to anyone I've been pretty solid about NOT buying Halloween stamps (even though, I admit, there are some really cute Halloween stamps out there!). So, my son and I were at Michael's a few weeks ago. We walked past the $1.50 wood stamp bin, and I couldn't help myself so I started looking through to see if there was anything intersting. My son saw a few Halloween stamps and said "Mommy, you should buy some of those". When I explained that I didn't need any Halloween stamps because I wasn't planning to make any Haloween cards... his response was "Well, everyone else will be making them and you'll be sad you didn't buy these stamps!!" Can you believe that !! Can you say peer pressure .... or is that son pressure??!! Well, when he wasn't looking, I threw these 2 in my basket and made this card with them. My second story is about my husband. He is such a sweety!! He knows I love Whoppers and that I love to snack on chocolate when I stamp. When he saw these cool Halloween style Whoppers, he bought them and stuck them secretly in my crafting room. I found them there tonight... what a great surprise, what a great husband!!
