Welcome back!  Here is another layout created based on Shimelle's Sketch 6. 

 

It was a perfect sketch for this event where I had a number of photos I wanted to include.

 

 

Remember how I am trying to not spend money but use what I have.  Well, I am always so tempted to purchase all the great labels that different companies sell.  But I don't and instead, I created my own labels that you see here using my circle and rectangle stamps from Papertrey Ink. 

 

 

This was a lot of fun to create!

Lilacs - Scrapbook Page

Wow, I did't realize it would be so difficult to get back in the saddle.  It is hard to find your scrapbooking mojo when you've been away from it for so long (or crafting in general!).

 

Been spending time reconnecting with the scrapbooking world over on 2peas in a bucket. 

I started out making a sketch ... but you'll notice I strayed a bit.

Here is my page.  Took me way too long!  LOL!

 

And the details.  Note that I made the tags myself.  Other than the letters and the bird, all of the embellishments were handmade.  If I am not able to buy all the goodies in the world, I will need to make them.  This is something I find fulfilling ... like old fashion scrapbooking before there were so many dies and pemade embellies to buy.  You'll be seeing a lot of homemade stuff on my pages. 

 

 

I will be entering it in the last Memory Keeping Monday Challenge (2peas is changing a bunch of the weekly challenges/video topics) which was to use any of the challenges covered in 2012's MKM challenges.  I chose the chipboard challenge posted 07/16/12.  I used the chipboard frame and bird.

PaperCrafts Magazine CASE - Lindsey's choice 2

Hello again!  Glad to see you back.  Today's card is choosen by Lindsey.  Check out that beauty.  I too almost picked it so was totally pumped to see that Lindsey had.  That ribbon behind the element is awesome!!  (see pg 26 by Vivian Masket)

So I kept to the overall layout, changing the colours and card theme.

This great flower is from a sticker sheet (BasicGrey).  The ribbon is Stampin' Up! and the sentiment is Papertrey Ink. 

Okay, now off to see what Lindsey created with this awesome card.  I know she had a particular ribbon she was going to use on this card.

Take 3 Challenge - Susan's Sketch - take 2

Welcome back to this week's Take 3 Challenge where I decided to use Susan's sketch HERE!  That's right .. 3 different cards using the same sketch.  So much fun!

This time I had to flip the sketch because the fishy was facing the other way!  This is also a simplified version of the sketch since the cluster at the one end is just the fish with a bit of water splashes.  The fish is another one of Kim Hughes free digital images from Paper Smooches.  So cute!!  Senitment is Papertrey Ink.  Designer paper is from BasicGrey ... look at me acutally using it instead of hoarding!!

Just one more card to go .. take 3 will be showcased tomorrow .. and like usual, I've saved the best for last!!

Take 3 Challenge - Susan's Sketch - take 1

So, today's Take 3 Challenge for myself was to use a sketch!  I know, a bit different right!!??  And the sketch comes from the very talented Susan Raihala seen HERE.  I totally fell in love with it!!  It might look familiar since I used it on this card HERE as well!   I just can't stop using it!  Perfect for a take 3 challenge.   

On this card, I used some more Paper Smooches free digital images.   The cupcake and the sentiment.  You can't see it in this photo but I've added Glossy Accents to the cherry (which is paper pierced) and the red hearts.  The paper is from BasicGrey ... oh how I love thee!! 

So that is Take 1 using this sketch ... what might take 2 look like ... you'll have to come back tomorrow to see!!

BasicGrey Sketch - Birthday Porcelain Rose

I was very excited to see that BasicGrey has a blog with a brand spanking new design team!  On September 12, Melanie left this sketch to try.

I pulled out my Porcelain Collection Pack and went to work.  I stayed pretty true to the sketch!  This is one of the only times I've used the stickers that come in the collection pack (sheesh, it is only the 2nd time I've cut into this paper ... I am such a BasicGrey hoarder!).  I adore this rose and this whole collection is so soft and lovely!

 You might notice I've seperated this one rose from a bunch.   You will be sure to see the rest on cards in the future! Having fun acutally using my BasicGrey papers!  Keep those challenges coming!!

A Boy and His Dog - Paper Piecing

Good evening everyone.  I wanted to use some of the new stuff I bought and to participate in one of the Moxie Fab challenges that are going on right now.   I haven't done some paper piecing lately and I knew this October Afternoon stamp set called Kite Tales would work perfectly.  This little boy and his dog are adorable!!  Going through all the designer paper that I have gathered in an attempt to use some (for a change) I decided to us the Mellow 6x6 pad (BasicGrey).  I choose 4 of the patterns - stripes (for his shirt), brown solid (for his pants), green solid (for his speech bubble), and cloud page (for the background).  The sentiment is from Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink)  See

that awesome grass ... it is a piece of Banana Leaf Festive paper by Creative Imaginations.  It is the coolest stuff ... soft and green and flexible!  I fringed it and then smooshed it all around the boy and dog's feet. 

This was a FUN card to create.

BasicGrey, Papertrey, and Hero Arts

I made these 3 cards because of 2 of my New Years resolutions...to use what I have and to create masculine cards. Using some of my new Hero Arts stamps and some little used Papertrey Ink stamps and one sheet of BasicGrey paper, I pulled together these 3 different looking cards!! Supplies: Stamps - Asian Frames (Hero Arts), Autumn Abundance, Beyond Basic Borders, Around and About (Papertrey Ink); Ink - Chocolate Chip (Stampin' Up!), Summer Sunrise (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Whisper White, Chocolate Chip. CAS 51 - Designer Paper Tree 2

For the Clean and Simple #51 challenge over on SCS the challenge was to use designer paper on our CAS cards. Well, that just happens to be one of my New Year's Resolutions!! I have challenged myself to use what I have....and trust me, I have a ton of designer papers!!

Some of my favorite papers are from the BasicGrey lines! I particularly love this multi-lined sheet from the Stella Ruby collection called Drive in the Country.

I adhered a 1" strip alone the edge of a white card base and rounded the corners. I had originally intended the card to be horizontal but I wasn't feelin' it and in the end, it turned out to be a vertical card.

I stamped this truely delicious tree that I just received in my latest order from Papertrey Ink. It comes from their brand new set called Through the Trees. After that, I was stumped as to where to put the sentiment. I considered placing one along the bottom between the tree and the designer paper but that didn't look right. Then I tried it up along the top right of the card...but again, yuck! Then I turned it sideways to run along the paper and I had an idea. I put away the sentiment I was using and pulled out my Around and About Sentiments (Papertrey Ink). It has the best long and skinny repeated sentiments so I stamped it along the edge of the designer paper. I really liked how this ended up. Glad I played around with placement before putting it in my original spot!!

Now I think I'll browse around on the CAS site to see what all the other crafty ladies did with designer paper. Then, maybe I'll make another card with some other designer paper....the lord only knows how many cards I could make with it all!! LOL!!

Hedgehog Thinking of You!

This cute little hedgehog is a stamp that my wonderful son gave me for Christmas. It is from Penny Black and is actually just part of the whole stamp called Make Believe. I decided to ink up only the hedgehog and not his little reindeer friend. I colored him in with my pencil crayons (Prismacolor) and blended it with some odorless thinner. The sentiment is from Around and About (Papertrey Ink). And look at that....some Basic Grey paper .... actually being used!! I am actually using the 'stuff' I have accumulated!! Embellish Magazine - Pink, Red, and Black

Over at Embellish Magazine, the challenge is to use these yummy colors!! How could I ever resist??

I drew and cut the heart by hand and

covered it with some yummy red

glitter!!

BasicGrey Color Challenge - Color Combo 2

I love BasicGrey paper - so much so that I tend to buy it and never use it. It is just so pretty to look at that I find it hard to actually cut up!! I know that is silly and makes no sense so I am determined to start using it. (Trouble is, now I buy 2 sheets - one to keep and one to use - crazyness!). Anyway, I was glad to see the BasicGrey Challenge Blog up and running again because it will make me start using all my beautiful paper (well, the "use it" sheet anyway *wink*).

So this challenge is a color combination - a nice blue, red, green combo - pretty easy!! I started out making these great circle embellishments with a bunch of different papers in the colors for the challenge. I punched the more decorative paper with a 1 1/2" circle punch and cut a scallop circle with the darker/solid color using my Nestabilities. Then, I cut a 1/2" circle out of the darker/solid colors too. I piled these all up on top of each other and added a button witha hemp knot on it (tip - to get my buttons to lay flat on the embellishments, I tied the hemp into a knot and then added them to the buttons with a half glue dot). Finally, I added my curved sentiment over each circle. One of the reasons I love acrylic stamps is the ability to make straight sentiments curved!!!

Kindred Spirits

I made this a while ago for a co-worker who was moving from our office to another. I will really miss her smile during our meetings!! So, I stamped the 3 drinks onto some white cardstock and then colored them in with my Copic markers and Stampin' Up markers (the center drink). I added some stickles on each to give it a bit of shimmer too! At that time, I hummmed and hawwwwed about what kind of sentiment to add when I saw it... this one out of the Simple Little Things stamp set (anniversary set given away in 2008 to customers who purchased 12 or more Papertrey Ink sets within the year - not for sale). It is perfect...hahahaha, I laughed so hard at the pun!!! Totally intended!!!! and perfect for the recipient!! Inspiration Day 1 - K&Co. Que Sera Sera brads

I love to find objects and images that inspire me and make cards based on that inspiration!! Just ask my co-workers, I'm always walking around saying things like "wow, that shirt would make a great card" or "Look, you have pumpkin pie and chocolate chip on today". Hehehehe!! So I've decided to do an Inspiration Day. It will be on Saturday of each week and I will show you what inspired my card and then the card I created. Today's inspiration comes from these fabric brads from K&Co. I found them in the $1.50 bin at Michaels and went crazy because I almost bought them when they were full price!!

I decided they would work perfectly with the Marrakech paper collection by BasicGrey (and any of you who follow my blog know that I am trying to use some of my lovely hoarded BasicGrey papers). This eastern flair of the brad and paper made me think of the eastern style background stamp from the Background Basics: Retro set so I decided to use that as well. I cut some fo the Madagascar Mint paper (because the color was a perfect match to the fabric on one of the small brads) and stamped the background on it with Chocolate Chip ink. Then, I added a small strip of the Chai paper along the bottom and a thick strip of Dark Chocolate cardstock with the sentiment and brad. There was something missing so I pulled out a small strip of Raspberry Fizz cardstock which went perfectly with the design on the brad and adhered it to the top of the brown cardstock. The sentiment and dots are done with white embossing powder to make sure it stands out. Birthday Feathers

It has been a long time since I have played along with the sketch challenge at SCS so I decided to go with it tonight.

I really wanted to use these awesome feather stamps by smARTworks. Then, I decided to actually cut some of my BasicGrey paper collection ... I know, gasp right!! But everything but the main card base is BasicGrey ... even the piece I stamped on!!! Yeah for me :D

I am really loving that dark chocolate and chartruesse color together!!

Basic Grey Challenges are back!!!

After my computer crashed a number of months ago, I set to work trying to find and link up to all my favorite blogs and sites again. I looked and looked for the Basic Grey Challenge blog...but couldn't find it anywhere!! Strange!! Well, I decided to try looking for it again tonight since I bravely pulled out a pack of Basic Grey paper and actually cut into it tonight!! Wow, that's so impressive for me!! Turns out that the reason I couldn't find the site was because they were updating it!! It looks all bright and cheery now. And there is blog candy to be won too!! smARTworks - Birthday Flowers

I started out by stamping these funky flowers onto soem scrap white cardstock. Then, I added stripes of pink to the petals using my pink Copic marker. Some Basic Grey designer paper, some square rhinstones, an oval cut with my Nestabilities and a bit of doodling and voila!! smARTworks - Masculine Birthday

Making masculine cards is always difficult for me but I love the challenge. Here is a super easy one. I took this great dotted circle stamp from the Swirly-gigs stamp set from smARTworks. I decided to try some stamping with bleach. I used Night of Navy cardstock and I really like how it turned out. The rest is obvious!! Stamps – Swirly – gigs, extra sentiments (smARTworks); Ink – Chocolate Chip (Stampin’ Up!); Paper – Night of Navy (Stampin’ Up!), trail mix and honey from the Granola collection (Basic Grey); Other – kitchen twine, bleach, paper towel, corner rounder. Black, Grey + One - challenge from Basic Grey

I am forever making cards that meet challenges but I never seem to get them uploaded to actaully enter the challenge!! Here is a card that fits that category. A few weeks ago, the Basic Grey blog had a challenge to use Black, Grey and One (meaning to use the colors black and grey plus one other color). I decided to use this strip of butterflies from their Abrosia line. It is called Winsome and contains lots of different colored butterflies, but I strategically cut the black and grey ones out to use. The other color is red...or maybe the cream...I guess it is a bit of a cheat!!

I also added an oval of grey paper from Stampin' Up! cut and embossed using my oval Nestabilities. Finally, I stamped a sentiment from Quilters Sampler by Papertrey Ink. The little swirl under the sentiment is from Faux Ribbon (also from Papertrey Ink). One tiny gem to add a bit of bling!! Thanks for dropping in!!! Donelda
