Sleeping with Strawberries with Bookmark

I have been on a totally Strawberry kick the last few days so I thought I would bring you a week of Strawberry Inspiration!! Each day this week I have a strawberry card. You should see all the different styles that I have in store!! This is a wonderful project to do with large images like the big House Mouse Stamps. I started out by stamping the image twice. I colored one in full using my colored pencils and 'gamsol'. On the other image, I only colored in the main part of the image. I created the card with the full image. Then the fun part. I cut the partially colored image, matted it onto a piece of cardstock that was folded in half. I adhered magnets inside the 2 bottom parts of the folded cardstock so that it becomes a bookmark. When mailing it to the recipient the bookmark stays on the card. Upon recieving the card they can use the bookmark! My 'strawberry kick' started with the creating of this card for the Cards Blog challenge last week (which didn't get picked for). Strawberries are one of my very favorite summer time treats and I think they are beautiful images to create with!! Do you love strawberries too??? Thanks for dropping in for a visit today! Make sure you drop back in the rest of the week to see all the other strawberry cards!! Donelda

Bookmark of my Boy

I have been thinking of making a bookmark like this for a while. It all started with the colors. I saw this awesome combo of orange and turquoise on a Nickelodeon commercial. Then, the background began by using some circles as masks and adding some stamping over that. The compass is embossed with copper, the colors are sponged on top of it, and finally it is cut out and adhered on top of the bookmark and picture. Supplies: Stamps-Father Knows Best (Papertrey Ink), Finest Flourishes (Stampin' Up!); Ink - Pumpkin Pie, Really Rust, Tempting Turquoise (Stampin' Up!), Walnut Stain Distress Ink (Ranger); Other - bookmark, tassel, 1 1/4" circle punch, 1" circle punch, copper embossing powder, sponges. I love using my new bookmark - it just makes me smile. Thanks for dropping in for a visit. Donelda

Another Bookmark

Here is a second version of a bookmark that I made using a different color combination. HERE is the first one. This new one uses Always Artichoke and Regal Rose. The image is Forever Flowers wheel from Stampin' Up and the sentiment is from the Green Thumb stamp set from Papertrey Ink.

The holder is sewn with my sewing maching and the butterfly is hand cut from light cardboard and bent slightly to have some dimension when attached to the bookmark.

Thanks for visiting.

Old Color Combo Challenge

This color combination is an old one from Splitcoaststampers (Color Combo Challenge 155 - Basic Black, River Rock, and Whisper White). It is such a classic and elegant color combination!! I LOVE IT!!! I decided to make a bookmark and holder using these colors. I based my general design on one I saw on Godelieve's blog a while ago -- she makes great stuff! The black was folded and then stitched using my sewing machine. Then I made the focal image for the outside. I finally bought a wheel handle from SU! I did it because I LOVE this wheel called Forever Flowers. I'd love the flower stamp that is in the matching set but I won't use the rest of the set so I refuse to buy it. If anyone has the set and would love to get rid of the one flower stamp in it, give me a ring :-) LOL. I colored in the leaves and flowers using a paint brush (one of my favoite coloring options!). It just looks so elegant!! The inside bookmark is made using a piece of River Rock cardstock. I attached a bit of the colored image to the bottom as well. Then, I inked up just a small part of the wheel using my black marker and rolled just that section where I wanted it on the top! I added a sentiment, a swirl (from Delight in Life), and left some room to stamp the recipient's name when I give it away to someone (yeah right, who am I kidding...this will go into my 'for keeps' pile). Well, maybe I'll try to really give it to someone!! Anyone out there want it?? Thanks for visiting! Enjoy your day! Donelda

Bookmarks!

Tonight was all about creating something for my son! Tonight he was reading a book and needed to mark his place. I was astonished to see him use a pretzel (yes, you read that right) as a bookmark!! Now, I know he has some bookmarks, but obvious they are not "cool" enough to use! I asked if he wanted me to make him a couple of bookmarks and he said YES!! Since he is a big Pokemon fan, I decided to go with that! I downloaded a few pictures from the internet and scanned the logo "gotta catch em all" (man, someone was really thinking when they came up with that!). It was a great way to use up some scraps of light cardboard and paper. I used DMC floss for the tassels!
