Tuesday Morning Sketch #122 - Colour Splashed Lighthouse

I missed last week's Tuesday Morning Sketch so I decided I had to play along this week.  Cutting it kinda close - too close!! Turns out entries need to be uploaded by Sunday!!  LOL!!  Oh well ... here is the sketch...

... and here is my card:

I decided to 'interpret' the swirls as splashes of colour.  They were created with Distress Inks.  Then I took the same colours and a paint brush and watercoloured in soem parts of the lighthouse.  Love the loose look that I ended up with.

Had to attach a little shell in place of the bow ... a masculine card cannot have a bow but it can have a shell!!

Masculine Thank You

I adore this layout.  It wasn't what I was planning to do when I started the card but, rather, came from necessity.  You see, I added the hemp to the card front and tied it before checking to see if the knot was going to be where I wanted it.  When I went to place the die cut shape in the middle of the 4 green squares, the knot was too far toward the middle!  I initially said some bad words and went to untie the knot but then placed the die cut where it is now and loved it!!! 

The little tree at the bottom of the focal image piece is from Through the Trees (Papertrey Ink).  It is a mini version of the larger tree image in the set.  I hadn't even realized it was there.  I stamped it and then did some stamping off to get the varied intensities of ink colors.  The backgound is the wonderful Woodgrain stamp by Hero Arts.  I am so glad I bought that stamp!!!  Totally worth every penny I paid for it!!

Well, another masculine card to add to my stash.  How are you doing with your masculine cards???  The more I make them the easier I find them to make.

Loonie Stamper Challenge #38

Friday the latest Loonie Stamper Challenge was posted and when I saw them I knew I would have to try out these colors! They are awesome and definately up my color ally!! In fact, once I pulled a sheet of each color out and laid it onto my craft table, I knew I had to make a father's day card with them! Perfect color combo for a masculine card.

So, I pulled out my handy dandy Father Knows Best stamp set from PTI and got to work!!

I started by stamping the tree. Then I cut the image using my Labels Two Nestabilities. I also cut the brown mat and attached them. I added the sentiment, button, and brown hemp. Then, I randomly stamped the little leaves onto the Spring Moss strip of paper and adheared it all together.

Now off to see what the Loonie girls all did with these colors:

Jewels first card and second card, Dee, Char, Regan, Wendy, Maria

Old Guys Birthday Card

I love these papers from Creative Imaginations is so much fun!! I love creating great cards for the 'old guys' in my life!! This one was for our friend Mike who appreciated it...I think ;-)

Boy Birthday 3x3

I just love this little 3x3 card!! So easy and simple! Stamped the image. Colored it in with my prismacolor pencil crayons. Added some shading behind the glove (my fav part). Added a small sentiment (Mixed Messages set from Papertrey Ink is the best set for small sized cards and inchies). Finally, I added some drawn lines around the focal image. This card went to one of my sons' friends for his birthday. Great for the ball player!! Supplies: Stamps-Toy Box (Stampin' Up! - I think it is retired), Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink); Ink- Basic Black, Night of Navy (Stampin' Up!); Paper - Night of Navy, Whisper White (Stampin' Up!); Other-pencil crayons (Prismacolor), black pen (Sakura). Masculine Cards

Making masculine cards are always a bit tricky to make. They take a lot more thinking time than flowery, pretty cards. Since I have so many wonderful and important men in my world, I work very hard to be sure I have masculine cards around! So, here are a couple I made:

A pretty Clean and Simple card! I love putting sentiments onto popsicle sticks. They usually require being "trimmed" which is quite tricky...but totally worth the effort!!

Supplies: Paper-Very Vanilla, River Rock (SU!), brown (Bazzill); Ink - Chocolate Chip, River Rock (SU!); Stamps- Father Knows Best (Papertrey Ink), Lovely As a Tree (Stampin' Up!), Other- popsicle stick, hemp, sponge.

Another attempt at masculine but I think that brown ribbon might have spoiled it a bit...and maybe that turquoise too. I do really like the repeated sentiment down the side.

Supplies: Paper-Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Chocolate Chip (all SU!); Stamps - Tree Cluster Sm. (Stampscapes), Fantastic Foilage (SU!), Father Knows Best (Papertrey Ink); Ink - Chocloate Chip (SU!); Other - Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon, 1" circle punch.
