Repurposed Wedding Invite

So in January I was invited to a wedding reception. The invite was lovely.  Too beautiful to throw away ... so I took it apart and repurposed it!

My plan is to keep it and send it to my friend for her birthday .. do you think she will recognize it???

Our Creative Corner - Bright and Happy New Year Lollipop

Check out this awesome bright and happy colour combo that Our Creative Corner has posted as a challenge!  Love it!! 

I had saved this awesome lollipop from my sons Halloween stash because I knew it would come in handy some day ....

Colours are a bit off due to it being so cloudy and grey here today!  So frustrating.

This card also qaulifies for the Sparkles Forum Challenge - Anything but a Christmas card as well as the Pile It On challenge #1 of 2012 - Anything Goes so I've entered it there as well.

Christmas cards - Post 3

Here is another Christmas card I made out of a piece from a store bought card that I received last year. See that beautiful strip of green with all the lovely shimmery gold in it .. it was a border around an image that I cut and kept. 

The gold circle is also recycled, I think it was the inside of a very expensive feeling envelope!  It looks like the sentiment is hard to see in these photos but in real life it is not. 

Christmas is getting closer and closer!!

Christmas cards - Post 1

It feels like I've been making Christmas cards forever!  LOL  I am going to post some over the course of this week leading up to Christmas. 

I love recycling parts of store bought cards.  Some times I just can't part with them!  Here is one example of recycling the main image from the front of the card.

This sticker I got years and years ago from one of my blogging friends, Jessica!  I bet she won't even remember sending it it's been so long!  I was so excited to find the ribbon that, in real life, matches the green on the elf perfectly!!

Crafty Creations Challenge #144 - Recycle

This week's challenge at Crafty Creations Challenge #144 is to recycle.  Well, if you have ever been around my blog you will know that I do that all the time!!  Today I recycled a music sheet that I got from an old old old organ music book.  Another recycled item is a small amount of black velvet trim that came off of an old pair of slippers. 

I don't make many wedding cards (not many folks in my world getting married these days) but thought the wedding bells would look great with the music background.

Recycled Birthday Card

If you follow my blog at all you will know how much I love to recycle!!  Lately, I've been on a real Kleenex box recycling kick.  There just seem to be so many great images on the boxes these days!! 

When I saw the box in our bathroom with these animals on it, I knew I'd have to create something with them.  Sometimes the hardest part is waiting for the box to get empty!!  LOL!  The animals were all nicely tucked into the colored boxes so I just had to cut them out, ink the edges and adhere them to the card.  The senitment is done with white embossing powder and comes from the Around & About Sentiments set (Papertrey Ink). 

A great card for a child's birthday!!

Calendar Page - recycled

I had participated in a Calendar Swap a few years ago!  The end result was an awesome House Mouse calendar with some great images!  After that particular year was over I couldn't bare to throw away some of the images, so I have kept them and will create cards from them.  Here was the November iamge - the page I was responsible for!  I used this piece of image from the House Mouse stamp called "sleeping with the strawberries".  I hand drew the scarf and cut it out to add to my mouse.  I also hand drew the tree and colored it in by sliding ink pads directly tothe paper.  A few punched leave were added for some "movement" on the image. 

To create the card I took the calendar page and added it to this square of houndstooth from my scrap bin.  The sentiment (from Paper Tray, Papertrey Ink) was stamped with Chocolate Chip ink and then I inked aorund the edges of the paper.   Added the whole thing to a 4.25" card. 

What can I say, I like to recycle.

Using Scraps 5 - Recycled Hello

This card was inspired from Maile Belles' card shown on page 24.  What a great layout!!   So what scraps did I use??  Well, all the paper on this card (with the exception of the base) is from Papertrey Ink packaging!!!  That's right.  I tend to keep the bands that go around the stamp sets when they arrive.  I realized as I dug through my scraps that I had 4 differnt colors of the same pattern so I wanted to use them together.  I cut them to be all the same size and popped them up on the card.  Then I added some black organdy ribbon.  Then, see that flower ... more of the same recycled PTI packaging!!  Yup, I punched out the starburst (Martha Stewart) and then cut slits to create petals.  A small circle of Sweet Blush cardstock (Papertrey Ink) with the simple sentiment completes the card!!!

I am having so much fun using up my scraps!!   Hope you are having as much fun seeing what I created.

Christmas Card Reveal Countdown - Day 6

Hello and welcome to the 6th day of my Christmas Card countdown!! Today's card is another recycled card. There are actually a few items recycled on this card. See that beautiful red and gold strip (click on it to see it better, the red is actually velvety and the gold has an awesome swirly pattern in it) it comes from a card we recieved for Christmas last year. The velvet and gold were just too pretty to throw away!! And those gold pointsettia's actually came from a co-worker's mother. Apparently they were trying to do some early down-sizing and came across all these gold embelishments and my friend thought I could use them on some cards. You can be sure that she will be recieving one of these cards for Christmas so she can see how beautiful they look!! And, while I'm pretty sure they weren't supposed to be pointsettia's, I think they fit the role perfectly!! What do you think?? I hope you are enjoying the countdown. I'll see you tomorrow for day 7. Christmas Card Reveal Countdown - Day 3

Welcome to day 3 of my Christmas card reveal. If you haven't been here for a bit you might not know that I decided to save most of the many Christmas cards I've been making over the last few months to share during the month of December. Today is the 3rd of 21 days. These 2 cards are actually recycled cards. The strips of image on these cards are actually small pieces of last years Christmas cards. This cute little Santa and his reindeer card is one of my very favorite out of all I made this year!! It is just so cute and clean and simple and perfect (at least to me!!). Stamps: Everyday Flexible Phrases (Stampin' Up!, retired), Believe (Papertrey Ink). I hope to see you tomorrow for Day 4 of my countdown (although I realize I am actually counting up!! Happy Birthday Friend

I got the main idea for this card from THIS card found on Stampin Kitty blog. I loved the circle of dots behind that little doll. Xiumaiyuki used the newest Polka Dot Basics II set from Papertrey Ink, but sadly I don't own it ... yet. So, instead, I used a circle of paper from a designer paper pad.

The image is actually a recycled image from a card my co-worker gave me. She printed it off from a clip art site and I loved it!! So much so, that I kept it. I trimmed it from her small card, colored it in with my inks and a watercolor brush, and then rounded the corners. I cut the designer paper circle with my coluzzle and adhered it to this white card base, then added the tree with dimensionals. I added the sentiment directly to the circle paper and a bit of knotted twill that matched the circles perfectly (love it when that happens!!).

I gave it back to that same friend for her birthday card. I hope she understands that, from a crafter, that is a high honour and compliment on her card!!

Supplies: Stamps - Text Boxed (Papertrey Ink); Paper - Whisper White (SU!), green dots (Me and My Big Idea 8x8 pad); Ink - Jet Black (Ranger), Spring Moss, Ripe Avocado (Papertrey Ink), Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip (Stampin' Up!); Other - Coluzzle circle, corner rounder, dimentaions, Spring Moss twill (Papertrey Ink), pastel chalks (Stampin' Up!).

New Year Cards

I don't usually make New Year's cards but I was excited to use some things I found around the house this holiday season! You see, I love to find packaging and try to re-use it in cards. You can see another project HERE where my husband saved me a pretty chocolate box to use. I thought I'd try the "ribbon" challenge from Daring Cardmakers, one of the 4 dares they suggested for the end of the year. The two bottom cards are made using parts of our Christmas Crackers that we broke open before Christmas dinner. We had 2 kinds, the ones with the star bursts (left bottom) and ones with white and silver polka dots (bottom right). The card on the top used up a silver birthday invitation that my son got earlier in the year. It was such a pretty silver that he also used it to make his own ATCs. It was also used for the rivet stamp on the bottom right card. That card got a ton of milage!! and talk about good recycling! I don't know about you but I love organdy ribbon, and especially black organdy ribbon!! I find I use it all the time! As you can see, that is the ribbon I used to meet the Daring Cardmakers dare!! Well, I hope you all have a wonderful New Year celebration. I also wish you all the best in 2008!

Metallic Holiday

I dropped in this morning to see what the Ways To Use It challenge was. Turns out Julia is having trouble with her computer (darn thing) so DawnL was our hostess! Her challenge...use metallic paper. Well, I was pretty sad because I do not have any of the new yummy metallic paper.

However, at supper tonight, my husband told me that he had saved the Laura Secord chocolate box (had even put it in my craft room) because he said, "there was some really nice green snowflakes and stuff" and he thought I might be able to use it for something. Well, you know what.... it was METALLIC GREEN!!! So, off to work I set to make a card!!

The sentiment is from Holiday Wishes (papertrey ink) and that bling is from the dollar store! Just a bit of black and white cardstock was all that was needed!

My hubby is the best guy ever!!
