Decorative Doily and Kristina Werner color challenge #2

So for any of you who frequent here once in a while you probably know that I'm usually a 2 color girl ... sometimes I get crazy and throw in a 3rd color but only when I'm feeling dangerous!! LOL! So, you can only imagine my distress when I saw 6 colors on Kristina Werner's latest Reader's Choice Color Inspiration #2!! Gasp, oh my, how could anyone put so many colors together on one card???!!! But then I remembered that it is supposed to be a challenge....right??!! So I dove right in!! Of course it helped a lot having recently checked out Christine Middlecamp's blog and her amazing Martha Stewart paper doily project. Here creations are simply out of this world ... so much so that I ran to Michaels' today in the rain just to get some!! I also picked up the Martha Stewart starburst punch (you can see it under the flower and leaf) just because Christine used it on one of her doilies. I just couldn't resist. And just a note, other than the card base and the doily, all of the paper used on this card are from my scrap bins. You see, I am totally fasinated with Amy Heller's 1 hour challenge idea where she takes all her scraps and sees what she can create in exactly one hour. Reading about it has gotten me itching to use up some of my scraps again. You totally know that I will be creating more of these wonderful paper doily creations!! I can't wait! I think I might have to remember to stop long enough to eat this weekend!! kwernerdesign Color Challenge #50

Kristina Werner is having her 50th color challenge on her blog. I love her style and have learned so much from her over the last few years. I follow her blog religiously and have seen every color challenge...but I rarely get around to actually participating in them. However, 50 is a bit of a milestone...and she's giving away prizes...and who doesn't love prizes. Besides...it is a cold and rainy day here today so I have some time to actually stamp for a change!!

Her colors were really out of my comfort zone!! I mean....whoa!! But I do love them and the more I looked at them together, the better I liked them. So I pulled every crafting item that I owned out that matched these colors...buttons, ribbon, rub-ons, ink, specialty papers, threads, wire, primas, felt, ....you name it and it was sitting out on my craft table. Then, I worked on picking a layout that might be an interesting way to showcase such bright and funky colors. Then, I had to find stamps that might work with the colors and layout.... sheesh, this was a lot of work for me. LOL

Finally, I ended up with this creation. I started out with the 3 colors in the middle, stamping the turquoise and red panels only with white craft ink. Then, I matted them onto white and tied the Dark Chocolate swiss dots ribbon around the panel. Next, I cut a white circle and a brown scallop using my Spellbinder dies. Added my round sentiment (I love round sentiments...not sure why but I do). Then, I threaded and added the botton in the middle and adheared it to the panel with dimensionals for some pop. I attached this focal panel to a piece of brown cardstock and then attached it to a white card base.

Kristina Werner Color Challenge #46 - butterflies and boxes

A try at Kristina Werner's color challenge this week. I don't usually get a chance to get around to actually making anything but I did squeeze it in this weekend.

There is little stamping on this card, but if you look carefully (click on the picture for a larger image) there are some small flowers stamped onto the blue strip of cardstock.

I wasn't sure I liked these colors together, but once I got started they seemed to work.

KWerner Color Challenge #39

Can you believe that this is the first time I've actually gotten to try a color challenge by Kristina Werner??!! Well, it is. Her blog is one of my favorites and I check out the color challenge every week but I just never seem to be able to get the idea, make the card, and upload it in time.

Well, tonight I saw the colors for challenge #39 and I just HAD to give this one a go!!

So, if you can't read the colors, they are...basic black, real red, so saffron, whisper white, and green galore (or another green). Well, I stayed true to the colors. And don't you LOVE that picture!!

I started out with these awesome flowers from the Garden of Life set by Papertrey Ink. I had stamped them onto black cardstock with white craft ink! Cut them out using my coluzzle. Then, I wanted to use panels of the colors. I cut each color to size, then doodled around each one...one of my all time favorite things to do!! Then, added the circled flowers and a sentiment. Finished it off with some black and white gingham ribbon! I kinda like it!! I wonder what it would have looked like on a black card base instead of white??? Mmmmm, might need to give that a try!

Color Inspiration Challenge #17

Today I got to play in my stamp room to my husbands dismay. He is out weeding the garden. I should be there too! I am heading out as soon as I add this blog entry!

I saw that today was the last day to enter Kristina's Color Inspiration Challenge #17. Although I had mentioned to her that she should give her reader's challenges when she held a live blog chat, I have yet to be able to participate until today!! Her color choice was interesting. Certainly not colors I would reach for naturally but that is the point...right...a challenge :-)

I knew I did not want the base of my card to be white. So I played around with the other colors for a while. I discovered that I had this awesome K&Co. houndstooth patterned paper that matched the Sage Shadow color perfectly so I went from there. I found it difficult to blend the red and pink in but decided to use buttons to represent the Red Rose color. When it was pulled together, the scalloped pink looked to plain for the "fancyness" of the rest of the card so I used my white gel pen to make some fancy doodles. Not so sure I like them now that it is done but I think it looks better than it did.
