Loonie Stamper's Challenge #117 - Doily

The Loonie Stamper Girls continue to throw down some great challenges and create amazing cards for them.  This week, the challenge is to use DOILIES (not dollies!! hehehe). 

I wanted to play along and went for my large paper doilies, then remembered that I have a bunch of Martha Stewart doilies left from my flirtation with Christine Middlecamps inspiration (you can see versions HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE).  Then, I remembered that I actually had a doily all decorated up waiting to be put on a card (if you visit often you have already seen it but now you get to see it on a card).  A bit of a 'cheat' perhaps but you all know how I am trying to use up all the stuff in my scrap bins and half finished item bin. 

So, I grabbed some lovely K&Co. designer paper, stitched around the edge and inked it up.  Then I added the white grosgrain ribbon (from my friend Jessica G - thanks Jessica!!).  Finished off the easy card with this pre-made embellishment.  See that butterfly ... it's an iron-on ... you know, those things you iron on to your jeans.  Sentiment if from Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink).  I took a photo from the side so you can see how layered the embellishment is.

Clean and Simple (CAS) Challenge - 76 - sketch

(note- this is actually my third post for the day ~having lots of fun crafting today, finally ~ if you'd like to see my submission for Lucy's button challenge or Susan's R.'s latest One Layer Wednesday card scroll down)

So I haven't played along with the Clean and Simple Challenges on Splitcoaststampers for a while.  I saw the adorable card by ravengirl that was being used as a layout for challenge #76 and decided to play along. 

I realized that the layout would be an excellent opportunity to use one of my doilies (inspired by Christine Middlecamp and her doily project seen HERE) that I had made previously.  I kept pretty close to the basic layout simply changing the shape of the desinger paper layer, the colors, and using the doily instead of a flower.  As ravengirl did, I distressed around my designer paper which served to pull it together with my doily creation. 

Supplies: Stamps- Wishing You, Polka Dot Basics II (Papertrey Ink), Watch Trio (smARTworks); Paper - Whisper White (Stampin' Up!), Winsom from the Ambrosia collection (Papertrey Ink), aqua paper (unknown); Ink - Jet Black (Ranger), Broken China and Peeled Paint (Ranger); Other - transparency, button (Hero Arts), white doily (Martha Stewart), white crochet thread, clear embossing powder (used to make the polkadot background as it was emboss resisted with the 2 ranger inks), dimensionals, sponge. 

Well, that was fun for a change!!  I sure have been prolific today ... 3 posts!!  and I have a  bunch more ready to go for the rest of the week.  I think I am back in the swing of this stamping :-)  That makes me smile!!

Decorative Doily and Kristina Werner color challenge #2

So for any of you who frequent here once in a while you probably know that I'm usually a 2 color girl ... sometimes I get crazy and throw in a 3rd color but only when I'm feeling dangerous!! LOL! So, you can only imagine my distress when I saw 6 colors on Kristina Werner's latest Reader's Choice Color Inspiration #2!! Gasp, oh my, how could anyone put so many colors together on one card???!!! But then I remembered that it is supposed to be a challenge....right??!! So I dove right in!! Of course it helped a lot having recently checked out Christine Middlecamp's blog and her amazing Martha Stewart paper doily project. Here creations are simply out of this world ... so much so that I ran to Michaels' today in the rain just to get some!! I also picked up the Martha Stewart starburst punch (you can see it under the flower and leaf) just because Christine used it on one of her doilies. I just couldn't resist. And just a note, other than the card base and the doily, all of the paper used on this card are from my scrap bins. You see, I am totally fasinated with Amy Heller's 1 hour challenge idea where she takes all her scraps and sees what she can create in exactly one hour. Reading about it has gotten me itching to use up some of my scraps again. Supplies: Stamps - sentiment from Autumn Abundance (Papertrey Ink), Borders & Corners (Papertrey Ink), Turning a New Leaf (Papertrey Ink), stitching is from Of a Feather (Memory Box); Ink - Archival Jet Black (Ranger), Tea Dye (Ranger distress ink); Paper - all scraps from my bin; Other - paper doily called "tags" on package (Martha Stewart), 1 1/2" circle punch (Stampin' Up!), starburst punch (Martha Stewart), flower punch (EK Success), yellow rhinstone (Me & My Big Ideas). You totally know that I will be creating more of these wonderful paper doily creations!! I can't wait! I think I might have to remember to stop long enough to eat this weekend!!
